The Indian Wolf a.k.a Indian Grey Wolf (Canis lupus pallipes)

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Short film on the The Indian Wolf a.k.a Indian Grey Wolf (Canis lupus pallipes) with facts and details about the animal.
Indian grey wolf in endangered in India.
The Indian wolf is perhaps currently the last remaining true grassland predator of India. After driving the cheetah into extinction in India , we are now on the way to killing the Indian wolf as well. There are less than 3000 in the wild but that number is from the year 2004 ! I don't think it would have risen in the last 20 years considering the current assault on wild habitats in India.
In the moments we spend watching them we could feel their social bonding and how playful they were. It is a shame that we kill these beauties in the name of development so that we sit and watch TV.

    Please say no to damaging environmental projects in dry savannah, scrub and grassland type habitat. Please remember that these habitats are far more threatened in India than closed canopy forests. The planned Pune airport near Saswad will seriously threaten one of the few surviving wolf populations in the district. It should be opposed tooth and nail.

    Sadly their habitat is being destroyed every year. Even in the place where we shot this video their grasslands are "harvested" by the government itself for cattle ! Without grass cover their prey suffers and they also suffer :(

    I don't think this issue is known among the educated city dwellers. I came to know about them a few days back when I was researching on wolves and was surprised to learn that something like these exist in the drylands of India. As an unaware person they can be mistaken for coyotes and killed.

    How can we as team come together and reach out to create an impact of conservation.? What are the steps required to persuade the Indian governments to look into this issue and work towards this problem? Which are the organisations across the country who work for this cause?

  • @KNFngo

    @KNFngo

    In our opinion we need some fundamental changes in the way we live on this planet. Endless growth on a finite planet is never sustainable. All organisations can do nothing as long we exponentially continue to consume. We are 140 crores and increasing and our consumption like western societies is only now starting. We have literally removed wildlife from being part of life to so called wildlife reserves which by the way humans continue to exploit. Even in these grasslands where we filmed the wolf , grass is cut commercially ! For wolves which rely on grass cover for stealth what does it mean ? Quite frankly conservation talk has been going on for years and nothing really changes on the ground.
