One of the new social and cultural challenges of the Iranian society is the way they face and behave with nature and the environment, which in itself has created new issues. The destruction of the environment, the increase of pollutants and the disturbance of plant and animal species, excessive urbanization and the limitation of green spaces and forests are part of the basic environmental concerns in today's society.
The tendency to keep pets has subsequently taken a new form. What was observed in the traditional society not far away in small and even big cities; Targeted maintenance based on meeting the needs of the household; It was made from animals such as chickens and roosters and some quadrupeds. A trend that can be seen even now in small rural communities as well as in the outskirts and traditional neighborhoods of cities.
With the increasing problems of the Iranian society and the generational and family distance and the fading of traditional-native cultures such as continuous family relations, the gathering of relatives on occasions such as Yalda Night, Eid al-Adha, Nowruz, etc., and on the other hand, the emergence of countless concerns of citizenship. A kind of isolation and individualism has been formed in the society, which provides the basis for the emergence of new needs and demand for emotional alternatives.
What has not been welcomed in the native culture of Iran in the past is the keeping of animals, only as a hobby and fun, and people with such behavioral tendencies were nicknamed with titles such as wild cat, wild pigeon, etc.
With the change and trend of communication from the real form to the virtual space and the dependence of people on television networks (mainly overseas) and virtual communication networks, a new culture of encountering animals has been formed in Iranian society. One of these emerging behaviors is to fill emotional and communication voids through keeping pets (mostly dogs and cats). A behavior that can be seen with little attention to the roads and streets and the lives of some people.
One of the noteworthy cases is related to the buying and selling of dogs, which is unofficially dedicated to the south side of Azadegan highway (in front of the ornamental bird market), which is part of the green space on the side of the highway.
The buying and selling of dogs (domestic, guard, fighting, etc.) is widely done in this place, and since this is against the regulations, there have been several disciplinary actions in this regard in the past years. Therefore, due to the demand and the lack of replacement of other places and the lack of legal organization of this issue, this business has started again in this place.
The following can be mentioned from the false and side jobs of the bird buying and selling center in Tehran;
- Sale of unusual birds (grog, owl, pheasant and other unauthorized birds and poultry); Due to the lack of official permission to sell such animals, their health and hygiene (especially in the case of chickens and roosters) cannot be recognized and confirmed.
Selling dogs, cats, squirrels and rabbits; Selling dogs without a specific breed instead of purebred dogs and placing herd and large puppies instead of miniature and domestic dogs, betting and fighting dogs, selling stolen animals and many other issues cause damage and loss. Citizens and deceiving clients with little information, and the occurrence of unethical behavior becomes ethical.
