The Hollow Hill - The Story Of The Ecton Mines
Фильм және анимация
A tour beneath Ecton Hill and its rich mining history with archaeologist Dr John Barnatt and mining engineer Len Kirkham.
Mining has taken place at Ecton since the Bronze Age, and this film takes us on a fascinating and informative tour of the underground remains of many once thriving metalliferous mines at Ecton. The film provides a detailed history from surviving records of the vast Clayton and Deep Ecton Mines and includes rare footage of East Ecton, Dutchman, Goodhope and Waterbank mines.
Commissioned by the Ecton Hill Field Studies Association. Shown at the NAMHO Conference 2009.

Great video. Greetings from Germany
Thank's David that was a very informative film, I had my first trip around these mines in the late 60s early 70s and went back in 2019 so much has changed on the surface lots of trees and vegetation nowadays It's still a fascinating place to go underground here.

Thanks for your comments Keith. The mines in the 60's and 70's were much more accessible than they are today due to safety regulations, but access is still possibe thanks to a few dedicated and knowledgeable guides. John (Barnatt) and Len did a great job as guides in the film, bringing the history and importance of the mines to light.
Thanks again for uploading all these wonderful films.

Many thanks for your appreciation and support, but I have in turn to thank grandson Isaac who has been the inspiration for me to dust them off and upload them to KZread. We're getting to the end of complete and edited films now but I still have a few that just need time to complete to an acceptable standerd so keep watching out. Cheers, Dave
Great video. Amazing to see what is going on in a hollow hill from the other side of the planet. Thanks!
Very interesting, brings back memories of a visit to some parts

Glad you stuck with it and pleased you enjoyed it. The dates etc can be a bit overwhelming but John Barnatt, with support from Len, did a magnificent job as expert guides in the film.

Thanks very much for your kind comments. Unfortunately I haven't got to the bottom of the cover-names of some of my supporters, but I do fully appreciate you taking the time to write. Dave
I remember a few episodes where I was led by Geoff Cox down the ladders to the Ecton chamber .... itd be fascinating to drop a waterproof camera down those flooded shafts
