The Hussite Wars

In this Czech history documentary, we'll be taking a look at the Hussite Wars, which were a series of conflicts fought between the religiously reformed Bohemians and the buzz-kill Catholics. Learn all about Jan Zizka, Sigismund of Hungary and a time period that would've been more interesting in Kingdom Come Deliverance.

Quick note on the borders of Bohemia: At the time of the Hussite Wars, Bohemia controlled a fair amount of territory to the north in Silesia, but this never really fell under Hussite control, thus I grouped it into the borders of the HRE (which it was part of) and only included Bohemia and Moravia in the borders of Hussite Bohemia.

@@HistoryHouseProductions Definitely! It takes place after HRE Charles dies and how it introduces a problem that which his son Wenceslaus as an incompitant ruler who would rather hunt, drink, and be around women. The story comes from the perspective of a peasant with high ambition who was raided by Sigismund, the son of Charles by a different mother. The main characters town, Skallitz, has a silver mine, and the hired troops of Sigismund were the savage-like Cumans who plundered villages in order to be compensated. The game overall is fun and as a History major in college, I felled in love with it and it was a great introduction to 15th century Bohemia. The video you recorded could potentially be the storyline of a potential sequel to the game, haha. Juat be prepared to devote some 150 hours of gameplay, though it could be addictive so time flies by.

As a Czech, I found all those Tahborritheh and Utrrakitheh very funny. Othervise, great video. As for the borders: you used borders of Bohemia proper and Moravia, which is OK. While the Lands of the Bohemian crown included other parts, like Egerland, Silesia and Lusitania, those were in a sort of personal union and were governed by the same guy (i.e. Bohemian king) under different title. And in those part of the "miniempire", maybe due to the significant number of German inhabitants, the whole Husitte never catched up, so those countries were usually treated as enemy territory. Even most parts of Moravia. Altough later a significant number of Silesian rulers (suzerains of the King of Bohemia) aligned themselves with the Hussite movement. Under threat of being destroyed, obviously.

Nice. This is my favorite. If you don´t know there is old movie trilogy: Jan Hus, Jan Žiška, Proti všem (againts all) First one is about whole thing about burning Jan Hus, second is from Prague defenestration to Battle of Sudomer. And final is little later with battle of Vitkov hill being final fight. Also there is upcoming film Medieval which is sad to be about hussites. However footage of film doesn´t look hopefool at all since it seem to be authentic like Battlefield 5. For example bikers pants are very popular amongs Czech and Slovak people.

Perfect pronunciation of "Jan Hus", good effort on the rest. "Utrakvisté" and "Táborité" could be transformed into "Utraquists" (as from "sub utraque", "under both", since they took both bread AND wine during masses) and "Taborites" (or even Campers, since "tábor" means "camp").
