The Icecap Climate - Secrets of World Climate #12

The coldest places on earth, where 99% of the Earth's freshwater lies, locked up in ice sheets kilometers deep. A land of ice, snow, glaciers, freezing winds, and bitter cold.
This is Greenland. This is Antarctica. This is the icecap.

👉12:16 Summary of Global Climate Zones
The twelfth and final episode in a unique series exploring all the major climate zones of the world focuses in full high-definition video on real places in each climate zone. In this geography documentary, we show this part of the world in its full beauty, and uncover the secrets of why it is that way and show you the lands and settlements that lie within.
The distinguishing feature of the icecap climate is that temperatures remain below freezing all year round. This means no vegetation at all. It would be a totally lifeless place was it not for various species of penguins toughing it out in the most hostile climate on earth, free from any predators.
Winters here are extremely cold and lie in total darkness for months at a time. The coldest recorded temperatures on earth lie in the high icecap of East Antarctica, with temperatures below 90°C on record.
There are no human settlements here, beyond the various research stations populated by scientists from various countries, with the largest being McMurdo Station, and other notables, the Scott-Amundsen South Pole Station, and the Russian Vostok station.

Today I completed this series with you and I must say I had never enjoyed a youtube documentary series this much. Your commentary on top of the beautiful coverage was so soothing, and I have learned and noted so much along the way. I will always always recommend this to anybody who ever showed interest in learning about our beloved Earth. Thank you so much for your service.

Beautiful series! Now I’ll make up climate classifications for climates on other celestials: Mercury: Xa (scorching vacuum) Venus: AAAf (scorching runaway greenhouse) Moon: Xb (vacuum) Mars: Bxc (cold low-pressure) at the equator and EBx (carbon dioxide ice cap low-pressure) at the poles AAA means over 400c with significant atmosphere, X means airless, Bx means low pressure, etc.

Another awesome episode! As beautiful as enlightening! I'm just a bit sad thinking this series is almost ending! I hope you can continue doing more. I've never have seen an explanation of climates such this in my life! And is all the work and effort in it that makes it really awesome, the well selected music for each episode, the drones views are breathtaking and the hyperlapses too and even the way you narrate it denotes a great passion. I'm so glad to have seen this series and interact with you! Thanks a lot!

Amazing! I binge watched the whole series. I had already generally mapped out climate zones for a worldbuilding project of mine, but had no way to relate what exactly all the zones meant. Thanks to your series, I was able to refine those zones and get an idea of what cultures would develop in these areas. Thank you so much for these beautiful videos!

In the timelapse of the summer ice sheets in Antarctica, at around 9:00, is it just me or does it look like the ice is slowly rotating clockwise? Would that be a result of the circum-polar current or am I seeing things?

It’s been a great journey, thank you very much! It was very hard to make myself watch these 12 episodes in three consecutive days and not as one binge-watch; I don’t think I ever enjoyed anything more than this on youtube; it was a very thoughtful, stylish, and informative series on climate, a perfect introduction/summary to the topic, if I may say.
