As one artisan to another I say very well done sir. For me art is the balance of form and function and that sheath is certainly that. A thing of beauty to behold and to use. Excellent!!

That click when sheathing the blade is so satisfying. One of these days I'll get to that level of quality in my builds...

Thank you. Taking the time to really work the leather around the knife handle helps. Then the wax dipping really helps solidify and hold the shape. You can get somewhat similar results with dye, and neetsfoot oil

Beautiful job! I’m lucky enough to have a Buck Custom shop / David Yellowhorse 196 in elk stag with a fileworked spine. Great profile and very useful. It comes with a “just OK” belt sheath though. I’d love to have something like this quality. Very cool tools you have on the drill press to work the leather, you have a real talent! Thanks for sharing. 🙏

@@wyomingwright Thanks! I was super lucky to get one. I believe Buck made 125 of them. (Sorry, I’m getting my Bucks mixed up, the custom work on this one is by Wilde Bill Cody, and 250 made). The first Alpha Hunters were in Bucks standard 420HC, then they started making them in the better ATS-34, equivalent to 154CM. Anyway, I got the full sized rosewood Alpha Hunter with gut hook, which is a great knife, and the large and small folding versions, but found this custom 196 skinner before I completed the set. I'm a big fan of crossdraw / scout carry, as it's faster to access and doesn't get in the way when you sit. I hope to be in touch if you have the time to do custom work. 👍 P.S. Did you make the brass & steel embosser that you show at 5:51? Or order it from somewhere with your logo? Very cool. I honestly never thought about using anything but an arbor press for something like that, but the drill press head works great.

I had it made for me. I would like to have an arbor press or even a nice clicker press, but until the, the drill press works okay.

@@wyomingwright. I have a cheap harbor freight arbor press, works ok, never heard of a “clicker press,” I’ll have to look into that. No reason the drill press wouldn’t work fine, it’s not like you’re driving steel rivets or something…!

Where did you find the unique brass lighter you use to burn the ends of the thread? Thx

It is made by Maratac. I got mine on Amazon a few years ago. I love it. I don’t think Amazon sells them anymore but I believe you can get them from CountyComm.
