The How-To of Black Background Horse Photography (No Lights Required!) | Theory + Full Edit

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

How do you do black background horse photography if you don't own any studio lights?! Look no further. With the help of Jo from Wildair Portraits, we've broken down black background equestrian photography into a tutorial of how to actually get these photographs and then how to do a black background edit in Photoshop too (thanks Jo!).
Equine photography is an art form, so take your time to set up the shots correctly, capture the horse in their best possible poses, and edit them with care and finesse.

    just watching this - but as you were saying if there is hard sun light - it will create a bright photo or create hard lines on the horse. in the example you diffused the light - but how would one diffuse the light in an actual hard sun light situation? large scrims? many thanks

  • @ThatPhotographySpot

    @ThatPhotographySpot

    3 жыл бұрын

    Most technical but correct answer would be large scrims, but with horses that is a little risky because they may spook, increasing the risk factor of the session. Basic answer would be wait or reschedule for a day with forecast cloud. Meeting in the middle on the basis there is no darker/shaded area, and scrims aren't an option: Place the horse further into the shed/barn to avoid harsh light on them - this may increase the amount of masking and clean-up required, but it's often the only way when you're out in the field and you have to work with what you've got 🤓
