Splitscreen co-op was one of the biggest contributors to Halo's success as a series, and Bungie knew just how important it would be when making Halo. It's a tool that helps bring gamers together, and there should never exist a Halo without it

Thanks for making this vid. Our Channel is indeed about Split Screen gaming. Halo included. And we're looking for other people who like to share such kind of gaming on their Channels. And hopefully, your vid will encourage others who never tried the feature before, to give it a chance. Now, more so than ever, regarding Halo's MP. Especially Local MP. Because, as we all know, Infinite is the first Halo game to *finally* introduce AI Bot support. And as someone who has played extensively with and against them on Marine and ODST difficulty, I can say, these Bots are the most sophisticated I've seen yet.

Splitscreen is a huge importance to many of us. I would never be a Happy Player if it weren’t for my Brother playing Splitscreen with me as a child. I and my local friends have been playing Halo 3 and 2 which has been amazing feeling like the old LAN Parties

literally the biggest reason why I played halo back then.

The greatest memories I have in my entire life is sitting down with my mother and playing screen co op. Showing my own mother the franchise I grew up with, being able to show her why I love the experience so much. Before I had started playing online in 2017, my ONLY experience with halo is split screen. My best memories are with halo's split screen shenanigans. 343 failed to deliver on the one promise I had actually cared about in halo infinite. I had to tell my mother "halo infinite and 5 don't have split screen so we can't even play those together" it really sucks.

I read, and I care about your comment. When Infinite released, I told my little brother for over a year that we would eventually get to play together. I was so angry when Joe announced they were dropping the feature, I stopped playing Infinite altogether, and me and my brother have slowly stopped playing MCC now too. There is still decency and dignity, it just doesn't seem to show its face as often as it did before. But we're still here trying today. Believe, they once said.

I never use split screen anymore, BUT the very first time I ever played Halo 3 was campaign split screen at a house party with a buddy and that shit is scorched into my brain. It's such a core memory for me lol

I'd say that'd be the same for a lot of Halo fans. Splitscreen was my first exposure to halo too! It's a feature that should always be in halo, so I hope 343 bring it back for Halo 7. We need to make more memories ahaha

When I booted up halo 5 for the first time to play with my cousin, only to find out that there’s no split screen, I fucking lost my shit. With halo infinite promising split screen later but unfulfilling that promise just left me with the feeling of disappointment instead of anger because I somehow knew they weren’t going to do it

Man I got introduced to Halo when Halo 4 released (halo 3 still the goat) and me and my dad played split screen and beat the game. A great memory and I just miss Halo

What's insulting is everyone lost split screen and many more features just so that they could make more armours and cosmetics some people might buy.

True, if we were getting new content in the form of weapons and vehicles, people wouldn't have cared so much. However more focus went into battlepasses, and store cosmetics instead of finishing splitscreen coop.

A splitscreen mod just released for MCC on PC, been having an insane amount of fun with it and it works with every mod

we live in a world where we actually have large televisions for splitscreen. back in the day, we had 32inch tv to use. I sat on the floor to get better view. it should always be standard for Halo to have splitscreen on console & PC and lan

I started halo with split screen I remember going to a friends house in 2011 age 8 ish and he was playing halo reach forge world we got on split screen and just spawned in weapons to fight each other that same week I went to the game store to buy my own halo reach and before long I got halo ce anniversary all the other games and was hyped for halo 4 witch was coming out the following year I wasn’t disappointed with halo 4 loved that game so much to the point I’m still playing it spent 3 hours today playing halo 4 matchmaking on mcc only halo game I haven’t liked was infinite even enjoyed halo 5

halo split screen is still the main reason why I still keep my 360 hooked up, Halo is a franchise that means a lot to me and that’s thanks to its local splitscreen multiplayer and co op.

343 should have taken notes and added it to the master chief collection on pc aswell and newer games

I think halo 5 actually marks when I stopped playing with people in person lol Now it’s so hard to get someone to play with me in person because everyone is used to playing online

I always loved halo and the first time I played halo was halo 3 when I played it with my older brother on the 360. We played all the halo games and were so disappointed to know we'd have to play halo 5 solo without each other. Before infinite released we had so much planned for what we were going to do on the open world. We said we'll wait for it till November 2022 and it just never arrived. We then saw that glitch and were delighted. We played it using that glitch and we enjoyed it but it was buggy and never felt right. Now that campaign has a different launcher I don't know if we'll be able to play infinite together again. There is still s9 much we haven't done like beating it on LASO together

The only reason i got an xbox was because i went to my friends house and played Halo Splitscreen. It then became my favourite game ever since 😎

Love the video, Ghost. I still play splitscreen campaign to this day. Effectively, Halo 4, 5 and Infinite don't exist when I sit down to play with family or friends. The story stops at 3, we never play 4. I haven't replayed Infinite, I don't play Infinite. Why would I? My brother who bought me the GearBox CE port for PC, hasn't even played Infinite... I didn't use Splitscreen often as the smaller screen annoyed me ha but the option for it was amazing!

Funny how DragonBall Sparking Zero just released a video explaining that split screen local would be in the game, but it is limited to only one stage. I don’t think it’s just Halo; many games throw it to the side (if it’s even considered in the first place). Times change. Is it unfortunate for some? Yes. Key word there is “some”; not large enough for companies to give a damn.

Just a tidbit of info, while HALO Infinite DID have split screen co-op working, there was a big glitch, which caused entire save files to get corrupted (for all players involved in the party) that they couldn't get to iron out, alongside other issues such as time of day not matching across players. But to think that we were so close to actually having the feature, only to have it taken away from was nothing less than a heartbreaking disappointment. But then again, considering the changes the Multiplayer has undergone over time (like the removal of Multiplayer story content, then Seasons altogether, though it's tame compared to split screen co-op), it's now hard to hold out positivity for this game anymore, despite having stuck to it for such a long time, having to defend the developers' struggle to deliver on their promises, much less a feature complete game. As much as I look forward to HALO 7, I hope it truly does better in terms of being an actually feature complete game, that, of course, includes split screen co-op.

@@FootedGhost Still hate that they wasted so much development time around the split screen update removing the drivable campaign pelican, removing the portable tank gun, re-adding the portable tank gun, and removing obscure speedrun tactics, removing the skill jumps in multiplayer, and adding some back, and well you get the idea.

Right in the feels. Yea put it like that seems like they always wanted to not do it to force everyone to have a copy and stay at home, in then leading to a digital only world, alone :(

I understand couch coop isnt easy as much as it used to but how do introduce someone into halo you played split screen not oh lets switch off on death like even if its a small part it still a part of gaming and its how you grow a game even if its a small change its still a part of Halo and Xbox as a whole

Are there many open world split screen games ? MP is expected and Infinite has that but I don't know of any open world games with split screen. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong but I don't think it's that common. I'm a 52yo gamer and I'm what you'd call an average player. There seems to be a lot of nostalgia hugging about this subject.

Unpopular opinion: Screen peeking made it more fun!!!

"There were video footage surfacing a week or two after announcement" I just want to bring up how every youtuber seems to always forget that it wasn't AFTER splitscreen was cancelled in Infinite that people found out how to glitch into splitscreen. That's when most people found out about it and it became infuriating to most people, but it was not long after the game LAUNCHED that splitscreen was glitched into and there were videos of it. So we knew it was possible that long in advance before they even cancelled it, and then saw it was still possible after they cancelled it as well.

What is really ironic is that Halo 5 was the first one MADE to be co-op. Literally unique HUDS, multiple squad members. And splitscreen was removed! WHAT?! It also ignores multi-sibling households. Most homes will only have 1 console, and expect couch co-op so they don't have to spend over 1000USD on two consoles and two games.

Every Christmas party i pull out the Xbox series x and 4 controllers and play multiplayer on "The Master Chief Collection" and its literally the only game that is fun and fun.🎉

Worth mentioning they released MCC and Infinite on PC, and went OUT OF THEIR WAY to say they’re “discussing”/exploring split-screen on PC (even in one of the staten clips you included) and made no progress. As far as I can tell they just wanted to shut up fans

I really dislike international play for this reason; I value IRL friend groups for gaming over digital friends/long-distance friends. I love being able to sit on the same couch and play Halo with friends or family. Cross-play kind of gets in the way of this too, coming to think of it, though I’m not as bothered if I can still play Halo with IRL friends. International matchmaking has its perks, but not if it’s getting in the way of local matchmaking. Not for me.

I literally say I'm not a gamer, I'm a Halo player. I downloaded Halo Infinite on launch BUT have yet to play the campaign because the lack of split screen......

I agree split-screen is awesome. But the reason developers don't really do it anymore is it is very heavy computationally. As games continue to get bigger and push fidelity more split-screen becomes less and less possible. I'm sure infinite took a lot of resources and time to get split-screen in multiplayer, unfortunately reality is split-screen will probably have to go away entirely at some point.

They should have it in the game, but let's be honest, who actually uses it in this day and age?

Skulls aren't a necessary part of halo; they are meant to modify the game AFTER the first playthrough. Most people I know played halo by themselves the first time, then got their friends to come over and play too. Also, sure, online gaming is a lot more convenient. But, you can't tell me that having friends physically over to play splitscreen isn't far more enjoyable than playing online. I actually play halo with my brother quite often; he owns it on his pc, and i on mine. But he still comes over just to play it splitscreen on the xbox. I don't think it's ever possible for splitscreen to "die" - there will always be people who play that way, when given the choice.

MW2 and trash talking and swearing into the mic, the skweakers, Xbox LFG, Discord all have made online gaming and virtual interaction better than coop. It's why no game but Halo still tries bothering with a dead system. I find it stupid people want dead things that a minority want and have the Gaulle to whine and moan when it doesn't happen.

It's dead to most triple a, the only who still implements it is Nintendo, but some indie and semi big games still have split screen in this day and age. Got some examples: Alien Homid Invasion, Salt and Sacrifice, Hyper Light Drifter, Salt and Sanctuary, Minecraft Dungeons.

And then people with siblings complained about playing on a split screen and wanted to play on a solo fuller screen instead after awhile hahaha

I agree but we gotta be honest spilt screen is a dying feature. Everything is online and many people have multiple devices in their homes. I think it’s a feature we’ll see less and less of

yes 343 obviously isn’t completely innocent either but I still believe that microsoft themselves have been pulling most of the strings for a lot of 343’s blunders, call me a fake fan I honestly don’t care but Microsoft pulling support from MCC after the community said no to micro transactions is one big giveaway. Again 343 isn’t completely innocent, they’ve done some pretty stupid shit in the past but at the end of the day, Microsoft is the big boss of 343 so they gotta follow orders.

I did say that in the video, it has 4 player splitscreen, but no splitscreen co-op. So 343 still didn't keep their promise. Halo Infinite is MUCH better than Halo 5, and I'm glad we have multiplayer splitscreen, but no campaign splitscreen co-op was a bad move, when so many Halo players like to play the campaigns with friends and family.
