The Honda Rebel 1100. Proof Common Sense Doesn’t Have to Be Boring

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I was delighted to test the first Japanese motorcycle on the channel.
This, the Honda Rebel 1100, or Honda CMX1100, is Honda’s answer to the Indian Scout, Triumph Bobber and Harley Davidson Sportster. I couldn’t wait to find out how it compared!

I love how Honda doesn't try to imitate HD, Triumph, or Indian too closely. Honda knows that they can't replicate other brands, so they just focus on making it as fun, cheap and reliable as possible.

I hadn't ridden in nearly 50 years. I got a Honda Shadow. Living in Southern California with access to anywhere freeway/ interstate highway dependent I had no confidence in the Shadow at 55 mph. No grunt to pull away and a general head bobbing, jittery ride. 6 Months later in March 2021 I traded for a manual Rebel 1100. What a difference! At 80 to 85 mph on the freeways with the fast lane traffic it feels like a slot car. In sport mode I never have to touch the brakes and use engine braking ... except to cancel the cruise control. Setting the cruise control 5 mph or so slower than traffic is amazing. You have some instant 'slow down' when you then throttle up to traffic speed ... and a quick twist and you are shooting past any potential danger ahead. I now have 7500 miles and a 2500 mile tour through the Eastern Sierras and up the coast from Northern California to central Oregon and back. I should also mention I live on 40 mile mountain highway in a town over a mile high where all manner of recreational motorcyclists come on the weekends to test the twisties and views. I stay off the road till they all go home. Lucky me with it almost all to myself weekdays. As much as you can love an inanimate object, I love my Rebel.

Hi I have done 5,000 miles on my red manual 1100 rebel. So you can say I've got to know the bike. Its a very capable bike as a tourer, back lane scacher. Comuter. It's a street bike that looks like a cruiser. I was very surprised how brilliant it is.

  • @NickWhitfieldnw
    @NickWhitfieldnw2 жыл бұрын

Something had always looked "not quite right" about the Rebel to me that I hadn't been able to put my finger on - but you solved it instantly. It's the look of the engine. Interestingly, now I've accepted that it's the engine that doesn't quite 100% fit the cruiser / bobber aesthetic I can look past it without that lingering feeling. It's a really interesting bike. People who really want an Indian or a Harley will always go in that direction, but this is a fantastic modern take for a good price and with that Honda build quality and reliability.

It’s not only the engine, but the gas tank is so weird looking. Like you put a turtle 🐢 on top. Small forks. Nothing flows with this bike. I love Honda products even though it fits the bill. Aesthetically, I cant seem to love it.

I really love the quality of your videos. Back in June of last year, I wanted to get my first cruiser bike. I had wanted a Scout but they were sold out at the time. I had ran into the Honda Rebel and was blown away at it's price, ride quality, and weight. Eventually, I ended up with a '22 Indian Chief for nearly double the price of the Rebel. I've been very pleased with it but have always wondered what could have been. My Chief lacks the technology that the Rebel has. Also, kinda laughable is storage as the chief has none. Not even storage for registration. I think in the future, I'd like to buy a Rebel since I remember just how fun and light it was.

I’ve bought one of these, fell in love with the DCT version after the first test ride. I had initially looked at the Speedmaster but was put off by the spoke wheels (ack all that cleaning) and all the chrome. At a fair saving on list price of the speedy, all blacked out engine and cast wheels, I had to go with the Rebel. Loving it so far 😃

In your opinion... How confortable is it? When i see the Rebel, whether is the 500 or the 1100, i see a small flat seat which makes me wonder that might not be very confortable for long rides.🙄🤔

I just looked at both the Rebel manual (no DCT for me, thanks) and the Speedmaster yesterday, both available at a dealership 200 miles away. I haven’t been able to find a Rebel manual in stock to date, but luckily, one was there when I called the day before, and I immediately made arrangements to get there. I bought the Rebel. Ordered accessories, and the Rebel is still there waiting for accessories to arrive and get installed. I can’t wait to get her.

I love these reviews from you and Monica! You're positive, instead of nitpicking about every single detail. Not every bike is simply the best bike ever built, but I'll be an absolute joy for the owner. I don't need to trailbrake into corners from 150mph, or pretend I'm Marquez. I'm going to have to try one of these Rebels. I'm on an old stripped Versys 650 that looks like it belongs in an episode of The Walking Dead - but I've never really wanted a cruiser, because it's.. I'm not that type of guy (not that there is one, but we know the stereotype) - this seems like a perfect fit for me, because it's not a "fashion statement" or an "attitude" - I can ride a cruiser without looking like a "biker" (..we all know the stereotype). I know, why should I care what people think, but.. I'm a broad shouldered metalhead with a shaved head and a beard... Oh well - I'm rambling. This feels like a cruiser for someone like me, who can't wrench to save my life, but need to carry my sticked-up old laptop anywhere I go :)

Nice vid. You summed it up in the first 90 seconds. I love Honda as a company and I have driven their cars for many years - even liked the Silverwing scooter - but for a cruiser, I don't want what "Honda" is.

Made me go directly to the Honda Australia webpage to check the local pricing. 20k here ride away is I'd say the cheapest litre bike around in the cruiser segment with all the bells and whistles. I had sat on CMX500 , the only thing I didn't like instantly was the feet position. I wished they had forward controls right from the factory as an accessory. Great video and gorgeous location. Thanks 👍🏼

I have a 500cc Honda Rebel since 2019, it was my first bike, and I love it. I am learning to ride bikes wiht it. Lately I have thought to upgrade it, I mean to buy her big sister, the Rebel 1100. But when I saw the first time the Indian scout bobber twenty, I felt in love. I know it is too expensive but is so beautiful. By the moment I going to continue wiht my Rebel and in the future I will see which is the best option for me. Nice to met you and Mónica, you make great videos. And you two are invited to visit my province in the north os Spain called Cantabria. There is good coffe 😜 better food and the best roads, however the weather is similar to the UK not like Tenerife . Regards from Spain ✌. P.D. Sorry my english, I am not only learning to ride but also your language.

1st off.... The dog poo part was hilarious. I hadn't ridden in 40 years, and I moved from flat area to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. I decided to buy a bike to ride on the mountains. I took the national motorcycle class at a Harley Davidson dealership. I tried a lot of bikes of all makes, but it had been so long since I rode a bike, so I chose the Rebel 1100 because of the modes and how light and easy it is to control. The weight is in the bottom because of the engine. I rode it home in rain mode. I eventually moved to Standard mode, and rode it for awhile. Later, when I felt comfortable, I moved to Sport mode. I made a good decision, and I'm happy that I didn't start with the Rebel 500 first, then move up to the 1100 because no money was wasted. Also, it's the smoothest riding bike I know of. Thanks, and watch your step😂😂

I've got the 2022 Indian Scout Bobber since January and what can I say? The Rebel is a really good looking and reliable bike. Look at the engine, the fuel tank, the lights or the price. This motorcycle is perfect for what it is intended for. No hate for other things people have or like, it's that easy. If you want to buy a Honda? Get one. Harley Davidson? Get one. They all produce nice bikes and in the end, we ride together on the same streets. I really enjoyed your review! Keep on!
