The importance of measuring valve spring rates correctly

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The springs in your valvetrain take a real hammering, so when we build any engine, we pay special attention to making sure they are measured correctly and fit for the particular application. In this video, we explain how we do this with our V10 engines, including twin-turbo builds.

    That was an intense course in the world of valve springs Ricky. I and I bet many more viewers had no idea how technical it gets, especially in the heady world of high performance engines. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    Really pleased to see how well you’re doing since leaving us at VWG Ricky. Videos give great insight into the work you’re doing on the super cars but being old school I’d really like some content on the Dodge Charger in the background on the Matt Armstrong video!

    Agreed I like the guys knowledge of engines and being humble with it, but you can keep the engines and cars they reside in (not a lover of modern supercars) but then I'm old school and also like the Yank V8 stuff inc the Mopar

    Great vids, love the tech stuff ! I've just recently rebuilt my engine (pistons/rods/cams/valves/springs etc), and doing the valve to piston with VVT took some time! Hopefully I got it right but that would also be cool to see how you guys do it too :) And any of the tuning work too, whether N/A or FI.

    Do a complete engine build and what type or grade are the alloys used in various parts,especially moving parts which are coated with anti friction coating and hi temp coatings and also how much real balancing is done when building a V8 or V10 lambo engine and which parts are balanced and where the material is removed to make sure each moving part is perfectly as can get in weight and moving balanced etc.:) Love a upload about that?

    Great videos, arrived here via Jayemm and Guy Martin videos. I’m interested in what sort of modelling and simulation you do as part of your development work. Don’t expect its anything like what the big players might be doing, but is there much beyond simple first principals / spreadsheet type analysis (as per spring preload in this vid)? I’m involved in mechanical analysis in a different field using packages like simulink and from the few videos I’ve watched so far you could get a lot of value from it (m&s). Possible video topic anyway 👍🏻

    Also how much extra work is done compared to factory engines and what aftermarket improved parts can you buy, so that the engine and running gear will last a lot longer, even if your racing the cvar on weekends etc. :)

    The stock springs have Marks on them and, I would like to know which one is for intake or exhaust.also you said the valve springs are identical that means the marks on the spring don't matter in I swapped it by mistake?

  • @bulmang9256

    Why dont you show and calculate the needed spring strenght for this setup so it wont loose valve control but is not too hard to increase wear of the parts.

    Also I got one more question. In one of your videos you mentioned: kzread.info/dash/bejne/goWFw5qYkrGvfrA.html Were the springs that lost 30% of their pressure taken out of twin turbo or out of stock Lambo engine?

    Why not just match springs. Test them and use only the springs that have consistent forces at the given compression. Why bother with shimming to match spring weights?

  • @REPerformanceUK

    @REPerformanceUK

    3 жыл бұрын

    We don’t shim to match spring weights, we do that to increase pressure across the board. We do use matched springs.
