    Hi everyone, just wanted to make a quick correction. During the description, I said I used 2 Switchcraft 500k pots. That was incorrect. It should read, 2 CTS 500k pots. Thanks for watching it.

    @@sixstring1950 the Ibanez lower bout is 15 and 3/4 inch. About the same as an es335. Most of those style guitars are 16 inch lower bout, not 17. If you want a smaller bout, double cut away, check out the Epiphone 339 body. Also D'angelico and Eastman make small bodies also.

    I’ve just got a tobacco as53, absolutely love it, your mods look and sound great, but I’m out on the pick guard you have done a great job of it but my personal thoughts are the 53 is a unique looking guitar and looks good the way it is but still a good job on the pick guard

    Hey Dave, I feel you on that. Lots of folks have guitars with no pick guards, But for me- I found that my guitars will get scratched up over the months of playing. I don't like all the marks on my instruments. Although, PRS has guitars costing thousand of bucks, and they never have pick guards! But as I said I would have a boat load of scratches on the lower face and horn, so I always buy guitars with pickguard-just my personal chose. I just purchased a new Eastman AR603-15 for over $2000 and a new D'Angelico Premier SS and they both have guards. I don't want to see any more scratches on my guitars than I have to...lol. Its easier to replace a pick guard than have to refinish or buff out the top with compounds or scratch and swirl removers (which I done). So glad you like your AS53. They are nice ES335 type guitars that look and play well for not a lot of money. And you can "Mod" them up as you go along. Thanks for checking out my video and for your comments, it much appreciated. Play well; and stay safe!

    Thanks for the review. Just bought one a couple weeks ago (slight imperfection from shipping $210). It has singlehandedly got me excited to practice again. I like how you mod'd yours. I may do the same. Oh, I'm 66 and have the same problem with Cmaj7! lol

    Nice job! your AS53 Semi looks and sounds great. I have a Ibanez Artcore AF75 (hollow body) and I was looking to update the pickups but I didn't want to spend in excess of $200 for the set of SD 59's (I'm on the neck 90%). Your improv of using the after market pup on the bridge sounded really good. One question I have is; Did you reuse the Ibanez p/u covers or did you order the replacements with covers already on them?

  • @Gregabalese

    @Gregabalese

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Charlie, I always buy the pickups with the covers already installed, so I don't reuse the cover. Also, I only buy a premium pup (like a Seymour Duncan 59) for the neck position, because I only play on the neck pickup most of the time. That bridge pup on the video is one I had lying around so I decided to try it. So, you can put something cheap or even leave the original pickup in place at the bridge position if you're playing a lot of jazz; like I do. I hope your "mod" comes out great. Thanks so much for checking out my video and for your comments. Stay Safe!

    Hi, you have the exact tuners I want for my as53 only I want silver, I use a Gibson LP studio but after the pots needed looking at I used my as53 for a gig and was blown away, previous it had been collecting dust, really want to make it look a little cooler. Do you have model name of the tuners? Also, did you keep the bridge etc?

  • @Gregabalese

    Hey Scott, how are things going? Hope your staying safe. Those tuners are from Wilkinson. I got them off eBay. But I not sure what seller I got mine from, its been so long and I buy so much stuff. Anyway, it will give you a starting point. Look around see what you find to fit your look and price point. Also, "HipShot" makes good cheap tuners and they come with the UMP to make them fit also most any guitar. Search Google for Hipshot and Wilkinson tuners. You might try "Reverb" also. I'm sure you'll find what you want. Make sure you get the correct screw mounting configuration. Thanks for your comment and for checking out my video. Good luck. (Try to find a USA dealer if you can. You'll get faster service and easier returns, if needed)

    Hello Gregory, I just came across your channel while searching for useful jazz guitar help/info. I've played keyboards/organ for 40-yrs and learning guitar. My preference is jazz guitar, specifically smooth jazz. I realize at my age it's an uphill battle, but I'm hoping to at least enjoy playing within 4-5-years. I welcome any suggestions you have regarding my learning jazz. Your mods are outstanding--and not expensive either. At my age, I want to start with an inexpensive semi-hollow--I think you just sold me on which one. Ques: Do you perform your own mods? I really like the tone (Of course your specific touch is a huge factor). Thanks. Peace.

    Hello PowerForward, Well, I am no expert on playing Jazz, far from it. I would say if you can get a teacher. It is so much better to have someone who can guide you along the way, someone to show you the why's and how's of playing Jazz guitar. It's not easy and I wish I had gone to a live teacher instead of trying to get it on my own. Jazz guitar is one of the hardest forms (at least for me) of guitar to play. You can get lost in the theory alone and spend years trying to figure it all out..lol. You've gotta practice and then practice some more. But with your music experience, this may come easier for you. I've spent years all over KZread watching a million guys try to tell you how easy it is to sound like Wes Montgomery, Norman Brown, or Pat Mahecny. Believe me, it ain't that easy. Their also a lot of places online where you can take online lessons. This way cheaper than a teacher, but you miss the personal touch when you have questions. Or, you have to email your online teacher and wait a day or two before they answer you. And it still may not be the answer you need, But some are worthwhile. Well that's it for this long reply...lol. Also about modding guitars- it's fun to make a guitar your own with a few mods. I do all my own and I try to keep within my capabilites. I will say, buy the best guitar you can afford, you'll apprecaited it more in the long run. Thanks for checking out my video and for your comments...All the best.

    @@Gregabalese Thanks a million for your response. I've been told by many that jazz guitar is one of the most difficult...at my age now I have nothing to lose and hopefully a few jazz licks to gain 🙂. Be well and keep the strings strumming. ...maybe 1-day I will learn to solder so i can try some electronic upgrades. Peace.
