The Importance of Wisdom | Ep 1 - Hikmah in the Quran | Dhul Hijjah Series | Nouman Ali Khan

Read Dr. Saqib Hussain's paper on 'Wisdom in the Quran': signup.bayyinahtv.com/hikmah-...
To kick off the blessed 10 days of Dhul Hijjah, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan introduces a new series on the concept of hikmah (wisdom) in the Quran.
The inspiration to teach this topic originally stemmed from his study of Surah Al-Jumuah, in particular verse 2 where Allah says: "He is the One Who raised for the illiterate people a messenger from among themselves-reciting to them His revelations, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom...." [62:2].
Thereafter, Ustadh looked deeper into this and drew findings from the incredibly detailed PhD thesis by Dr. Saqib Hussain on the same topic.
This series is a summary of some of the concepts from this paper and Ustadh Nouman's research in hikmah in the Quran.

That hikma is something that comes with age and experience as well observing and learning from the experiences of others. I'm young like super young now and I dont have the wisdom that my grandpa had. However I'm learning and picking on things, the patterns and alhamduliah it consolidates and it could be called wisdom. I learn so much from ustadh especially the way he teaches and that has been beneficial for me when I tutor younger kids. It's the subtle things that I can pick on.

Whenever you speak, you speak just, your wisdom increases gradually. You speak, the other way, it decreases. Much Justice = a lot Wisdom

(that nouman ali khan is pukhtun woohoo) that as muslims we must live actively; analyzing our actions and their consequences. we cannot live passively and go with the flow and not think before acting. we must first be knowledgeable and wise, then use that knowledge and wisdom in the purest of our intentions to guide others. we need to learn what wisdom means in ISLAM. in the narrower sense, it is to know WHAT to say and HOW to say it to WHOM you're speaking to. in the broader sense, we'll get to know in the future episodes, but it could basically be to follow the sunnah, learn how the prophet did it and combine it with the ability to read the room that Allah has blessed you with, i think

This is why I often make dua to Allah for giving me clarity of speech in my language too because all of my life I knew I wanted to say something with hikma (wisdom) but didnt have the words to do so. I know it sounds so weird. Like I've seen my parents arguing over something a million times and if I try to address the problem because I understand that you gotta diagnose the root cause first and then piece in other factors there's always a solution but no one wants to listen me.(I believe eloquencey helps) Also my mom did something similar she used to yell at us to pray and would even scare us by bringing up Jahannam and punishment of the grave but stopped doing so (cz she realized it was driving us away from prayer) and alhamduliah I started praying and my sister started doing so as well.

Asc, brother or sister. You’ve said something profound that resonates with me because I’ve found myself doing it as well. In a similar way to you, I rather pray for an increase in knowledge and by Allah is there a lot to learn and how abundant it is when it comes to all things alongside the deen. Back to my point, about identifying the root cause of a problem rather than the symptoms of said problem. It may sound and seem like common sense to do so but I’ve found people will often feel (does not to apply to everyone) that you’re either undermining or acting like a know it all, as they say, and will often ignore you. The reason for that reaction is none other than the fact that, those same people will require the same understanding as you in order to move forward and so when you offer to come and try to work out their problem with them, you meet resistance in the form of “you don’t think I’ve tried that”. In some extreme cases they’ll ridicule you and try to belittle you and poke fun at your circumstances, in the case of you being less successful they they. The best you can do so in such a case is pray for their guidance and guidance comes in many forms, while Allah(The Sublime) may accept your other dua by either answering immediately(which is relative), delaying it for you, exchanging it for something better or use it to protect you from something and withholding it for the Akhira, what he will neither withhold nor exchange is the dua of guidance, he gives it relatively immediately so that’s your best bet Akhi/Ukhti.

To be honest, everything you need to know about hikma is in Surah Youssef. It’s the best example of how hikma is given, used, and takes you home to Garden of Eden. First and foremost, hikma is a reward from Allah. It is rewarded when one takes heed to Allah’s guidance. That means trials and tribulations will be your friend for a season, lol. When you surrender to His will, you will be tried to see if you sincerely believe. Through the trials, your patience and gratitude will be tested. So, if you pass your tests with patience that includes prayers to Allah to deliver you, you will gain wisdom. Think of trials as a season of planting and wisdom as the fruit of the labor. Wisdom is the firm knowing that Allah always has a plan, which allows you to be patient beautifully. Wisdom is having gratitude for your ups and downs as you know both are tests to prove you’re a believer to Allah. The beauty of that experience is that Allah proves His existence to you too as you will know that it was only His guidance and compassion that got you through😊 so you will be inspired to correct your actions and become a believer who corrects him/her self (saliheene). Wisdom is the firm knowing that immorality will turn you ignorant, which is the ultimate level one should strive for as that will invite you to become a Mohssine. A mohssine is a believer who responds to evil with goodness. That is how you graduate from being of those from the right to those of the front who are elite, like Joseph and Abraham. They are in the Garden of Eden, where we are from. Joseph’s story is the detailed example of hikma. But it’s also summarized for us in surah Fatiha 😊

I will also add, that without hikmah, you will be stuck in the lowest level of the deen as a mere Muslim (someone who surrendered). May we all strive to be of the mohsseen/ mokhlaseen. Remember Satan does not come for the Mokhlaseen. They are the only people he exempted from his deception and the only ones Allah told Him He could never have any authority over 😊

I always feel blessed when I listen to your teachings, and filled with joy that you Brother Nouman and Dr Saqib are working on this via a vital and valuable route. The academic route. I appreciate the academic input and research, and we as muslims should be pioneering in this, and am happy that you have come on this journey and are sharing your lessons with the world. Taking the academic route does not mean we lose our spiritual one, which is something a lot of modern day muslims struggle with. So, keep on your hard work! It is important for us to study and understand how the early muslims percieved the revelations, and how much of that understanding we have yet to gain if Allah wills. It is essential to all Believers that we understand our history, and the contents of the Quran. If the average muslim sincerely read the Quran in arabic, or a very good translation of it, without any preconcieved sectarian or traditional notions of Islam, then I am sure Hikmah will follow InshAllah. Mahi, FRSA 🙏🏽❤️ 💯

It is my firm belief that the personality of the speaker is reflected in the speech. So NAK's khutbas contain an element of humour that at one point in time I was wondering whether I am listening for the content or to elevate my mood! Maybe that too falls in the bracket of wisdom. Not to DISTRACT from the message but to deliver in a lighter vein

I can agree with his statements regarding the Arabs, I had a few international Arabs friends. One of my best friends married an Arab man. After knowing him, my best friend changed from wearing hijab to not wearing hijab, wearing revealing clothes, going to clubs and et cetera. When I asked her in front of her husband (Mind you her husband never lets her hang out with her friends or family without him or any of his family members present), he told me that Quran never directly states that women need to wear hijab and cover ourselves. It frightens me as I feel awe towards Arabs as they have an upper hand in understanding the language and messages of Quran. With that being said, not all of them are like that. I have also met a kind Arab man that told me how he felt protective and angry when other men looked at my Aurat/Aurah, this was back when I was yet to wear a hijab. He was the blessing in disguise (Hikmah) that Allah S.W.T send to me when I felt weak and lost. My whole life, I had been to a mosque and been told to wear a hijab and cover my Aurat or I will be condemned in Jahanam, yet I did not do it until I met him. He was a stranger that saw me eating one day and talked to me about how we were brothers and sisters in Islam. He told me that he regrets that he cannot guide his own flesh and blood sister to wear hijab but he will pray for me to wear hijab. The way he spoke was so kind and soft that made me cry all the way back to my university dorm. From there on, I started slowly to cover my Aurat even though most of the people around me told me not to as I was still young (20 years old) and I can repent when I'm older. Most of them abandon me during that time, it was hard but I made it until now. I still learning about Islam until now, and the more I discover about Islam, the more I know that I knew nothing. For those of you who are still stumbling, it's okay to feel like giving up, it's okay to fall and lost your way. Keep Allah S.W.T in your heart, think about Him and talk to Him every day in your heart and one day Insha Allah you will find your way back. P.S : Wherever you are Mohamad, I will pray for your sister too to cover her Aurah too. Keep preaching brother, you never know whose life you will change just by being kind and spreading His wisdom.

If I call my kids to pray , younger age they join with me , but when grown up , it is difficult to make them pray . But when a gang of children together, they will pray . Mm when they are free of mind and fully satisfied state if I call for Salah , they happily do . If they make some thing wrong and I tell them to ask Allah’s forgiveness. They do as they recognise they did wrong and want forgiveness. If they really need something and I tell them to pray and ask Allah in Sujood . They do . But in normal days it’s very difficult. If I force , sometimes with anger they do or tell while pray later or reget and leave the room . That’s all about my two kiddies ❤❤

Theres a collision of two vehicles and they are presented to the ER....to assess which pt needs emergency treatment and which can wait, which one cud be dying and needs immediate say blood transfusions or operation and which can be treated at a moderate pace is that part of Hikmah. Knowing what to do when to do it? Knowing the sensitivity of the matter and dealing with it.

Wisdom means judgement about decision making but HIKMAH is a little bit different from it. It means making decisions about good deeds and evil deeds as described in the Quran. That is why the Quran is called ALHIKMAH, that which gives God’s decisions about good and evil deeds.

After knowing such lucky people like Ustadh Nauman, I have no doubt in confessing that I just wasted my 40 years of life. Lucky in the sense that they searched, tried hard, and finally found their purpose of life. I have no words to appreciate if the purpose is to enlighten the darkness in others. But me and millions of souls like me are just wandering in search of purpose. If I die today, I have nothing to take forward, WHAT A WASTE.

Salam, I'm subscribe to BayyinahTV. However, I can't find the entire lecture to watch. Going through a low-point and could really use the insights for the coming series. Jazakallah!
