***** Sorry, I meant all of those bands did state Kraftwerk as influence, but I don't believe they were honest. When they started they were punk with electronic core and rhythm machines or electronic drums - and were revolutionary, unlike Kraftwerk, which albums were never considered revolutionary in the press when released. This is my own opinion, when I heard Radioactivity LP in 1976 I almost fell asleep. When I heard Boys and Girls I was blown away. But why always emphasize Kraftwerk - this is like saying that 1000 bands are influenced by Byrds or other 1000 by Doors etc. Some people think that mentioning Can or Faust or Neu is a sign of big knowledge. I may be a little stupid, but why then not a single German new wave act wasn't into them but into British new wave?

Hi! Just read your post on Being Boiled by The Human League. Yes, synthie-pop made it´s first steps in the early 70ies. German Band "Kraftwerk" had much influence on this developement. A lot of bands like THL or OMD say, that they were influenced by Kraftwerk. A milestone "Wir sind die Roboter" (´We are the robots"). Their greatest hit "Das Model". Greetings from Munich, Germany.

Moroder had proper studio to work in with a whole host of equipment to work with, Human league built some of their first synths from scratch themselves from kit form, Martyn Ware had to chose between learning to drive or buying a synth, he bought the synth and he still doesn't drive to this day. Finally it's two different types of music Moroder was dance music with the same few words repeated throughout the music Human League were more industrial Avant-garde with meaningful lyrics.

+Boris Rangelov Going back to my origianl comment "We had simply never heard a sound like it before". Human League never sounded the same as Kraftwerk - but both bands are amazing and influential.
The hair is incredible the music beyond. I love it. So fucking ahead of its time.
Ich habe den Song damals öfter in Diskotheken gehört, sowas vergisst man nicht mehr.
Loved these songs
44 years ago, great electronica and a protest against sericulture. Come on, so visionary.
Marvelous. It´s a classic. The best Human League before the commercial phase.
78 bloody hell
Heard this on 6 music today and had to listen to it again! It's bloody amazing, from a future that might have been. 🤖👾
I was 16 when this was released. It captivated me. It was a call to a new age.
I had never heard or seen this song performed, nor heard of it, until reading Sweet Dreams by Dylan Jones. Such a wealth of knowledge and all told by those who were there. Highly recommeded!
Úžasné
Ciao, buona giornata, buona sera. Ero 1978. Si, fantastico. Buonissima elettronica tracce. Meravigliosa sintezza. Sublimi accorda. Bel voce. Cin cin. Ringraziatante. Antonio Jacqui Lucia. Ae. Ifach. Gescom. The Fall. 🎶🎵😂🎼🎹👌😎😁🍓🍋🍊🤣🍎😴💕❤️🍐🍍☔
Saw the HL at Eric's in Liverpool in 1979 after following the punk movement. Really different to the usual bands though great. Also loved their pop records on Dare.
I mean really, how freaking cool was Phil Oakey? This is 1978!!
I fell in love with him and his hair.
Saw them around this time playing in a meeting room at Sheffield University Students Union with Thunderbirds and comic book slides projected onto a small screen. Think they played the now disgraced Gary Glitter song Rock and Roll Part 1 as an encore. Still got and play the Fast Records single. This is a superb live version with of course the late great Tony Wilson at the end...always ahead of the game. Thanks
Wow brilliant, i was 10 going on 11. Phil still sounds great now if not better. Thanks for posting this :)
'Listen to the voice of Buddha, saying stop your sericulture.............'Absolutely immense track on a Roland Jupiter (though I also recommend playing through a Novation mininova, pick one up for £250 and form your own League people!)

A whopping Jup 4. I swear, every note that pops out of that thing is instant Human League, and other early '80s Synth-Sound. For me, it's like a time machine...

depeche, numan and human league all did wonders with the JP4
This 100% fully wonderful & successful music in this vid.
I do enjoy the sheer musical bravery evidenced here. Synth and vocals only...the warmth of those synths and Phil's vocals catching the mood perfectly. The greatness achieved lives on. Sparsity, when done this well is always a statement - Psycho Killer, and latterly Seven Nation Army - thinks, reflects, enjoys...

What?
Nothing wrong with Punk music, one of the best genres out there and still is around with loads of Punk bands around. Don't forgot, this style did not last very long, as it was replaced with the commercial vocal sound. I much prefer this style
Great lyrics
If ever a biopic is made on Phil Oakey, I imagine Keanu Reeves playing him. He would be perfect for it.

Greetings from Munich, Germany.
wow I remember this .!! My brother said they were the future.(pre human league) never gave them a second thought till rock n roll came out!!! Just remember phil looking odd with hair uneven!!
Excellent!
I rember seeing this back then when local TV was local TV
People were still saying punk was the future in 1978, but this was the start of a far bigger musical revolution that sent punk to its graveyard in 1980 and was the most popular form of British music in the early 80s.

ebbhead20 The music can still be played but the moment has gone. Punk was not just about the music. It's the attitude that is dead. It died quickly and quite rightly. It had to.

has just beginning.. ? wtf is that for a sentence ? Well, anyway, he is right, punk died out around 1980 when the whole new wave scene blew up.. so no faults here.

@80selectro Pre Dare and Post Dare is ALL amazing. The Human League ALWAYS!
Unbelieveable awesome!!
Programme is called "So It Goes".
@supadoh I'm talking about the first synth close up at 0:30. Its a Roland Jupiter 4, underrated an less advanced than J8, but better in terms of its unique sound IMHO.. I was not talking about that Roland System 100 that appears later.
So glad this isn't lip-synched!
Imagine being in 1978 and hearing this for the first time....

So awesome!
I like this version, synth reminds me of Rambo C64 music😊
Pure symthiepop 👍
59 now. Still sounds brilliant. Still haven't a clue about the lyrics.

Ian Crack Marsh and PhilOkey revolutionizing music as we kno it!!
Wow, first time I've seen and heard this version. They've released so many versions of this song :-) love it. Thank you for uploading this. Theres so much TV gold thats been lost simply because the tech wasn't available to store it back in the day. Thankfully that doesn't apply with audio.
Got to love the Jupiter 4...

Had a couple of Jupiter 4s back when you could get them for nothing .....today they` re pretty expensive !!
Für mich ein Klassiker der elektronischen Musik. Diese Tv Aufnahme ist stellenweise etwas anders als die Vinyl Version. Vielen Dank für das Hochladen von dem Video :))
Cool song
THX!
Looks just a tad like Bryan Ferry there to me..... The 70s were brilliant - from prog, through disco, punk and new wave. That decade had just about everything.

WOW ! Ich dachte das Lied wäre aus den 80ger ! Doch schon sooooooo alt !

So good trend setter song, started all the good stuff//Lars Sweden
That mini moog….
Granada TV clips have been a large part of making You Tube great.
"Listen the voice Buddha, saying are you serious with that mustache???"
I agree. And I now find myself having to re-evaluate the band, seeing that all I thought of them was those who brought us "don't you want me". A fine track, but still nowhere this original.
LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF BUDDHA pure genius
This was unique. Preferred this to the later day stuff : Don't you want me crap.
Human League !!!!!!!!
Awesome
this gave the inspiration to tim simenon to make great music
saw them at leeds Uni in 78.
Woow sounds more electro than synth pop, problably one of my favorites from them.
It was great and I don't want to diasagree but don't dismiss early Ultravox! The John Foxx Set up were way ahead of their time. Systems of Romance from the same year was groundbreaking and their earlier albums with electric violin and home made synths were awesome. Search youtube for Ha!Ha1Ha! & Ultravox!
You can't compare a studio album with a live performance... Facepalm!
