The last time I've seen The Hives live was about 10 years ago at Irving Plaza in 2013. My friend John and I won the VIP Meet and Greet that came before the show and I got to chat with the band and have them all sign a drawing of them I did. Well fast forward 10 years and finally The Hives are making a return to NYC (I wasn't able to make the Racket show earlier this year).
The band was every bit as bombastic and entertaining as I remembered, and seal the deal in my book, The Hives as the best live performing band I've ever seen. Howlin' Pelle knows how to get the crowd going. The crowd was just as full of energy as the band members on stage. It was a contestant back and forth all night and the energy was unrivaled. On Halloween eve, plenty of fans were dressed up for the occasion. Many fans were wearing black blazers with similar white patterns adorned to their body, mimicking the band's own get ups.
I seriously wish The Hives wouldn't take such long breaks between visiting New York City because believe me, I'd be at every one. Absolute Kings of the stage, all of them. Long Live The HIVES!
