The marxist who coined the word meant by 'Proletariat,' not the oppressed, but those who work with their hands. And those who work with their intellects are stigmatized bluntly as 'Bourgeois.' It is not the character of a man's life which forms the basis of this classification, it is simply the occupation - whether a man works with his brain or with his body. And in this turbulent mass of the hand-workers the marxist recognized a new power which might perhaps be his instrument for the gaining of that which is his ultimate goal: World supremacy, the destruction of the national States. And while the marxist 'organizes' these masses, he organizes business, too, at the same time. Business was depersonalized, i.e., collectivized. Business lost the character of work: it became an object of speculation. Master and man were torn asunder . . . and he who created this class division was the same person who led the masses in their opposition to this class division, led them not against his marxist brethren, but against the last remnants of independent national economic life."

Until the Ottomans sided with the Germans in WWI and then the British Empire beat them and dismantled the Ottoman Empire once and for all. The Turks always turned a blind eye to this situation and stoked the Barbary Pirates on if anything. Britain was increasingly tired of the way they'd constantly side with our enemies. Even before that, the British and French united under one banner to support the (at the time) dying Ottoman Empire (known widely as the ''sick man of Europe'' at the time in Western press) against Tsarist Russia in the Crimean War. It was fought in the Baltic as well, with Britain levelling Russian coastal forts. The British wanted to lure the Russian Navy out for a huge naval battle in the Baltic Sea but the Russians never obliged. The bulk of the fighting was on the Crimean Peninsula, hence the name of the war; deep in the Black Sea well within striking range of the Tsar's very large armies. The Russians were appalled that, as they openly remarked and reported, the white French and white British of Western Christendom, would fight against white Russians who were Orthodox Christian primarily. They hated the Turks. However, the British and French were deeply concerned about Russia. Empires shrewdly played a game - the Great Game. This was the 19th century equivalent of the Cold War. It was indeed possible for an expanding Imperial Russia, to try and conquer Turkey. This would be strategically problematic for the British but also the French. Both had reasonable concerns that Russia was trying to outflank them on the map in terms of grand strategy; leaving the entirety of the Black Sea uncontested, and essentially being at risk for potentially Russian captured ports on the Aegean Sea and in the Eastern Mediterranean around Cyprus further east. Britain especially, was in absolutely zero mood to put up with what it feared could be a Tsarist ploy to try and use Turkey as a springboard to move into the Middle East and to cut off British India from contact with the Mediterranean. It was even feared, in semi-paranoid strategic overthink, that the Russians could march as far East as Kabul in Afghanistan and threaten the borders of British India. This, they would not tolerate or risk - regardless of the fact that the superficially large size of the Tsar's forces, veiled a particular weakness, slovenliness and incapability of realistically finding the true logistical means to come anywhere near that level of power and ambition at the time. In other words, Britain and France saw the Turks at that time, as being, ''the enemy of my enemy is my friend'', sort of propping up the decrepit Ottoman Empire, to use them as a buffer zone. This is why it was especially enraging to the British and French that the Ottomans were allies of the Imperial Germans in WWI. This time, the British and Empire forces, would destroy the Ottomans (after some considerable hardships from Kut to Jerusalem, from Damascus to Constantinople; which I refuse to call, ''Istanbul'', ever in a serious manner) One of the best things Britain ever did was put an end to the Ottoman Empire.

StevenCrowder, Thanks for the history lesson, is always good to have a refresher class. I learned The Marines' Hymn in bootcamp,. Here the full lyrics From the Halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli; We fight our country's battles In the air, on land, and sea; First to fight for right and freedom And to keep our honor clean; We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marine. Our flag's unfurled to every breeze From dawn to setting sun; We have fought in every clime and place Where we could take a gun; In the snow of far-off Northern lands And in sunny tropic scenes, You will find us always on the job The United States Marines. Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve; In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve. If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes, They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.

  • @r.blakehole932

Shane Tressler Most of what is taught in public school education these days is bunk. Especially subjects like History which is completely NOT taught in public schools. For instance, a friend of mine back in the 1990s ran into a US history textbook used in the local high school. In that US history text book there were 3 full pages devoted to the life and career of Marilyn Monroe. There was one short paragraph devoted to George Washington without whom, the United Sates would not exist. It has gotten much worse since then. I taught history for home schooling students and those students coming in from public schools were....They struggled mightily since they were so far behind the regular home schooling students. If you are from public schools let me suggest you start teaching yourself! You can start off with materials from David Barton's Wall Builders website: wallbuilders.com/ Have fun!
