The HORROR Yard RESTORATION Continues...!

Ойын-сауық

So some of you will probably remember this property because I've already done 4 episodes here. Back then I decided not to clean up the backyard and some of the front as it was just too crazy. Well, I've had a change of heart, and I'm back to finish off the whole lot. And when I say this yard is crazy, i mean CRAZY! It's full of blackberries, rubbish, old trees and what's left of the garden beds. To get this property back up to scratch, I would say it going to be quite a few episodes. I'm going to do the best I can here, as the homeowner really needs the help. I'm also going to go back over the work I've done, as I could have done better! I hope you enjoy the episode and stay tuned for the biggest transformation I've ever done - What a challenge! All up, I spent around 11.5 hours on this job, including 3 trips to the landfill. This is episode 5 of who knows how many episodes.

FAQ's:
Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs. But most of my recent jobs have been done for free.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.

WOW!!! Wow, wow, wow!!! Very well done, George! It's easy to see why it is that you prefer to work alone, you're a perfectionist, and it's always hard to find another perfectionist that would know exactly how you like things done. Working alone, one simply knows that the job can only be done to one's own standards. This job was amazingly done, and a joy for us viewers to watch. Thank you for making this Saturday morning so nice to wake up to!

Do the blackberry bushes grow wild? I have other channels I watch, and they are also overwhelmed with the things. I can't imagine why someone would plant them and then let them get so out of hand. Great job per usual. Thanks for posting.

Great job! I'm curious what the building in the backyard is, or was, used/built for. I was thinking it was a covered outdoor patio, but it's seems to be more than that. I would love to have something like that for a chicken coop! 😆

You once again did a beautiful job. Question: I notice nearly all yards in Australia have clotheslines, here in the USA everyone has a dryer. In the 50’s everyone had a clothesline. And now hardly anyone has one. Is there there a reason why they are still using them there?

Incredible job George. I have cleared out old blackberries and it is not an easy job. Here in Canada the blackberries root deeply and spread quickly by runners, so you have to use a shovel to dig down to uproot them or they just sprout again in weeks. How do you prevent them returning in Tasmania??
