Regardless of the state of among us: the game the fact that this game exists will likely uncontrollably change my view on everything that involves a smaller rounded shape being composited within a larger shape. It's not even a meme. It's a curse, and it'll never go away.

One of their biggest mistakes is not making the change from quick chat to free chat easy and accesible. If you were old enough, changing back to free chat was very possible, but no one knew how to do it because it was tucked away in the setting. What a shame. I love this game and it got me and my friends through so much pandemic crap.

I find it funny that Among Us got insanely popular and for a good long time, then fell to irrelevancy and is only used miraculously and ironically. I'm glad Fall Guys got popular again, I feel like Among Us wasn't the main reason for Fall Guys's initial death, it was the incompetence and instability, but I'm happy it's getting back to it's great fashion.

They have also added achievements, levels, 4 new roles, unlockable cosmetics, more colors, and the ability to play with up to 15 players. It's still an incredibly fun game, more so now than ever. The hurdle of finding a group to play to tough though.

Yeah, and all that took multiple years. The new map took like two or three years just to develop and it’s pretty bad designed again. It looks nice but it’s layout is terrible.

To be honest, I think it is extremely stupid that people started judging this game because of the unfunny memes. Sure, a lot of people started hating it because of the bad updates, but it's been judged so much because of the unfunny memes. But Among Us VR is coming out soon, so maybe someday Among Us and Fall Guys will be together in harmony.

I think the long updates is the problem the game lost interest. If these new features came earlier, perhaps Among Us would be still popular or at least relevant. But they came out when Among Us became very unpopular. Oh cool, a friend list, for a game no one is playing. I still have hope for the game with the whole VR experience coming soon. I’m still am quite an avid fan of Among Us, but yeah, right now the game’s status looks quite bleak.

They didn't put enough when you think about it. Why couldn't they expand their team? I agree quick chat was a mistake, but it could of easily been taken care of even if they had to resort to just removing it until they found a better way to implement it. My point is they had a good concept for a game, sure- but the effort afterwards was lackluster and should come to no surprise why the game died.

They should of just used a profanity filter and mute option like normal devs would. You do know how rediculous it sounds when people say "it's to stop toxicity" right? What game has successfully done that? Thats like asking people to stop bullying- people don't care in the first place, and because they failed to realize that they made the drastic decision to basicslly make the game unplayable for people 18+.

I knew it. My bet was that Fall Guys would be more popular in the long term, and Among Us was a huge fad but without what's necessary to last for years and years. Even when Fall Guys basically disappeared, I believed they would come back, especially now with Nintendo.

I remember playing this game when it was popular in countries like brazil back in 2018 Not as many dumb players as today Easy to join servers No hackers(free clothing and maps don't count) People actually took their time to investigate And hype was big when they announced a new map (maps and clothing were paid though) Sad to see the state of it nowdays, especially this quick chat bs

I have genuinely tried to play public lobbies in among us, but they are practically unplayable. The settings are always awful, half of the lobby leaves at the start of the game, and barely anybody chats.

I'm one of the few people that really miss this game and how fun it was in 2020, I was super good at it and won almost every match as impostor. As someone who recently revisited the game and played at its popularity spike well into summer of 2021, The game got ruined by bad updates (Airship ruins the meta of the game, 15 players is too many, quick chat was really stupid, the art style update looks ugly, the cosmicubes are more like back pains than news ways to unlock cosmetics, and I didn't find the new roles to change the game in a good way) and online with randoms was filled with unfunny sus among us jokes, people that cheat, or people who are straight up annoying and stupid and it was really hard to find a good group of randoms that are fun to play with, but once you did oh boy was it fun, and the game just easily got old after a while. I really hope this game gets back on its feet when the VR version comes out and it will be like late 2020 again. Edit: Grammar

The only roles I have experienced are Shapeshifter and Angel. The Angel is a pretty neat feature, but the Shapeshifter is ridiculously overpowered. Anybody can suddenly kill anyone else and you don’t have a clue of if the killer was the real person or not, so not only does it take all of the skill out of imposter but makes it extremely difficult for crewmates to win that way

Among us is just a worse game of werewolf. If you play in a public lobby you only get 5 year olds who can only read the word "sus"

Shapeshifter isnt so op if you’re playing with a smart group of people on discord. All it takes is for u not to be accounted for and boom you’re found suspicious for the rest of the game. I’ve played games when the shapeshifter didn’t even use their abilities because it was too risky.

Bruh if you're afraid of ss in amongus then you have either a lobby that has a general IQ of 68 or the fact that you aren't able to read whether a kill is obvious or not, either way shapeshifter makes the game more challenging and interesting and the truth is without it's addition people would have easily gotten bored of the same old shtick and moved on from the game

Honestly, I still play it every few days and for hours at a time. The thing is, I use a Discord server that is often very active and typically has multiple lobbies full and sometimes in huge amounts. I don't think that Among Us is "dead" yet due to the fact there still is a fairly active player base regardless and it is still a fair bit bigger than earlier. P.S: Everyone seems to forget the fact it is managed by a really small dev team and the most recent update wasn't just a couple QoL changes, but also a mountain of bugfixes that they admitted they wanted to deal with before they got back to getting bigger stuff out. People just need to be patient.

Small dev or not, the developers ruined their own game, and they know it.

I miss what Among Us should've been. If you were playing with a close friend group, or watching a streamer do the same, it was legitimately fun. But, because of the game surging in popularity, the memes did too, and the backlash from the awful memes resulted in equal backlash to the actually quality game. It really is a tragedy, tbh. I almost wish it stayed a small indie game, just so that I could still play it with my friends without being called cringe or lame. Rest in peace, Among Us. Rest in peace.

I feel like mods are much better to play instead of the base game, The Other Roles has a discord where you can join lobbies so you can play modded without needing friends which is fun, and not to mention all the roles it adds, I feel like it is just superior to the actual game.

I had some fun playing AU back in 2020, but 30ish hours was more than enough for me. And once my friends lost interest I could never get enough people to play with

Fall Guys: The tables have turned. We are the better game now!

I play among us to this day and I enjoy it. I only play an hour maximum because then it gets boring. Among us is a type of games that need to be updated frequently. Among us is updated but every update is small or they add something we dont need like quickchat.

Honestly if they added consistent updates it would be able to survive not boom in popularity because tbh it will never ever get to that height again but the game would still stay afloat however due to the small team its not gonna happen so most likely vr will boost it a bit but give it a year or 2 and among us will be no more

the update that made among us lose popularity when the safe chat update came out where you could no longer type in chat and there was fixed things that you could only select to send and thats how it became harder to explain to other players.im not saying its the only thing that made among us die but its one of them

5:59 I work with games from time to time as a passion project and Among Us sounds like it desperately needs a rewrite, not a sequel. Among Us 2 was just to generate hype, what they should've done is announce a rewrite, and it'd probably be finished in a few months - a year and a half, which may sound like a lot of time, but this can be worked on in the background, and they can keep on making new updates. (just slower) Hell, with how much bank they must've been making they could've hired an entire team to rewrite the game and another team to work on patches.

Funny to see these games go back and forth. Id rather fall guys be the popular one

After quick chat was released everything went down hill, if you weren’t old enough you couldn’t use normal chat, the game thrived on communication and a robot cutting into it didn’t help the game.

I feel like Innersloth doesn't really know how to maintain a game like Among Us well. When they complained about how Fortnite copied their game, then went practically back to normal after adding a crossover to the game, I sort of cringed at that. Not because of the fact that Epic Games just practically made a deal with them, but because of the fact that Innersloth just thinks that they can do whatever they want with Among Us just because it's iconic. Instead of focusing on their time with the actual game itself, they were quite slow with their updates, made a founders edition for the game which I don't think anyone will buy unironically as it was just a five dollar game and they presented some content in the game such as the friends list and Among Us VR WAY too late. They still are a small team, they shouldn't really focus on merch and crap imo as they are just taking advantage of the popularity of the game without really expanding the longevity and lifetime of the game itself. Some people are claiming that Among Us VR will revive the series. I really don't think that's the case in my opinion as more people actually care about the base game rather than some other game that most people can't even access due to not owning VR. There were already games that people made around that and while it is fun, it's not bringing anything new to the table to the actual series. A few people may like it, but it's nothing special that will bring millions of players back into the game. They are FAR too late with bringing a new map, they still haven't made it and focused their time on bringing microtransactions, crossovers, etc. when most people care about the main content that the game can have. This might be controversial but I don't really want a founders edition for a game and wear an Among Us beanie unironically from buying it, that's for the 1% of players who will buy it, they probably know that and only did it to get money anyway. The replies for their update posts on steam for the game are quite messy and it just seems like the devs are blinded by criticism as any feedback they receive is from kids who would say "sus" or "amogus." Just look at them and you would see what I mean by this. The problem isn't quick chat as they already fixed it, but the fact that the devs have no idea what to do next with the game, and when they made a move, they weren't really thinking about what they were doing and just thought it was a good idea because it seems "cool" or "neat."' The game isn't "dead," it's still active like any other game, but it just isn't the same with 90% of the players being horny and the roles of scientists, guardian, etc. They don't know what should belong in the game in terms of its mechanics, and instead add stuff that are considered to be mod material and people just are fine with that because the game is iconic and "sus is funny." It's so hard to find a good normal lobby with no roles, none of that bs that I think that was the reason why most people moved on along with the lack of updates and support.

I kinda don’t really like the roles either. I think they should add more lore to the game which I feel like would make the game more scary since it’s kinda like a horror game too

I do think it needs to be said that Among Us had a development team of, like, 3 people. I don't know if they expanded at all but that combined with the difficulty of the game's development are good explanations on why updates are so slow

I always thought the Henry Stickmin games were what made among us popular. The characters from among us appeared in that game series, and they were made by the same developers.

Aside from quick chat, bugs that the new updates bought and the problems presented in this video, i think part of the demise of among us was the lack of updates, but not only that, since seasonal games appeared back in 2017, updates have become something fully necessary to keep a game alive, some people have gotten used to montly and weekly updates instead of periodic updates, such as cases like gd, and not all the people, but a specific group of people think that all the games depends of updates instead of the actual game itself

I feel like the main reason that the game started to die off is also the same reason why it grew so popular in 2020, the pandemic. When the pandemic hit and people were staying at home, they had a lot more time to play games, and seeing those big streamers play this game got them to want to play it, and with so much free time to do so, it just blew up. Now fast forward to the beginning of 2021 and now 2022, people are able to go out and live fairly normal lives again, meaning that these former Among Us gamers are now going out and "touching grass" It's just a case of Among Us being the thing that kept us entertained while we were stuck at home, now that we're allowed to go outside and be with friends IRL again, we don't really need it anymore. I do see the VR version bringing a lot of people back though. That seems cool.

Gotta also give some props to all the creative mods of among us. I’ve played town of us and while it can have a learning curve, with enthusiastic players it can be a blast!

Among Us died because of that ONE update where you had to give your date of birth and if you were below 18 had to use quick chat which was SUPER annoying to a lot of people. Because their target audience was mainly children, those kids got pissed and complained they couldn't use chat, and eventually quit the game. It also got pretty boring after a while as well. Inner Sloth was WAY too slow to come out with updates. They should have known that to keep a game alive you have to update every month or so. I honestly didn't enjoy the same two roles of crewmate and impostor, and the same old tasks were also boring as well. ALSO the e-daters and stuff like that were a HUGE nuisance to everything because you'd just be playing when some dude named "Hxrny 14 boy" would join the game and start asking for people's Snap.

I think Among Us did what it needed to do and did well for how small its team was/is. Among Us did something lots of other games never could. Bring KZreadrs of all different kinds together. People you would never think might make a video together. So I'd say it did very well for what it was worth. This game wont be forgotten any time soon

As a person who made a series about Among Us, what happen was that the game is getting VERY unpopular because of the updates, Quick Chat, Roles, and more.

Among us was way better back before it had it's major peak, nice people, fun games, and all nighters! But now it's filled with bad players, rude people, and basically is just not fun anymore

It's kinda good to see how these 2 games are going years after they both released. They are pretty much competitors at this point

Among Us is fun, don’t get me wrong. I love among us. I understand the team behind among us is small, but I know among us still has potential. With the VR coming along, which looks beautiful btw, I think it will help a lot. I mean, I could make my own video giving out some ideas on among us updates. I have been planning a similar one about Tomodachi life and how a sequel would be great, and what to implement into it. Idk XDD

Everything was fine but then they added the email accounts and parental policy and quick chat where you couldn't chat normally most of the time.

A story mode for among us with different endings based on the roles would be interesting

I'll be honest, i only really played the game with friends on discord and it was pretty fun actually, but as time went on i stopped playing the game and started playing different games, i guess the one thing that made Among Us less popular than it used to be was that COVID was everywhere during 2020 and people used Among Us and Discord to talk to their friends.

Although Among Us has its flaws it still works and is very fun to play. The only thing that is really bad are hackers. They can get in easier and disrupt and destroy your game.

my friend can’t actually play amongus because 2 hackers somehow got into his friend list and every single time he gets on they spam group invites to him, so many that its very annoying, theyre names are like “clash royale” and “hudinger” weird

The new updates in Among Us (Updates after the addition of Airship) destroyed the game.

I came back to the game like a week ago and the game is still alive (kinda) lobbys get full pretty fast (in some maps) and some new featureas they added are cool(from when I stopped playing in 2020) but I hate microtransactions they added,they are fully cosmetical but I love how 80% cosmetics are available after some time

I feel like if among us did make a new game like it would probably get popularity very quickly it’s easier said than done but it would at least revive the genre

I think what killed the game was the fact they made people unable to use free chat. the addition itself of quick chat is fine, but when you lock people into using quick chat, that's a problem.

Im pretty sure the only reason i remember it exsits is because my cousins just love to repeat jokes over and over. So even though the memes for among us are shrinking, they keep making jokes about it over and over and over.

I remember playing among us in 2019 and seeing gameplays in 2018, i thought the game was pretty popular back then. I only stoped playing the game because it became unplayable, whenever I try to enter a server that speaks portuguese, for some reason it enters an english server

Personally I like Goose Goose Duck more. It's similar to Among us except the game has been a lot better update and play wise. The game has built in proximity chat, and several game modes and roles. I find it more replayable than Among us.

I quit Among Us after they removed free chat. Even though I was 20 at the time, the game wouldn’t let me enable free chat, I soon learned this was due to a bug when they implemented the account system that caused anyone who created an account on iPad on that and the following version, regardless of age, to not be able to chat. Even after I managed to squeeze into the at the time impossible to get into Discord Server, and asking the devs in the last I looked, now removed Help section, to fix it, they said they knew of the issue and did not have it as a priority to fix. 2 updates went by and they never fixed it. That is when I asked when they had planned to fixed the issue, and not only did I not get a response. I was banned from their Discord with no given reason or warning. I quit the game before the issue was ever fixed, but when I went back to it I looked it up and apparently the issue was not fixed for over 7 updates. This was over 6 months AFTER Airship was released for a timeframe. The fact that they didn’t fix such a gargantuan bug, and the devs banned me for asking when such a gargantuan bug was going to be addressed just solidified the fact that Innersloth is nothing more than a shithole greedy incompetent gaming studio ran by ignorant devs. I’m legitimately glad that the game died. When the VR version comes out, I will play it, but it will be pirated. I will never give a single dollar to that shithole gaming studio ever again. My money is for studios that deserve it like Team Cherry or PlayDead. I hope future game devs take Among Us as a lesson on what to NOT do with your game.

The fact that Among Us is already starting to get nostalgic.

Me and my friends quit among us long time ago we all mostly quit because of the quick chat. It just ruined the game for mobile players and was not convenient at all. Also less people started playing and it got boring because it was hard for imposters to win. It was the same concept every game. Eventually everybody quit the game and is dead. I don’t think among us will make a comeback or be revived but I could be wrong. They haven’t done anything for a long time so among us is probably not returning.

My theory is that whenever a game explodes in popularity like out of nowhere so they release updates whenever the game is dying down. Like poppy playtime they release a chapter whenever speedruns stop and theories stop. So among us did that so you are telling me in took them 7 months to release the airship and in December 2020 leakers found it was already done so what is the 3 months did you do.

There are also some severe server issues on some regions in among us I can't play among us because each time I try to play I just get disconnected

I think an underrated issue comes from the streamers themselves. People see streamer one million IQ plays and play the game expecting that, but they don't have enough friends who want to play at the same time. They join a random lobby and have a random 12 year old accuse them of venting randomly, suddenly the game isn't so fun anymore.

They should add more roles to the game like the ones in the games that OTV and friends play (jester, sheriff, impostor roles etc.). Then kids wont quit immediately after getting crewmate.

They added 4 roles in my opinion were kinda bad except for Shapeshifter and Engineer. They we’re planning on adding sheriff but removed it which sucks.

My encouraging feedback to Innersloth: When you are going to update the game, find a way to make the update interesting enough for more players to enjoy. Think simple and effective.

I think people forget to relise that the game is hella indie, more indie then fall guys as it was made by 3 people originaly so most of the updates now are just fixing as much of the code as possible as again 3 people 2 artist and 1 coder now they have more people on board but i am sure the main work is still done by the 3 original people. So i am happy to wait for updates as i love this more still indie project then the big triple a team that fall guys became.

I think the reason why among us isn't updating is that the dev's are working on among us vr.

well Among Us is just a simple game where you can interact with friends online and make memes like you make dead body reports. at this point I'm not surprised it's dying. really all you do in that game is running around doing tasks while dying and blaming a crewmate off the ship. that's it.

I think if they made the maps randomly generated every time you play, it would of been better than the same map layout every time. Also, they should of added the option to switch maps in the same lobby instead of having to create a new one.

The only think that keeps me from absolute quitting is friend list and fun matches

Okay, imagine this: You create a game, a unique one let's say, something that people never saw until that point. The gameplay revolves around strategy, inteligence but most importantly: comunication. However, by adding the quick chat menu, you basically restrict players from comunicating. If all the voice chat apps were to disappear, Among us would instantly die due to the most useless and annoying and shitty feature "Quick Chat" which has been added for player who are under a certain age. Wtf? Harrassing and bullying on Among us? You could rather add a mute button. This is the most useless feature ever and the one that probably ruined the game. Moreover, the new account system makes a lot of sense. However (as expected) it doesn't work. One day I was casually playing with my account confirmed and the next day I was required to confirm it again. That was a month ago, and even today after so much time I still haven't received any emails (I pressed the "resend email" button every day, changed the emails, made new accs).

I feel like the biggest thing holding back Among Us really is the lack of Roles and the Devs seemingly focusing on the wrong stuff. Most of the big streamer groups who still play Among Us rn like ChilledChaos' The Derp Crew use Role Mods like The other roles and Town of Us and for some reason Innersloth is choosing to drag their feet with it and focus on other things like accounts? I get the whole CosmicCube thing, The mobile version is Free so they need to make money somehow. But the fact they have only added 4 Roles and Seemingly really aren't planning to add more immediately is what's killing the game. The hype around like a new role every month or something like that would be huge and heavily carry this game for a bit now. Without the big two mods I think the game would've already been dying off a year ago, possibly even earlier.

The only thing that remains from that 2020 memories is the word sus. We now use it for people who act…you know…. But it used to be a term and now it’s just in the English language

honestly the "amogus" memes should give rise to a game called "amogus" like in among us, you have to catch the imposter. unlike among us, no death happens if you lose as crewmates in amogus, the impostor invades earth to transmit the sussy disease making everyone an edited amogus creature from stonetoss's comic

True story, I haven't played among Us in a while, but a month or so after the airship map dropped I decided to pick it back up again and play a little. I have no clue what I was doing or where I was going because the map was new to me people were questioning me and thinking I was being suspicious because I kept saying I'm new, they refuse to believe that in all the time the map had been open I had not played it once. I left pretty soon after. My entire life does not revolve around among Us.

the quick chat update introduced so many bugs that it was impossible to actually play the game properly (in my experience) also every time i try to launch among us on pc now all it shows is an empty window with nothing so i dont play it anymore

For me you can only have a good time when you have discord or something like that because the quick chat made it so much harder to play and have fun

Why are people so obsessed with whether or not a game is dying? I mean, who cares? Why does popularity have to matter? I guess some find the virality, popularity and longevity of a game interesting, because I personally don't.

tbh i think all the updates like the guest account thing and quick chat is what killed the game for me and a lot of other players. i don’t think it would be getting a revival since it’s pretty much a meme at this point
