I agree, the song suits his voice perfectly. Also, he was into those "epic" sounding songs in the 70s, songs like The Impossible Dream, Tomorrow Never Comes, American Trilogy, Bridge Over Troubled Water, etc. This one was right up his alley.

I came across this new Aretha Franklin movie "Respect", I saw the movies about Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson and heard almost all of their songs. And I know for sure that there is not and will not be and never was such a singer as Elvis Presley with such an influence, charismatic presence, charm and an angelic voice engraved in the soul.

Definitely the best version, also American Trilogy from the June 10th afternoon was the best version next to Aloha version

The MSG version of this song s so Incredible. He brings down the house. I knew one guy growing up who was at one of MSG concert. You said your father was there also Dani. I used to get mad at my parents cause they didn't go, 😂. I was a kid, gimme a break👍. Unbelievable to see him in those concerts. This sounds like a Vegas live performance. Listen to the MSG version to Dani. I never heard this performance. He held that note long at the end. What used to get me mad about Elvis impersonation artists back in the day is they would over exaggerate his holding of a note with the vibrato. Now we have tribute artists and they learned how to better hold the note like him. He had some range in his voice. Beautiful Dani. Loved this.

Elvis had several great songs which were on the flipside ("Side B") of his hit 45 rpm records, such as "I Was the One" (which was the flipside of "Heartbreak Hotel", and "Playing for Keeps", which was the flip of "Too Much", etc.). Yo could call it "Flip-side Thursday".

There's another better, recorded in Vegas before june 1972.

It was fantastic but there are better versions from him that are even more powerful

Exactly Rob.. Dani has to check out Elvis at MSG June 10th 1972. I was 13 and I was there.. Changed my little brain in so many positive ways. Never experienced anything like before or since.

As noted by a number of other posters, he did it much better at MSG in June of 1972. I think the absolute best version is by Jim Nabors. The second best is by Bouke.

Have you seen the impromptu version that Jennifer Hudson did on The Voice UK? Just called to the band ,"I'd like to sing 'Impossible Dream'", they agreed on the key and then... MAGIC!!! But, your other suggestions--especially Jim Nabors' version is MAGNIFICENT!!!

Nice, but listen to the Madison Square Garden version. It is better. This version sounds like he is still trying to figure out how to sing it. This early version is from when he experimented with closing his show with it instead of Can't Help Falling In Love. In the June 10th 1972 Saturday evening performance he absolutely nails it with a breathtaking performance that is crisp and perfect. It knocks the audience dead.
