The Hunt for Cast Iron: Madison Bouckville Antique Week

Ойын-сауық

In August of 2021, I took a road trip across New York state in search of relaxation, and cast iron. And one place I visited in the cast iron treasure hunt was the Madison Bouckville Antique Week. This event takes place outside of Syracuse in New York, and at its peak it has nearly 2,000 vendors. If you're interested in finding cast iron, or just about anything else, you certainly won't be disappointed if you take the time to head out to Syracuse for this event. (I only bought a few small pieces myself, but that's mostly because I already have a decent sized collection.)

12:05 I've got one of those old gas oven/burners combination here, made by a french maker in the 30s. Those look pretty badass and if in good state work perfectly fine!

I would have bought the #14 Iron mountain. And the Volrath lid. I scored an early 3 notch lodge at a Goodwill for $6.00 a few days ago.

Thank you for this tour. If ever I was to go to one of these events I better have my wife with me to drag me away from all that treasure.

I’ve wondered what an antique festival is like. I don’t think I could afford to shop but I would have enjoyed browsing. Thanks for sharing

Amazes me how many vendors let their cast iron get (and stay!) wet... even if we get caught with our pants down, we make sure to dry pans off post-haste! We sold at this show, it rained alot, but we prepared. Water is cast iron's worst enemy!

Last year was the heaviest rain they'd ever seen at Bouckville, unless this year matched it...though I hope it diidn't. It rained *all* week and turned the entire place into a mud bath. By Saturday most of the vendors, who hadn't given up and left, had pretty much resigned to their items getting wet, no matter what they did. I heard one guy exclaim, "Special rainy day sale! Same price, only wet."

I should have known these existed but I really didn’t. We love antiques, we’ll have to see if something similar is in our area. Are you going on Mr Cast Iron’s Live chat tonight? Hope you’re doing well. Kindly, Theresa & Cam

I’m glad that you enjoyed the festival; I enjoyed the video of it. Who made the gem pan shown at the 14:53 mark and what does it make? The pan with 11 oblong shallow molds, sitting on edge of table behind the ax handle. Also I spotted a “mini” that was advertising a local business in my hometown. It was one of the BSR mini; I have one like it. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. See you next Wednesday. Hello to J-ME. Hope you can tell me about that gem pan ….Dan

I have one like it. 12" long, with each mold a little over 3" by 2.25". Raised # 8 on the underside of one handle. Never cooked in it, tho cornnbread should work.

I just watched another of your video's where you found an aluminum Griswold roaster. i have an aluminum flat skillet that i found at a flea market and because it was not the cast iron that everyone looks for I got it very reasonable. I was not sure until I saw your earlier video what the materiel was. Now I wonder how well it works as opposed to cast iron. i cleaned it but have never used it and wonder if it actually has value, if I was to try to sell it. I have my mothers cast iron skillets that I use on a regular basis and treasure. None of them are Griswold but I am going to use your videos to try to identify their makers. She and Dad got married in 1938 and the pans were wedding presents. I really enjoyed the trip through the market with you, from the ease of my recliner. Thanks a bunch.

those CI waffle makers must be rare as hell, only noticed one this video. its really the only thing i'm still interested in purchasing because i have a suitable amount of cast iron pans to cover all my meals.

On a bit of a personal note... can you explain a bit more in your symbolism you use? From your pendant around your neck to the symbol in the ending credits. It appears to be Wiccan or even Hindi , but nothing I've found so far matches. Would love a full explanation.
