What people don't understand about Oral Roberts was that he grew up in abject poverty in southern Oklahoma. His mother was a full native American. He says that he remembered once meeting his Native American grandparents when the rode in on horseback and slept in tepees then moved on and they never saw them again. His mother had become a Christian and had a high level of devotion. His father from which he got the Roberts name was Welsh. He was a preacher in the early Pentecostal movement when they were considered to be on the poor side of the tracks. The shack they lived in had board walls where the light could be seen through the cracks. When Oral was a teen he ran away from home to get away from that poverty. Then after God healed Oral and spoke to him to have a healing ministry and build a university, one day when Oral was reading III John 2, he jumped out of his chair and ran into Evelyn and read her, that God wants us to prosper even as our souls prosper, she had trouble believing that was in the Bible. We need to recall that back then to be godly meant to be poor. What a narrow and defeating point of view. Oral came to see and preach that God is a good God, which nearly shocked the world. Oral helped to pull the church out of that poverty, defeated mentality. One of the curses of the Law and the effects of sin is poverty. When people are born again a lift comes into their lives and allows them to prosper. Jesus redeemed us from many things including grinding poverty, in which the world has been held by the evil one, even when we live in a bountiful world provided by the Father.

I attended ORU in the 1980s when many of these lessons were taught. An incredible blessing. I have a lot of respect for Oral Roberts. He helped me and millions more in many wonderful ways. Get a copy of his autobiography EXPECT A MIRACLE and learn the background.

I'll be attending ORU in June. I am feeding my spirit man as a preemptive study from the man himself, Oral Roberts. The Blessing of technology.
