The Horseman of Mount Everest: Life of A Special Sherpa | Full Documentary
Gurmen, a sherpa known for his high-altitude skills, lives in Nepal's Himalayan valleys at 4,000 metres. Every day, he must contend with the dangers of the mountain and its risky environment. He has a brave plan to acquire a trained horse and hire it to visitors, as he hopes of a brighter future.
He must first travel across the nation, purchase a horse named Karma, and return it in good health to his community. Karma and Gurmen encounter individuals who live, work, and explore at high elevations, where mistakes and mishaps can have major repercussions, along their journey. We learn about the exceptional fate of a man who has profited from the hiking and tourist industry in this part of Nepal thanks to his ambitious attitude.

Wonderful documentary! The film-maker portrays Gurmen, the Sherpas and the Buddhist culture with extraordinary sensitivity and respect. The Sherpas are among the toughest people in the world and their concern for fellow human beings as well as animals stands out. I wish the best for Gurmen and his lovely family.

Well done, however when I first began living and working in the Langtang and Khumbu regions in the late-90s there were horses (not to be confused with the donkeys and mules that were also already there) that were hired by tourists for both carrying gear as well as riding. Still, this is a well-done documentary.

Between the horse and the donkey is the crossbreed sterile hybrid, the mule. As we go from horse to mule to mammoth donkey (donks come in all sizes) we find an increase in intelligence, longevity and a great increase in caution, AKA, stubbornness. As the handler proves his trustworthiness to the animal, the animal's trust increases. That is why the high Andes are now often patrolled by mules, on the high border between Chile and Argentina. As for Icelandic horses, for the last 800 years if they were not sure-footed, well tempered, strong, fast, thrifty keepers, and smooth riders, they were eaten. This bred a compact, fast, smooth, strong, thrifty horse, ideal for this work. If I could drop 50 years from my body, I would breed Icelandic mares to Mammoth Jacks (big donkeys), and just as Geo. Washington and Henry Clay did in our own land 250 years ago, a Mule industry would be born in the Himalaya. Domesticating and hybridizing the Tibetan Kiang would be an very worthy consideration for the future of these people. If it is successful, call the offspring a "King Mule!"

I think it’s cos they’re reshowing an old documentary like, cos this channel is part of a group of channels containing documentaries going as far back as the 90s at least, some I think are even from the 80s, it’s mainly what I sometimes call a “stock documentary” site, cos it looks like those documentary databases people use to sell films to broadcasters (sometimes even selling them to people who quite appallingly edit them to fit an agenda, happened with Attenborough’s Life of Mammals by the BBC in the Netherlands, where it gold sold to an evangelical channel, Attenborough went ballistic and the BBC pulled it from Dutch showings (they removed all references to evolution, Attenborough is a staunch anti-creationist)), so this is probably a very old documentary that they don’t even show on television, let alone streaming sites, it’s probably why it’s on here
