The Impossible Cleanup | Resident called me Sunday needed the job done by Tuesday!

This job came through on a Sunday afternoon and after speaking with the tenant he explained that the cleanup needed to be completed by the following Tuesday (2 days away) as he had a rental inspection coming up. I said that i'd drop past in the morning, have a look and do a quote. When I got there, the property needed much more work than expected. When I rang the customer to discuss the situation, he didn't answer his phone as he was on a flight to another city. My offer was pretty simple, I do a full yard cleanup, and only charge for green waste removal. After he didn't answer his cell phone, I was then left with 2 options - 1. Wait for his response, but potentially run out of time to complete the transformation. 2. Start the cleanup and hope for the best. Having said that, I was pretty sure he would be happy with my offer, so I began the job and hoped for the best. As you can see, the video is up running and the customer was happy, giving me a 5-star review! All up, I spent around 11 hours on this job, with 2 trips to the landfill.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

At some point, lawn care providers will worry about their client's happiness with the work. But with George, I just don't believe that will EVER be a problem.

If it had been my property I would have surely evicted this tenant. The lawn seemed to have been created so lovingly and to see it in that condition was heartbreaking. It's sad to see people not appreciating what they have 😢

I will never understand (I am 84 year old), why people/tenants can’t take care of their living space and yards. This tenant has a really nice house and yard. Yes, he should take some responsibility for its condition. Landlords get a bad reputation here in 🇺🇸for requiring this. I guess this is a universal human problem. Almost impossible to evict tenants here. I have a friend who evicted tenants, even went to court for failure to pay rent. Lost 5 months rent! But, they left the property spotless! Until we care for each other we will need more and more laws. This guy so lucky to have met up with George ‼️Go George ❤

You never know the background of the person renting this property.Maybe he is working a lot and doesn't have that much time to do a proper cleaning every week/month.
This is how a person who truly loves his job can do this neatly

Renter: I need my yard cleaned up, and I need it done yesterday. George: With complete sang froid says; No problem mate, and continues on with utter nonchalance and gets the impossible job done. Superman could not have done better.

What happens when a renter fails an inspection? How often does an inspection happen? When big bushes and trees are overgrown, which may take years, how does that count against the renter? Or is it just the garbage that counts against the renter? It seems rental inspections are a thing in Tasmania. Anyway, great job, George! You are a considerate and efficient person.

Normally, they just need to resolve the problem, but I suppose they could be evicted. Inspections normally happen every 3 - 6 months. Normally, the bushes are the landlords' responsibility, but every contract is different 🙂

Glad the tenant made an honest effort to keep up his end of renting and pleased you thought of videoing and having tip fees paid for. Enjoying as you restore and repair the design lines. The number of people affected is quite a lot: renter; owner; all the people in surrounding buildings who see the property; passers by.... That back side was something. What I love about lawn videos is everyone helping people out. What i think is admirable is the fact that you dont just help with mother nature you also help with the messes people themselves make. Kind of cheeky for the tenant to expect someone to clean up a neglected yard with trash besides in a matter of a couple of days. He’s lucky he found you, George, and that you agreed to make the property acceptable to the inspector!

This garden is so tidy and maintenance will be a lot easier. I loved the rocks in this garden. I could imagine sitting around a small pit with a mate or two, listening to tunes on the weekend. Lovely work as always George. You are the best at what you do 🎉

Hi George! You always go so far over and above to get these properties cleaned up. You shouldn't have to remove so much junk to even on the yard! I know that some people just can't do their own yards, but they shouldn't be throwing their trash out there. That's just wrong on so many levels, not to mention unsanitary. Some people should not live in houses with property to maintain. An apartment or condo would be much better suited for them. I know when my husband passes, this house will go on the market quickly. We are both 72 years old, and there is no way that I could mow and take care of this yard. Bless you for what you do. You are the kindest man on KZread!!!

I live in the states. I want you to know that you are my favorite when it comes to yard transformations! I used to have a home with a nice-sized yard and was responsible for the Yardwork. I am very impressed in the improvements in the tools used. Mowers, Shovels, weed eaters, the ladders, reusable bags, etc. I really enjoy watching you work and the explanations you give when cutting down certain plants, trees and bushes! Oh yes and the vines. I wish my friend had someone like you to help her with her yard. But I guess the work ethic here isn’t as dedicated as you are. Keep on transforming those gardens and stay safe! You are amazing! ❤ I love the fact that you will put nails in a board to repair a fence and even replacing boards on steps and making certain they are level steps so no one gets hurt because it’s unstable or wobbles.
