You have to understand why Caste system began at the first place. Caste system was very different from what it is perceived. J. K. Rowling created 4 groups in her imaginary world of Hogwarts, where children were sorted according to their capabilities. She had clear understanding about who will represent what. The Caste System is also the same. The 4 castes are nothing but four types of people existing in this world: 1. Wise, studios, learners. 2. Brave, resourceful warriors. 3. Clever, self centered materialists. 4. Hard working, low profile simpletons. These four types of people, in Hinduism, are named Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras. The discrimination was rather I-would-rather-stick-to-my-people kind of discrimination. The studious ones flocked with the studious ones, the brave ones flocked with brave ones, the materialists flocked with other materialists, and the simpletons flocked with simpletons. It was rather a like-minded people stay together kind of separatism, which happens even today. Everyone considers themselves superior to others. Even the simpletons have pride of their simplicity. So there was no up or down in this matter. This up and down positioning however started because of some selfish people in power. Brahmins, who were respected by all for their knowledge, found it really hard to feel proud of a son who would choose materialism, or living a life of a simpleton, giving up learning and choosing professions like barber or janitor. Obviously, they wanted to make sure their family “name” or whatever respect they have earned doesn’t go down in the gutter, and hence they could have asked the King to make it mandatory to have their children inherit their father’s profession. It can be the King too, who must have wanted his son be the next king. Hence, it became birth related. The final rituals performed by the son determines what education he has taken from his father, maybe this also could have been the reason. And soon, that one act of selfishness destroyed the course of history. An interesting perspective was that in old times there were no job-search websites, nor any universities, degrees, career-counselling. At that time the only mode of employment was self-employment. And the only way to achieve that was by learning the family profession. Hence perhaps a woodcutter’s son would go on to be a woodcutter, a potter’s son a potter, a weaver’s son a weaver, an actor’s son an actor, and so on. Perhaps the caste system was more of a professional identity, and the family which had more generations of a specific profession, were respected in the highest order. This happens even today. No matter how well educated professionals we find, we still trust those whose at least 5 generations have been working the same job.

I don't understand why people are getting pissed off by the term "randomly selected". They obviously don't mean it literally. It means that the odds of someone being *born* into a caste were random, and *not in their control*.

Even after 60 years of constitutional and legal protection and support, there is still social discrimination against Dalits in many parts of our country... Dalits have faced a unique discrimination in our society that is fundamentally different from the problems of minority groups in general. The only parallel to the practice of untouchability was apartheid. " - Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014

Birth Based Caste is a superstitious system, however Varna was the original system, in Varna there was no upper or lower, people chose the work of which they are qualified for and according to Bhagavad Gita, anyone can be a Brahman (Teacher), Shatriya (Warrior), Vaishya (Trader), Shudra (Labor) based on knowledge and skills: 🔹In Bhagavad Gita 4:13, Krishna says that he created different Varnas (Profession) on the basis of one's Karma (Activity) and Guna (Quality). 🔹Bhagavad Gita 5:18 "The truly learned, with the eyes of divine knowledge, see with equal vision a Brahmin, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and a dog-eater" 🔹Bhagavad Gita 9:29 "I am equally disposed to all living entities: there is neither friend nor foe to Me: but those who with living sentiments render divotional service unto Me, such persons are in Me and I am in them." 🔹Bhagavad Gita 18:41 "The duties of the Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras are distributed in accordance with their guṇas (quality) and not by birth. Caste is a Spanish and Portuguese word 'casta' which stands for 'Breed' or 'lineage'. During earlier times Caste use to be Varna (Profession) and based on merit and not by birth, I can give you instances from the ancient times, where a so-called modern day "lower caste" moved to "upper caste", e.g. Guru Valmiki, Kabir Das was from a shudra family but became a brahmin based on merit, etc and btw Ravana was himself a Brahmin knowledgeable person from Northern India but because of his notorious activities he got punished by Rama (believed to be an OBC if we abide by caste categorization). Lastly, you have to understand the British motive behind imposing caste: The Caucasians (Europeans) created Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda, Africa, to divide and control the native population, and for this reason, the Rwanda Genocide occurred. The same attempts and inequalities Europeans also tried to create amongst Indians by separating Northern India and Southern India into "Aryans" VS "Dravidians" and further dividing Hinduism into 3,000 castes and 25,000 sub-castes. And also read about Herbert Hope Risley who created casteism, racism in Indian society by one's facial features and skin color, and Bishop Robert Caldwell who propagated the "Aryan Invasion" in Southern India to convert "Dravidians" into Christianity.

+Pradeep Srivastava : Presently , real problem in India is not of finding a Loved one with Beautiful eyes , but instead to find a good job to earn a descent living , and later comes marriage and a "Happy Family" .Getting a job itself is determined by the caste your parents belonged to . India has a bigger problem than caste system and that is reservation system . This reservation system has created a disaster for young job seekers.

I know much better than you do . And my opinions are not alone based on parrot feeding of western school education system or a comedy youtube video. Any way now a days its a cool thing and in fashion to curse caste system . I don't know whether there is any factual evidence to support this ancient made up story on caste system made by these West propogandists. You say that as called "Upper caste" fucked as called "Lower caste" since ages , so its revenge time and to fuck the other way . This is your justification for reservation system . Nice logic.

@studd dude do a Google about property redistribution done by Indian government post independence, higher cases were literally ripped of their lawful/unlawful land n redistributed to SC/ST . Guess what happened 4 decades later , again most SC/ST are landless. Unless we all join in to educate the rural India , no reservations or policy will work. m a rajpoot and I do support caste based reservations but only for those who hail from really backward areas and are poor not some I phone holding, you tube using lad.

"studd k" Who says that most of the general category people have more properties? More than half of the land which generals owned were given by the government to the backward castes. Talk of the present situation! The so called "backward castes" have more money & properties than the general category people. Their children are studying in better & more expensive schools in comparison to general category people. Are general category people less patriotic as compared to SC/ST people? Are general category soldiers not sacrificing their lives for the security of Indians within or outside India? Are the General Category People who are in Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, CRPF, BSF, ITBP & SSB not dying for the security & pride of the Indian citizens?

I was about to say that in another post, but didn't want to go there. No Akshay is not wrong. That's how you conquer a people. Let's say another country conquered another. Both countries have ideas gifted and talented or genius. But the country that conquered the other now says their idea of gifted in talented is the way to go and no matter how much those of the conquered country how their giftedness or talent it never measures up. You could have Einstein or Telsa in the Gifted and Talented, but they are from the conquered country. So the ones who conquered it can say well no you are not really gifted/talented and promote someone from their group even though the person may not even be gifted or talented.

Do they really think people were randomly selected to become scholars? lol They wanted to convey why the caste system is a bad practice, so that's what they decided to focus on more. It doesn't really matter how it came about. That's the point of the video.

There was nothing 'systemic' about the caste 'system'. In fact there is no real evidence of any such 'system' in India apart from the records kept by Christian Missionaries. I am not denying existence of caste in India, but the 'system' was created by the Christians through their christian framework and their experience of the world.

+Trisha Joshi sorry trisha, there are a lot of proofs of the caste system in the vedas. though in vedic age it was not bad, it actually helped in bringing a structure to the society. the caste were not assigned by birth but by abilities. so any teacher would be brahmin even if their father was a shudra. with time, the people in this system became corrupted - and now we need a new system.. or maybe no system will be better..

Like I said before, I am not denying the existence of caste in the history, I am questioning it being a 'suppressing system'. It did not just magically become 'corrupt' it was perceived or experienced by the colonizers as a 'corrupt' and an 'immoral system' due to their pre-existing Christian framework.

+Murtuza Sabuwala Caste System is not an Indian creation. Words like Caste System, Indo-European, Aryan-Dravidian are products of Western Indology. Jaati has been loosely translated as Caste, which is wrong. The term 'jaati' is generic. For example, there are "jaati of trees", "jaati of soldiers", "jaati of employees", "jaati of students", "jaati of specific individuals". I am a Rajput and there are a lot of Rajput guys like me out there, so we are a "jaati of specific individuals". Caste System is a British invention. It's a product of Western Indology. Don't fall for it.

I don't understand why people feel the need to feel like they're superior to other people. You're not better than anyone else just because of the way you were born. People need to stop discriminating against each other for stupid reasons. If your family disowns you because you love someone who is different from you, then the "love" they have for you is conditional. And that's sad. You're better off choosing yourself and making your own decisions. Lol at "badminton" on the list of requirements!🤣 Also, I love Indian guys' eyebrows! The guy in the couple was cute!

Reason why most love stories end tragically in India. Because its hard to chose between your aging parents (remeber they save little and invest almost every penny in their son/daughter education) , you were supposed to be their stick in old age, and on other side you have a girl whom you love so much. its the most harrowing decision you have to make. Also many of my friends never approached a girl for this very reason, if she was of another caste, they were god damn attracted towards her, but knowing if they finally planned to settle down with her they wont be able to, thus averting a major emotional crisis in future.

I think your ancestors were from a very low caste so in order not to be oppressed anymore they converted to Christianity, which makes sense, a lot of them did that's why, I'm from a low caste too but from a Sikh background

The struggle is for real. I have even met teachers who are biased to some students just because of their caste.

DNA Study proved that Indians stopped Inter caste Marriages 1575 - 2000 years ago... But So called " Upper Caste " Use sh*t logic.. According to them caste system is given by Britishers.. For Them 1)Chinese scholar Hieun Tsang, who visited India in 630 AD , writes that, “Brahminism dominated the country, caste ruled the social structure and the persons following unclean occupations like butchers, scavengers had to live outside the city”. 2) Alberuni who visited india in 1000s wrote They ( Brahmin) don’t ‘allow the Veda to be committed to writing’ because it must be ‘recited according to certain modulations’. They teach it to the Kshatriyas, but the Vaishyas, Shudras and the outcastes ‘are not allowed to hear it, much less to pronounce and recite it. If such a thing can be proved against one of them, the Brahmins drag him before the magistrate, and he is punished by having his tongue cut ’. 3) The "breast tax" (or Mulakkaram in Malayalam) was a head tax imposed on the Nadars, Ezhavars and other lower caste communities by the Kingdom of Tranvancore (in present-day Kerala state of India). According to local beliefs the breast tax was imposed on lower class women if they covered their breasts. ( How can brahmins and Kshatriya fell so much) U can see income inequalities in various caste Groups.. Brahmins are richest caste.. While Dalits are poor Jai Bhim Vandemataram

I mean i understand someone born rich so that is different but we still equal.... Btw omg that was filmed in SJSU!!!!!!!!!

i think what they mean by the random assigning of caste is the way its assigned to you at birth. it really is random if you think about the nature of it: you're either born into a right caste, or not- thats the "randomness" to it.

I like the narrative rhyming. Really makes the story interesting. Indeed stop the caste system. God made us one just in different races, colours, regions etc. Before Him we are all one. We destroyed our unity with all those divisions.

I’m Indian from lower cast I know this still happens in India . There are so many cases of people from upper cast killing boy or girl from lower cast if they come to know that they are having relationships with your girl or boy . They will burn houses of people from lower cast and they throw them out of their villages .
