To the comment saying iu got popular internationally because of jungkook, that's simply not true. Iu has been popular outside Korea for years. Armys, especially the loud american ones just happened to discover her because of jungkook and the collab with suga and can't shut up since, making it seem like that's the reason she's popular. She's a 2nd gen icon, and she's still extremely popular now. A whole queen.

She was not that popular for the international fandom sorry . Everybody knows IU , but it is wrong to say she has a strong popularity for the oldest K-pop fans. Her popularity for the international fandom has a Big evolution since 2017/ 2018, with the newbies K-pop fans who had discovered K-pop because of BTS and the jungkook trend started like that. If you read the oldest bbi-bbi comments, people spammed A LOT things about Jungkook. It was hysterical. I listen K-pop since 2009 and believe me, iu never has that Big impact for the international K-pop communauty.

@@PhanefromBabylone if you were really a kpop fan since 2009, you would already know how popular she was. Since you don't, you're just talking bullshit. She was as popular as top kpop groups. She was everywhere in shows and Asian people love her. We're just not as loud as the western fans. Armys support many artists like heize, suran, youngha, etc but why are they not popular now as they were when they had a collab with bts? It's because they aren't as popular as iu. Iu is just different. I'm not saying the armys didn't add to that, but considering how her music evolves with time because of what a great musician she is, she doesn't need armys to spam her stuffs. SHE WAS, STILL IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE POPULAR.

K-pop has a Bigger impact since 2016, and IU 's popularity in the WHOLE damn earth increased not because if BTS, obviously, but I Said people was more curious about her because of army... IU also lost two of her closest friends who both took their lives, Jonghyun and Sulli, which will always be remembered. Jonghyun even made a song for her called A Gloomy Clock and he evens sings on that song and for Sulli, she wrote a song for her called Peach and even appeared in the drama Hotel de Luna because IU herself ask her to do the role. It’s so sad that she and all of us lost them.

She didn’t care what others said and believed herself. Sometimes, I wanna throw everything away and just wanna do what I really love. This video really gave me motivation 💗

I just watched her drama "My Mister" about 2 years ago. The plot tells the story of a poor girl who lives in poverty with high debt. IU playing the character on that drama looks so real. I can even tell that she's not playing a role, she's trying to tell people "I was living in this property and no body trying to save me. I'm a survivor, my own savior" ❤❤

IU is the definition of paving her own way to success. And she's damn great at her career as a singer and even greater as an actress. She's too amazing ♥️

I want to add that in many interviews IU has said that she doesn't hate herself anymore. This is also expressed in her Palette song, since turning 25,she learned to accept herself. And this is more explored in My sea song.

I'm an Army and I discovered IU thru Hotel del Luna kdrama. One day i saw that Suga collabed with IU and i liked her voice then started to explore her and loved her songs. I also saw Jk is also like IU as a singer. All i wanna say it IU's voice is so beautiful, she deserves everything!

Sometimes I forget how young IU is and was when she started cuz she’s been one of my favourite singers since I was a child.

I want to tell her more than just “you are pretty” for IU is a strong person who hasn't let so much trauma hold her back. She has worked hard all her life, overcome all the odds, and she still ends up thinking about others first and supporting everyone around her and more. She's an inspiration. I relate a lot to her, not in fame, but childhood and more. I was also born 1993, had parents on the poorer side, was with abusive people until I moved in with my grandparents. her story reminds me that i can keep going too. i dont have enough words.

IU is the strongest person I know. She suffered all that and continues to stand tall today. She didn't deserve all the hate. I respect her so much as a person and as a singer. She is the ultimate Queen.

IU story is like a protagonist in some kind of books, over and over again having hardships yet she breaks them all and not forget to give back and share what she can ❤️

IU's parents did a great job of raising her 🥺 At 10:52-11:10, it said, "If she made a mistake as a child, her parents did let her read a book instead of punishing her." Her parents deserve a praise for raising such a beautiful, talented, and sweetheart lady like IU 🥺

I am not even IU fan but she is so talented and I am surprised she didn't give up easily. She is a living proof that if you keep trying and trying by hardwork you will somehow succeed.

Only the bravest, most compassionate soul can go through such a difficult childhood and still have the willpower to change their world and love in such a way that IU does. The reason why she has these skills is because of her tenacity to keep going after so much hardship because that heart is so pure it just wants to find a place to express itself and bring out the best in people. I'm so moved knowing that other people like this exist and have never given up and continuously grow this never-ending motivation to make a difference because her Grandmother showed her how much that kindness can affect everything, down to the core. Her voice is a catalyst for so many, it's a light in the dark to her past suffering, I'm so proud of her.

She's truly an angel 💖 not only her face is absolutely pretty, her soul and her actions are beautiful

she's an amazing person coming from zero and i think due to her hard past, she keeps giving and giving for the people in needs. definitely a role model-worthy kind of person.

I'll never forget IU. The legend she is. I first saw her in dream high and loved her voice. Then the song red shoes had me hooked.

That scene of the drama "thanks for being my grandmother" really hurt me a lot and torn me into pieces, thanks to her grandma that IU can shining lights up the world

Agreed. 'Money doesn't buy happiness', in my opinion, is said only by at least average wealthy people and youngsters who have money to cover their basics needs, because anyone who struggled financially knows that money plays a huge role in finding and keeping that happiness. When you have to pay rent, bills, bring food on the table, provide for your family/children basic human needs, cover medical bills, school supplies etc, the struggle and lack of money can destroy one mentally and even drive people to do the unthinkable just to escape from all the burdens in life. Yes, money alone doesn't guarantee happiness because happines itself depends on multiple things in life, but it sure is way better then a monthly struggle where you have to sleep stomach empty for the day just to afford something else or so that someone else in the family fills theirs.

She is more than "just pretty", actually a lot more than that. Everytime she was knocked down, she rose up stronger than before , and this transformed her into a lioness. Yes , we all need to roar like a lioness and rise up stronger than ever.

Not giving up takes so much strength. It's not easy. And the most common thing in successful people is that they never give up and that's why they are successful. IU is so great.

The fact that iu is still so kind hearted and not spoiled like some other people her age is amazing. She is so strong and deserves to be successful. It feels the most horrible when you are held so high as a child then get dropped even more than those who werent held high.

Honestly kind of happy she didn’t get picked up by one of those bigger entertainment companies. All of us who have been listening to kpop for a while know she most likely would’ve been put in a group. She probably wouldn’t have had as much say in her songs & career and I’ve seen many a neglected idol under those big companies that are always pumping the newest hottest talents. Instead she has this amazing team, who loves her and who she loves. Her persistence though is really amazing I couldn’t imagine facing 20 rejections & pushing forward. Really enjoyed listening to Palette & hearing how she made peace with herself. Pisses me off though that love scandals still are a thing in the kpop industry. Fans need to realize they’re in a parasocial relationship with this idol, you’re not dating them. How can you expect a beautiful 20 yr old not to date? 🙄

She once said, after 20 rejections, she said to herself that she will be singer anyways, so she just continue. I think it's great mentality,knowing there's no place you wanna be but there, and you know nothing else , so you just move yourself towards there no matter what. It's like saying "when you are at the bottom, no where to go except up".

This is my story of knowing IU, when I was still in elementary school, my brother watched her music video "You & I" and my thought was "she sings well" but haven't fell into her yet, then "Dream High" was airing in tv, the first time I heard "Someday" as her audition song she sang in the drama, since then I completely fell for her spell, she sounds like an angel for real

I'm glad she's as successful as she is!! She deserves all the joy

She's truly an inspiration, she never gave up even if it was so hard for her, she still didn't give up her dream.

I’m not a fan of her music, but I respect her talent, and she also seems to be a genuine great person. So good for her, she deserves the success she has.

I love IU because our family had experienced the same thing she did, we were kind of well off but suddenly went bankrupt and my sister and I had to lived with our relatives who sometimes shunned us and we really had nothing and just about last year after our bankruptcy worsened things began to change just then and I heard IU’s story and I saw her and her talent and just fell in love with her with all her humble personality and lovely nature🥰🥰🥰

Not in that way after she has been scammed, to me IU's grandma is already become the most meaningful and valuable person in her life since the first day IU and her brother stayed with her grandma. I totally understand how how it feel , when my grandma passed away I was so blank , empty, and even have a thought of commit suicide cause somehow the only light that shines in your life is nowhere to be find but luckily I tried my other best to find another reason to be alive , I truly appreciated how IU went through all of those not only in childhood but she has to experienced her best friends dead one by one.

I lost my grandma too after she took care of me for years when my mom was working out of town.... The worst part was that the last time I saw her we had a small argument and left without a proper goodbye... I wasn't able to live normally for about a year, even failed in school... Still unable to live properly because ever since that time I find it even harder to socialize... But I'm very grateful for the time spent with her and that she later on appeared in my dream where we had a nice talk and said goodbye properly... I finally could let her go and move on with my life... Now I have my mom and my boyfriend keeping me here no matter how sad and useless I feel so I don't have to worry about doing something to myself anymore

IU is definitely one hell of an icon in the K-pop industry. I've only heard about the Palette song which she released and Strawberry Moon which is pretty great as well. I hope IU continues to ascend. Like many others in the industry, she has struggled a lot, but now she's pretty much well-known not only in SK but overseas as well. Much love, IU ❤️

Actually, I became UAENA because of her story and her personality of being matured and strong to go through all of these. My story is quite similar to her, but only the thing is that me and my family still couldn't overcome the poverty yet no matter how hard we tried. Along those years whenever I felt so down, I encouraged myself by watching IU, by listening to her interviews and her songs; especially her lyrics. She would never know that she saved my life so many times. I really appreciate this girl for being so strong and matured.

Can we appreciate how well this video is edited,though? It made me feel all emotions IU must have been going through and i liked her songs too,this video made me stan her and become her fan. Thank you so muc for providing such facts and her emotional life story.

IU is one of the most criticized and trolled Korean female icon who hasn't lost to suicide. Other people go through same criticism and commit suicide or become alcoholics but IU proves to be the strongest. My advice to koreans, "your trolling of stars is taking too many young and beautiful lives, please learn to stop and appreciate them"

please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think she's not lost to it is because she has pretty good support system. she have her grandma, family and her team whom must be like a family because of how long the team stick together with her. not to mention the amount of hate she got is almost kind of the same as the amount of love she got. so she's a special case. while many others who lost to it barely had any support system. because even after their death their own family or close relative is usually still after their fortune which then show you how they got no support system at all which make them lost to suicide because it is beyond difficult and tbh almost impossible to survive when you had nothing to support you. but that doesn't mean iu is not strong because she is. i just don't think it's fair to say that her case is the same as the others who lost to suicide

Can someone explain to me why this is happening? I don't get this very much, in the west they shower celebs with requests for autographs and fan letters. Sure, that also gets very tiring to be recognised and invaded everywhere, but still- what on earth is it with the trolling?

I am an older kpop fan and also an older ARMY. We should all love both IU and BTS. Spread love not hate.

This video is so inspiring. That no matter what the circumstances no one can stop you from success, and for that you should work very hard with full determination and dedication. IU had a tough life, and there is a lot to learn from her, even though facing so many hardships, she remained strong, and moved forward.

IU is an amazing person inside and out... She is incredibly talented but still down to earth and super generous. far too many idols believe that they are god's gift but IU is the opposite.
