I always knew that Banner was the monster, and the hulk was the person trying to keep Banner under control during his episode of fury, like the pin of a grenade.

This is a great read. Bruce DID NOT try to run. Hulk made him realize he made a mistake. That Hulk was always there to save Banner and that Banner blamed Hulk for every mistake Banner made. Bruce went to deactivate the gamma bomb but Hulk grabbed him and told him he's not saving Banner any more. Hulk watched Bruce die. And Amanda von Doom let the hulkling run a train.

They do mention, rather off hand, that Banner is doing drugs and electrocuting himself to avoid sleeping, and he also had a huge brain tumor. That all might have had something to do with him going off the rocker.

I understand that the author tried to explain it that Hulk was his vent for anger and that's why he went crazy. But then it is also weird in the sense that Banner was by no means insane prior to the gamma radiation. Would of made more sense if they just explained it as a addiction to the Hulk.

Just a couple corrections. This story picks up after the "Fear Itself" story after Hulk was sent flying by Thor.In the epilogue of that story Banner wakes up on a beach and asks the Hulk what he did as the Hulk walks away. And the Hog Men were not sent by Banner. They tracked him down on their own to attempt to gain their "father's" approval (Banner)

I thought he was going to say that Banner and his hulk persona were always 2 separate, ever since Banner made him when he was a child. And when the gamma bomb went off, the hulk persona got the hulk powers, and Banner didn't. So when Doom split them in two, Banner got the hulk powers, but the insane hulk persona stayed human. That makes much more sense.

Hey buddy Thank you for what you do. I enjoy your content immensely. On the topic of the Hulk playlist: I would love to see the old run that included Joe Fixit and the merging of the Hulks. There were, if I'm not mistaken, two Hulks and a Banner running around. There was a Wolverine fight. I never got a chance to read it, but I saw a couple of issues here and there, and I remember I found it it very compelling. Thanks man

*@comics explained*, you forgot to mention how at the end of this story, the Incredible Hulk looks at his reflection in the water and see's Bruce Banner screaming hitting the reflection like he is behind a glass wall hinting at the fact that Bruce never left he was never killed. since his part of the brain was seperated and put in a clone body and that ver. of Bruce Banner died, it hints that since that part of his brain was destroyed it simply regenerated in the hulks brain and effectively brought back Bruce into the Hulk's Mind

I don't like the brain swap concept. They are not separate beings. Both should deteriorate if separated, and be clearly lesser than their summation. This is analogous to saying someone with Dissociative Identity Disorder placing one of their personalities into another body or saying that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde can become separate beings. Their the same, and this should be paramount to death for the individual.

If you want to get philosophical, the two beings who are left after splitting their brain up should actually be two different beings (depending on your view of what is sufficient to maintain personal identity). I kind of agree that the two beings would not be equal in summation to Hulk/Banner because they aren't anymore. If Hulk/Banner were one being, then two later beings cannot be identical to a single being. Personal Identity is one of my favourite topics in metaphysics. I love your statement about it being the death for the individual because that is exactly what philosophers like Parfit say (from my limited understanding). Hulk/Banner is not identical to the Hulk and Banner but he still survives, so long as you can accept survival as the continual existence of what matters to the individual rather than the maintenance of persona identity. I would have found it interesting had they explored some more of the idea that Hulk and Banner were no longer the same as when they were constituent personalities of the same whole but I really liked that they explored it all!

  • @SoulOfTorment

The ending would have been fantastic if the Hulk started to dream that he was Banner, segue into a interesting return. Neurologically they are the same being, Hulk is just the physical manifestation of Banners emotional state. The duality is extremely intriguing and perhaps my neurological studies bias my view. Doom's final explanation of why Banner went mad was my favorite part. I just get uncomfortable when I see Hulk getting brain surgery from Doctor Doom, whom then regrows one brain and one body. A bit forced yea? I feel a M. Night Shyamalan twist coming...

It wasnt fully explained but the hulk theorized when the bomb went off it melded them back together in a way. But not in a traditional sense. It flipped the script on the two. Hulk was always watching when Banner was out and when Banner was away he essentially faded out and didnt know what the Hulk had done while in Hulk form. After melding back together Hulk was unable to see what was happening when Banner came out but Banner was aware when Hulk was out. This led to a series of adventure where the Hulk would wake up in random dangerous places and would have to piece together what was going on and why he was out again (because Banner only goes Hulk while in trouble). He woke up in a variety of places including a rain forest, space, and Mexico if i remember correctly
