I’ve been playing a lot the past couple years and I’ve definitely noticed a major drop in player counts as well. Back in 2022 when I started grinding a bit the game still had a couple thousand players, then into 2023 it dropped to maybe 1.3k at most and later in the year it dropped to about what it gets now which is only up to 800 players or so. I’ve also noticed most people I used to talk to in the community are just mostly gone now and moved on to other things, seems they’ve grown up and kinda moved on and I feel like the only person actually star grinding a bit now lol.

Most of the people who grinded this game (myself included) were not adults during the games peak and now are. I'd say the wave of Hypixel players that came later are Bedwars players and eventually that'll probably face a similar fate. That's just kinda how it is. I still like the game but grinding it isn't fun imo, that's kinda how I feel with most games though. Hard to justify spending that much time on it.

@@Flufayy right. Most of the people I've talked to have moved on because of the fact they're growing up. I'm not playing as much as I was around half a year ago, though I still enjoy the game and play. I'm still young so I think over the summer I want to grind the game a bit more to get 100 star in skywars, as I'm at 75 rn so I think it's doable as long as I enjoy it and don't force myself to play I guess. Edit: enjoyed the video btw :)

8:27 I can tell you exactly why there less players on insane, it because it’s too intense and difficult to do anything because most of the time it’s some sweaty frog kit user who rushed mid stole all the chests and quick stack up the air completely harm free. I firmly believe removing the frog kit would definitely at least help the game mode

The playerbase tanked after the august 2022 update where they deleted over half the perks and made it so you can only use 6 at the same time. I feel that it had this play to win unique aspect about it where you can slowly level up yet still win games as a new player if you are skilled. Teams insane never gets games anymore, and strength and regen on kill perks are given to everyone. Strength should not be in teams, even if its only for 2 seconds. The game has been killed by removing the features that made it unique. Rip skywars

Normal mode is more popular than insane nowadays because it is way easier to play. There are less better players than insane. That is because Ranked mode was renowned for sweaty players, and when it got deleted, all the ranked mode players shifted to playing on insane mode as it was similar. And as time goes on, most insane skywars players are very experienced. That is the reason why insane is less popular nowadays.

I mean Bedwars was still putting up big numbers when all of those things were true, I think those are more long-term shifts that hurt minigame content in general as opposed to things that specifically hurt Skywars.

i feel like skywars is dying beacous old players are growing up and have less time to play and new players play it once or twice and assume its too sweaty or dont even wanna play minigame that is so old cuz of expecting it to be bad bc of its age

I would agree that it isn't designed to be popular for a decade+. Most games aren't, but the peaks of Skywars I think are what make its current state more noteworthy

i played when i was 13 and now i’m 19 coming back to it. coming back i can see why people aren’t enjoying it as much, i literally caught 5 hackers last night within an hour. scaffolding and no knockback sure are very obvious popular ones. i reported them, hypixel says they were punished but the same ones kept joining my games. it was def more fun back in 2016 :/

SkyWars is dying simply because it doesn't cater to new players like bedwars or skyblock does. Most new player play a few matches of skywars where they get probably wont even get a kill and just quit whereas in games like bedwars its team based and they can respawn and skyblock is ofcourse an entirely different gamemode but still entices new players better than skywars. Theres no real way to revive the game unless a big youtuber plays it and puts it on a big platform (which is unlikely to happen) as it is just too hard for a new playerbase who just want to have some fun and not have to practice hours of pvp just to a couple skywars matches.

I still enjoy it, but yeah I recognize it's not going to have a second golden age. It's a game that requires at least some level of skill these days (although that's not the case on several other Skywars servers), even if the core gameplay of it is more or less the same.

you’re the kind of player i hate, literally only getting kills and wins by cleaning
