    Very nice build! I am trying to find PVC pipes at local dealers, but where I live most dealers only supply ABS or PP material, any idea of these would work? Only found thin walled PVC so far, but not sturdy enough for a proper bow :/

    Hi, great video and I'm now considering using this method to make a different lotr bow. I'm kind of weak though after surgery so how could I lower the draw weight? A smaller diameter pvc pipe perhaps? I wanted to make legolas's mirkwood bow specifically. Do you also have any suggestions on what length pvc pipe to go with to not make this look ridiculous with a 5'2'' shortie, especially as that bow has less curves to it then the one in your video? Thanks so much.

    On the top board I screwed two vertical 1x2s at each end to be used as guide to keep it inline with the bottom board with clamping. To help keep the pipe straight place two strips of tapered material on each side of the pipe separated by the flat width of the pipe. The flatter the pipe is pressed...the wider it gets.

    +Jan Miller With just PVC you can get the scale of power you need without using fiber glass all is about the thickness of the PVC pipe the form of the bow, more reflexe de bow (recurve mongolians horsebows) more power in the same lenght, more deflexe (legolas bow) less power but also less stress to the matterial (more shoots). 2mm for 20-25lbs in 47 inches long, 4mm for 40-45lbs, 6 mm for 60-65lbs aprox in 1" PVC pipe, for more power it will be needed a PVC pipe of more thickness or more diameter.

    Wow! I usualy make flutesand other wind instruments from pvc pipes.. so I had to try this. you are extremely acomplished, and it is much harder that you make it look! I am not entirely sure whether it is also the pvc that might be different in europe, but my first two atempts failed.. do you have measurements of the pvc pipes you use anywhere? like inside and outside diameters? I think it needs a few more tries, as I did do every thing kind of free hand, and not as smoothe as you.. but I am also unsure whether my pvc is maby too different, I fear it is smaller, and perhaps also has thinner walls.. greate channel and I like the kind of projects you post here!

    BackyardBowyer for the Siyah, to make it stiffer, do you think it would be possible to seal off the rest of the limb, and then fill the siyah with epoxy or J.B. weld to reinforce and stiffen it, or would this negatively affect the bow?

  • @BackyardBowyer

    @BackyardBowyer

    If you want to make the siyah stiffer, leave it a little taller, don't thin it too much. You could fill the siyah with something, but the added weight would bring the performance of the bow down.
