Good video, I agree that you definitely need a balance between competitive and casual. Unfortunately this card game does have a lot of people who just want to win. My local group is just 6 people and we make sure everyone has a casual decks in case people don't want to get locked out by a vaccine player hitting ruin mode turn 2. Casual formats would be great, id personally really like to see a highlander format where every card has to be a 1 of in your deck

To be fair, this game has a lot of playable options. You can look at the meta decks and choose between loogamon, mirage, shine, leviamon, deva, sec con, vaccine, armor, bloomlord, gargomon, heavyleomon, greymon, garurumon, red hybrid, d-brigade, numemon etc. Those are just off the top of my head. I could understand your argument more if we were in a tier 0 format or if it was just protagonist getting support but that's not the case.

I do agree completely we have a lot of variety in the meta, but we also have Plesiomon, Chessmon, Ravemon, Sakuyamon, Gammamon, Diarbbitmon, Mamemon, Tyrannomon, Galacticmon, Eosmon, etc. that aren't really that great compared to the meta. And some people want to play those decks, but you play them at a local and your match ups are Leviamon, Red Hybrid, and Numemon? You're not gonna have a good time.

I think you'll fall into a rabbit hole if you try to please everyone because someone is going to show up that wants to play pixiemon tribal. Locals should be a place where you can play what you want. If you want to play something you know isn't very good, you'll just get paired down with others that are also not playing something very good. At least that's what typically happens at our locals.@@MeatyKage

I agree with the sentiment of this video. At the shop I play at we tend to gauge power levels of decks before we start. If someone doesn’t have the most competitive deck we have 20 decks between us to let someone else play.

I agree and disagree. I agree that locals is a lot more fun when you’re playing against a variety of decks. I disagree that others should play jank just because you want to. Everyone should play want they want. But I’m privileged to have a really good locals scene with a variety of skill levels and archetypes present. Good video meaty, convos like this are always good to have.

I also don't think people should HAVE to play jank, but I do think that having a casual day at a local or just having a more casual local at another store while also having a competitive day/local is a good balance for any local scene. If you purely only have a heavily competitive local, you will alienate new players and players that just want to play because they like Digimon. Not everyone wants to play with or against the meta, so finding a way to give the casuals a chance is beneficial for everyone in my opinion.
