From 2:40 I am awash in tears and goosebumps with the truth of it, every single time I watch~ Ted truly did strive with the last ounce of everything he had, to the very end, to accomplish his quest. What a tribute! ~AGAiN, *****!

I hope you're doing better and I'm sure Brian Stokes Mitchel would love to hear how his version of this song inspired you. I feel really down sometimes and music has the ability to transform me as well. To feel the sublime"ness" of the beauty of it. I'm constantly awed by how moving music and how transformative it is.

BRIAN STOKES MITCHELL! BSM has an incredibly beautiful and powerful moving voice. He is a well-known leading man on Broadway and has performed in many great Broadway performances. It was ENTIRELY APPROPRIATE that this song was sung for Sen. Ted Kennedy. The senator fought his heart out for many great causes-many of which seemed impossible. The senator had great courage and I admired him and still do. May God bless Ted Kennedy!

BRIAN STOKES MITCHELL! This song by the great baritone singer BSM was totally appropriate for Senator Edward Kennedy. Kennedy fought for decades for causes that matter to Americans. As to Brian Stokes Mitchell, his voice is beautiful, powerful, and beyond compare. He is a leading man and star on Broadway. Personally, he is my favorite singer. May God Bless Senator Kennedy!!

I saw two of those performances. I think it was at the Beck Theater. I had to see it twice because at the first one, a couple of guys seated near me were sobbing almost every time he sung this. Fantastic performance.

Wasn't that fantastic! Here I am, many yrs later & it remains the best performance of 'The Impossible Dream that I ever heard! But I'm replying to @Kelly Maloney because I find your partial sentence..."Washington needs his leadership now more than ever" has me curious what YOU may think of it now, meaning Washington DC's political scene.!? IMO, we could ALSO use perhaps the last decent & honorable GOP Senator John McCain, and others.... but now, getting Congress to level-the-playing-field, of some basic aspects of American life these days, does sometimes feel like an 'Impossible Dream'

God will judge him as he sees fit that's not our job to say whether he's in heaven or hell. Teddy made a lot of mistakes in his life. But he also did alot of good for alot of people. He stood up for the disabled, minorities, women, homosexuals, childred, the sick and the poor. He gave voice to those that didnt have a voice. Most importantly he served the people. If every government official served the people instead of themselves imagine the world we would be living in.

Don Quixote was a buffoon and the object of satire of Cervantes' original story. You're right about that. Luckily, this song has nothing to do with Cervantes' original story. It comes from a play that turns the story upside-down and celebrates Don Quixote's delusions. His romantic ideals inspire people to better, more generous, more virtuous, more honest and upstanding and heroic lives. Cervantes and his intentions have nothing to do with this.

Oh I disagree totally. He has such a big voice, the accompanist filled that room up with sound, with one lone instrument laying an exquisite foundation for Mitchell's performance. The pianist was excellent.

  • @MisterNifty

This is great and all, but did Senator Kennedy ever read Cervantes' "Don Quijote de la Mancha?" The main idea of both books was to show his disgust towards romantic stories. They weren't about one achieving greatness, but of one being so impractical to the extent that they are the exact opposite as a detriment. Does anyone else see the paradox here? The character of Don Quijote was written in as a buffoon. The fact Senator Kennedy didn't know this shows how poorly he was educated.

Huh? The greiving family is also ignorant of Cervantes's intentions regarding creating Don Quijote's protagonist character as a buffoon? The story start off with a book burning because Don Quijote had lost his mind reading romance novels! Hello? Isn't there someone from Princeton who can elaborate on this? And, I'm sorry, Don Quijote would have jumped into water to save a drowning damsel in distress. I think they should have played the song sand by the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz.

This is a bit cheesy, yet forgiveable as it was a funeral for a man who did, in the end, display a certain amount of courage to stand alone for the truth. I don't think this singer is the greatest I've ever heard, but fittingly cheesy for the occasion. And I don't think Ted Kennedy loved chaste and from afar. Oh god, has it really been 3 years though? I had forgotten it was that long ago he died.
