Unusual film for the period. I was ready to dismiss it as a B movie and then it surprised me. Orloff's servant dances a fine line between campy and treacherous. The movie could have dispensed with the American but I guess he served as the foil. Orloff's institution is really creepy and the scene with the immobile man is truly horrifying.

The American cop character was useless. It is more adapted to a 3 Stooges film.

Lugosi reached his zenith as a totally evil character in this film, released as Dark Eyes Of London, in England.
Awesome performance by Lugosi, absolutely one of my favorites. BELA LUGOSI LIVES...!!!
I'm so glad that whoever you are, that you have these older movies on here to show. I like them 100 percent better than any new movie. Thank you so very much for showing them.
Bela Lugosi had that magnificent evil eye, someone who really knew the evil eye. This is a delightful film for many reasons. The blind benefited the story line perfectly with brilliant supporting roles. It was so great with the river and the Dr. Orloff staff, we even had the glass ware and electric machines as in Frankenstein. So it all was perfect entertainment. A monster mystery. Thank You.
Love Bela Lugosi. Thanks for the movie.

Wow, I just watched "The Invisible Ghost" today with Bela Lugosi and now, "The Human Monster" pops up I also learned today that Bela's name is pronounced, "Ba-la". Thanks for the movie.

There are four amazing ones with Karloff and Bela "Black Cat" and "The Raven" are two of my favorites. You can get the four pack on DVD. Doubt you can watch them for free on utube.

Many thanks for one I have never seen before. What a treat to find today. A true classic.
Fantastic movie, bela at his best. Thank you for putting up this film.
Definitely an underrated horror classic; Bela Lugosi as one of his most devious characters (aside from the ones who turn into bats, command zombies, or have broken necks!), a great 'monster' with Jake the goon, and a lot of great classic gothic atmosphere.

I looked up the actor who played Jake. Very handsome man w/o all the makeup and wig. His name was Wilfred Walter.
Oh yes! 👍🏻❤️

Outstanding choice. Thanks again..😊😊
Edgar Wallace wrote some fantastic stories in his time & this is definitely one of his best. One can only speculate how creepy this film was when it first came out...

I agree. The horrible thing is that conditions in asylums really were that bad.
I can see him as a philosophy teacher. Thanks PF for the piece of gold😊
*THX* PizzaFlix for this surprisingly never before seen *Little Gem....* whose sinuous suspense definitely overshadowed the often typically "jocular" humor repetitiveness of so many 1930s film scripts =👌 As this nefarious plot progressed, I became increasingly "urged" to ponder exactly WHO was *_"The Human Monster"....._* 😮 A Definitively English "cheerio" ending, much on par with the earlier, classic American Universal Studios Horror genre.

According to a recent DVD of the film, it is STILL not recommended for children. I recall that I saw it on a big screen when I was about 6 years old. It was the first monster movie that really bothered me.
I love this kinda beginning!
Great movie, fun, suspenseful and a bit of a thriller. Like the addition of the American as comic relief
underrated gem with the icon, Bela

Thanks Abigail 🍕but since it’s the first one let’s get the series name right 🍕Classic Movie Monday 🍕
Lagosi wasn't wanted for the movie Dracula, because of his heavy accent, lol, the producers offered the part to many popular actors, but back then they called these creature films and was considered cheesy, lagosi wrote letters to the producers begging for the part, finally they caved when others turned it down, knowing how much he wanted the part they used that as leverage against him to pay him less than everyone else, the rest is history, "Velcome to my castle".
Bela is EVIL as heck in this movie. It's unnerving.
Pretty good movie.
One of my favorities is "The Devil Commands". Can't find it anywhere.

H ugh Williams was the father of Simon(Upstairs,Downstairs)Williams.
Same pot at Ed Wood, Jr.'s Bride of the Monster.
Pretty good flick! I was impressed by the makeup job on Wilfred Walter ("Jake"), as he was fairly good looking and also a Shakespearean actor.

Belated Lugosi was good in this film, but his Dracula from 1931 was his best effort, IMO.

Those poor policewomen having to wear a hat like that!! It's dreadful.
Pretty interesting movie, except for the annoying American detective. His role was 1000 percent pointless.
