I just wanna say this is one of the few lore-focused Star Wars channels (and comment sections) that doesn't feel like a wookiepedia circlejerk but an analysis that actually takes into account how the lore works in tandem with the filmmaking intent and themes of Andor. I've seen too many EU and Legends discussions veer off into 100% unlikely speculation territory because they forget the Star Wars content is fictional and made by real human beings trying to put real world ideas and feelings out there through a creative medium. Props to yall for being the sanest Star Wars fans.

Not gonna lie, your fangirling over this series finally pushed me to watch it. And, admittedly, it's not bad at all. Less of Disney molesting the corpse of the franchise and more of a fresh take of the stories that can be spun in the universe. Great video, as always, and I'm now invested in what's gonna happen next. In regards to your theory of what's coming next, I think you're spot on, and I appreciate your content as always. In a way it's good that this series can be predicted by the breadcrumbs laid out once you find them, a good series has a logical progression that connects events in a meaningful way and being able to see something coming to a degree of accuracy (outside of it basically being told to you explicitly) means it has a hold on it's storytelling and isn't just a roller coaster ride trying to surprise you with various things and relying on novelty to sell it's excitement.

Look I feel like we beat up on the regular security old guy too much. His assessment of the situation that happened was spot on. In the court of law Andor could’ve gotten off with a self defense claim. Him choosing not to go after it was not only for stability but a retaining of resources and keeping everyone employed. Mr young inspector got multiple people killed and cost everyone their job. All because he couldn’t let something go because of ego and misplaced bravado. Old head said it best “they clearly harassed a man with dark features and chose the wrong person to annoy” he also acknowledged that the two were not men of any “honor” and that they were dirtbags. But he made the choice to give them a “hero” story send off of them dying while rushing to aid someone.

Ramble on, I'll listen...watch....whatever. I can't say enough how much I love Andor (the show, not the man, okay the man too). The Empire has been mostly used as a two dimensional plot device for the "good guys" to overcome, and always do. The stormtroopers billed as an elite fighting force, were exceptional at killing Jawas and someone's aunt and uncle, but can't beat plot armor or teddy bears. Once stormtroopers are brought into Andor, I would immediately think of them as a threat because of the storytelling in this show. I love how they've used Imperial army, and the ISB in this series, I wish star wars made good use of the other branches of the Empire, like in the Solo movie. Having the memory of a gnat I still struggle pathetically to remember whether the Republic or the Empire came first, to say nothing of the vast underpinnings of the stories. Real life is just too distracting. That's why this channel has been such a gas. Allen's wry delivery makes it feel accessible, and his patient explanations of lore in digestible bites that even I can follow gives meaning to things I world never think could be significant. I love the fact that he has a deep appreciation of story structure and the effect of dramatic structures, and instead of being pedantic, he demonstrates how all these factoids add meaning to the whole thang. When Luthen was getting stressed about the mission in his shop he said something like that he hadn't been careful with Andor. That's setting up if Andor goes down he goes down - so if you're right that Andor gets trapped by the Empire on Ferix then Luthen HAS to step in to save him. Also Ep 1 set up that Andor owed a lot of his friends money on Ferix - I'm thinking he's the kind of guy that wants to go back to Ferix to pay his debts.

tbh Andor is much better than expected. they rightly took a lot of focus away from Andor himself and instead put the spotlight on the beginnings of the Rebellion ot restore the Republic. Which is a hugely interesting part of Star Wars and one we hardly got to see before.

Dedra coming from enforcement and ending up in what's basically "space Gestapo" reflects the historical group. There were two types of Gestapo. The majority were "old guard" law enforcement, Sipo (security police) detectives who were transferred into this brand new department, and often were transferred right back to the local police after the war was over. They were not members of the Nazi Party. Sipo was part of the military, and in Weimar Germany, the military could not be members of a political party or even vote. They were expected to uphold whatever the law was, no matter which political group made up the laws. So when Hitler took over, they simply didn't question if his new laws were moral. They had never needed to question it before, and were discouraged from doing so under more-sane times. Then there was the "new guard," some of the most dedicated and hardcore Nazis in Germany. (THE most hardcore were doctors, who joined the Nazi Party en masse early on, despite a large portion of them being Jewish... back when the National Socialists tried to woo citizens with the "socialist" part and many didn't bother to think what the "nationalist" part implied, kinda like how many early Nazis were labor union leaders and homosexuals, two groups later massacred. Plus if you know about Aktion T4 or Erbgesundheitsgerichte, you'd know why only the hardest-core Nazis remained as doctors after 1933.) When you hear of the death squads and barbaric acts of the Gestapo, that was mostly the new guys. They were too brutal for police work (where the goal was to keep people mollified so rebellions didn't start up) and took sadistic glee in some of the worst atrocities of the war. These guys were also almost always NOT within Germany's main borders. They were in Poland, France, etc. away from what average Germans saw. People trusted the middle-aged inspector they'd known for years. They were less likely to open up and speak freely to some slick-haired blond 20-something with a toothbrush mustache. Nazis relied heavily on a myth that the Gestapo were "everywhere" when in reality they were understaffed, relying on busybodies and tips from the locals. (A lot like the ISB relying on private security and hoping people call in with tips.) They also used tons of propaganda that built them up to be your "friendly neighborhood inspector" who kept Germany safe. Within German borders, around 90% of the Gestapo's inquiries were looking into reports from abused wives who couldn't get a divorce, so they accused their husbands of saying something bad about Goering or even Hitler himself, with the hopes that their husband would "disappear forever." As much as we think that the Gestapo could literally get away with murder, this was not the case if you were a German citizen. Then, they could do nothing without proof that would hold up in court (testimony under duress was still not allowed under the law) so that line in the episode about "vetted evidence" reminded me of that tidbit of history. Of course, these were the old guard, those with decades of experience in mind games, ways to trick people into giving away the evidence they needed for a conviction. They didn't need torture; they needed fear and asking the same questions over and over in different ways until you slipped up.
