Haley, I'm 72 years old and you are the first person that has made the subject of history not only interesting but also enjoyable. You have done a fine job of exploring the impossible railroads challenging past. I hope you received an A+ on your project. You may have a future in this line of work!!
Better reporting than on the mainstream media, Good job!
This is 1000x better than anything I did in 4th or even 7th grade...thanks so much for posting

😺 Very good
Haley, Your presentation is also commendable in that you knew exactly where you were going as you developed your narration, and did not pepper it with Uh's and Ah's (which is most distracting.) Good work !
Congratulations young lady, that is one of the better reports I've seen, better than must adults!!
Nice job young lady, we'll thought out, excellent presentation and full of fun facts...you'll go far, keep up the good work.
First-rate job, Haley! Excellent reporting.
Haley, I am so glad that I stumbled across your video. It’s absolutely difficult for me to believe that this was created and produced by a fourth grade student. But, I’ll overcome my disbelief and just say congratulations in such a job well done! I look back on the projects that I recall working on in the fourth grade. I believe that most involved construction paper, elbow macaroni, glue* and glitter. This video was done with high production values; excellent presentation; superbly researched scripting and it’s enjoyably “information dense”. You have a brilliant future ahead as a presenter or writer or researcher in whatever medium you should select. Again thank you Haley! I’ve subscribed and I look forward to perusing more of your work. Best of luck in your future endeavors. (* We had to use glue because a kid named Buddy McCorkle ate all of the paste)
I did not know that history surrounding SD. Thank you. Outstanding job!!

So Glad you liked it, thank you for the comment!
I was stationed in SD in the early 90's. Heard about other historic parts of the area but never heard about this. Now I have another great reason to return for a visit! Maybe Haley can be our tour guide. 😉
I wouldn't want to play the game -- Are You Smarter than a Fourth Grader!
Congratulations, Haley, on your ability to use the Subjunctive Mode of the verb properly ! You got it exactly right when you said, "Can you imagine if San Diego were are large as..." Most Americans today are ignorant of of the mechanics of their native language and would use the Indicative Mode of the verb, saying "If San Diego was as large as..." which is just plain old wrong ! Good job, Haley. Keep up the good work. Speaking and writing correctly is the mark of an educated person... which you want to be ! (By the way, I was a railroader for 46 years, which led me to your video.)
nice info Haley,,didnt know this about San Diego..great job.learned alot.
Thank you for your presentation. I was born and raised in San Diego and didn't know about the railroad museum in Campo
Miss Haley, you’re gonna go far it was a pleasure and an honor to get to know you take care love Richard
Fantastic video Haley!!! Wish all kids would study and do history projects like you, Well done!!
Greetings from Michigan, Haley! I 💘 LOVE your presentation about a railroad I'd never heard of. Very informative, well thought out, and a stunning presentation, worthy of notice from TV stations in your area. They would be hard pressed to do a story as polished as you did... 👏 BRAVO...your future looks 🌞 bright. ✌😁
Wonderful job young lady.

Thank you for your kind words!
I'm a railroad buff, and your daughter in forth grade is more eloquent at speaking of them than myself. LOL Look forward to discovering your RV adventures. Thank you for sharing. C-Ya!,,,,Peace!
Excellent presentation!
Nice job indeed, young student of history. Nice to see young people enjoying learning. Thanks!
Thank you Haley! Great job!
Fantastic job Haley, very informative and you made it interesting as well. Keep up the great work.
Haley, that's awesome! Very informative. Keep up the good work.
4th grade teachers in my area could not have done a presentation of that quality.
Awesome video. Perfectly put together. I enjoyed watching it. Just got back from the tracks last night. Great job
An absolutely outstanding job!! Very informative. Please do not pay attention to those 13 individuals who for whatever reason did not enjoy your video. Keep up the great work.
Wow great train vid. All info with no weird music...thank you.
Wonderful history!
I've arrived at this video a year and a half late. May I say: "It's so superb, it was worth the wait." Driving back and forth from southern California to Yuma, AZ on Interstate 8 (to visit relatives) causes me to be overly familiar with this extremely rugged terrain, though I haven't been on the train. Haley's journalistic piece makes me certain to stop in Campo on a future drive. Feedback: The information presented by our hostess expertly blends with the video. That means: Haley wrote a darn good script. She makes good use of the visual displays at the museum and the internet. Having her camera on a tripod and Haley speaking into a handheld mike adds to the professional touch. And makes her look professional, like she's taking the assignment seriously and is determined not to bore or disappoint her audience (or teacher!). Now, to all who have come here, I enthusiastically recommend the exciting motion picture "Beggars of Life." It stars Wallace Beery and Louise Brooks, who indeed filmed on these very tracks under the direction of the acclaimed filmmaker William Wellman. Don't let the 1928 production date deter you. "Beggars of Life" is compelling, raw, real-to-life, exciting and accurate for the times. Within all that is a believable love story to boot. And oh that train! The restored BluRay and DVD edition from 2016 has informative bonus material that includes historical facts about the line, plus of course "behind-the-scenes" tales. Note to Haley's parents: After you pre-screen it for suitability, and then watch it with your daughter, I imagine she could work up quite an original assignment for either art, English, drama, geology or history class.
A very nice job, Haley. You got most of your information correct and did a very good job on the narration. However, the railroad was not donated to San Diego. SANDAG had to buy it from Southern Pacific in order to use the western part for the San Diego Trolley. Also, the grade through the Carrizo Gorge is not that steep. The steepest part of the railroad is just east of the top of the pass, between Jacumba and High Pass. If you want more information, I suggest that you find a PBS video that was produced by Richard and Marianne Gerdes in about 2000 or 2001 for KPBS San Diego. It had the same name as your report.
GREAT JOB. Excellent info . You did this like a pro.
Fantastic !! Informative and pleasurable to watch.
FOURTH GRADE? This is an IMPRESSIVE little video, and reasonably accurate. Excellent job!

Great report! What a talented young lady!
Haley, so hope you and your classmates got A+ Great work!!!
Excellent job. Very satisfying that future historian will be there to tell the truth. I was only at San Diego once but now I wish I knew about this story. Loved that town.
This was very interesting - and well done. Compliments!
A Railfan in the making? Excellent job; complete, concise & interesting. I think KZread Railfan posters should be quaking in their boots right about now...
Excellent report!
Very nice video and good job of telling the story about this railroad. I recently researched for myself about the Arizona & California Railway. I had heard a little bit about it years ago when I first started railroading. Just thinking about all the hard manual labor that it took for those workers to do all that is amazing. Thank you for sharing your videos. A - 1 Fine Job.

Great job, Haley! A+
FANTASTIC video!!!!
You may have gotten some forgotten history as well, Lionel released the O scale model of Fairbanks Morse TrainMaster diesel locomotive in Virginian and some others , but I have never seen the model painted in the SD&A scheme - which is most likely very important due to the front end Smile paint scheme captured that you show at 2:14 on the bridge. Great catch . That is a very known design that shows up on most Southern Pacif freight engines of the day. I didn't realize it was not SP's design . . . I take it SP absorbed the SD&A .
Outstanding Job !!

Excellent job young lady.

AT LEAST ITS STILL THERE
You’ll be doing that on TV one day soon if that’s what you want to do!
Good job. Hope to see you on local news soon. As far as this railroad it's a lost cause it would cost at least a billion dollars to get it into shape in 2023. So, nobody in their right mind would put out this much money for this deadline. It's hard now to keep everyday track in shape across the USA now.
A solid A+!
nice job
good job
That is great. My house is three doors down from what has been rated as the best 1-4 school in Portland and none of them would be able to do that.
What a Great Report!!!! You get a AAA+++++ Thanks!!

Impressive!!! Might be a news caster hiding inside you!
Well done. :)
This young woman has a bright future.
F.Y.I. See: "Eastbound Cab Ride Through Carrizo Gorge HD" - kzread.info/dash/bejne/fmpq0siCZcnbobw.html "Watch in High Definition! The Carrizo Gorge Railway is a short line freight operator that ran on the old San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway between Plaster City (west of El Centro in the Imperial Valley) and the US border at Tijuana. ... This video is of a cab ride one on of the recent Maintenance of Way trips from Jacumba, through the famed Carrizo Gorge and across the Goat Canyon trestle, before continuing on east to Plaster City." BEAUTIFUL WOMAN.
And the port of tillamook bay was called punk, nasty, and rotten and it progressed untill 2005
I thought this was Green Screen at first lol
Upon my second (enthusiastic) viewing of Haley's report I discovered an error. (Horrors!) Our intelligent, engaging lady-with-the-answers says the Goat Trestle is 85 feet high. "Hmm." Seeing the photos she provides I became skeptical. A check on the internet confirms my suspicion. The stated height is 186 feet. With some technical know-how, the mistake can be corrected, by dubbing in the correct statistic. Among the calamities encountered in the railroad's construction a hundred years ago that Haley mentions is the Influenza Epidemic. While the 2017 - 18 flu season's accumulating death totals are just a fraction of what befell our country back then, it is interesting that a hundred years later this ailment is quite prominent in national news.
An AAAAAA+++++++ Their are 3 or 4 Metra cars stuck out in the desert...
Man, i was nursing a semi just watching that girl )
Yea ok but los Angeles haves two major global important cargo Ports with many railroads that the entire nation depends! Just like china!so therefore los Angeles have more and more important transportation! So don't put los Angeles in a low rate here!
