Very good video. I can remember the old North London Line and the Silverlink trains that used to run from North Woolwich to Richmond up until the early 2000s - not a very pleasurable experience.

I Remember the NLL in the Mid to late 80s. The end of the class 501 units then the EPB Years. Then the 313s

Of course it has got even bigger since the time this video was first made, with the addition of the lines from Liverpool Street to Enfield Town, Chingford and Cheshunt as well as the Romford to Upminster shuttle

The proposed MTA Interborough Express here in New York City will be something like this, if done right, and with expansions.

They need to fix the heating/AC on these trains which never works properly. Also get rid of the frequent, loud, irritating and intrusive PA announcements. Then it might be a decent and comfortable service...

The PA announcement are for everyone who need to know where they are or if you are deaf or visually impaired or like loud music from your phone plus it's part of the DDA law

@@wclifton968gameplaystutorials You have no future as a forecaster, the new trains are approaching 500% more reliable, more frequent, higher capacity, cleaner and safer, usage has massively increased and it’s contributed to regeneration along the whole line.

Most of the history of the overground has happened after this video was released

‘Ahead of schedule’ is something I’ve not heard for many years

I prefer the same level floors of the subways of America than the step under the door in London. And our trainers are at least one inch from the platform.

You’ll enjoy the Circle / Hammersmith / Metropolitan lines then as they’re level-access from the platform now. “Stepping under the door” as you mention is on the deep tube lines, with their smaller trains.

They would have buffer platforms, like Crewe has platform 6 on one side and then on the other side you have platform 11. The buffer platforms were probably 3 and 4, and 5 and 6, like Crewe's 7 and 8, 9 and 10.

why is some the route overhead wires and some third rail something they couldnt get rid of from British rail days, sounds its still hit and miss

Because they were taken over from various different companies that used different electrification standards. The former Southern railway used 3rd rail system and a lot of different companies north of London used overhead electrification so it was cheaper to just use the same for each line that was electrified. The section of the North London Line between Richmond and Acton Central was owned originally by the London and South Western Railway who used 3rd rail electrification and the section between Acton and Stratford was owned by a different company who used 25kv Overhead wires. The Watford DC line used 3rd rail as it can then share with the underground

5 Car Class 378's have been recently introduced for 2015, would be nice if we had a 3 car class 172, I think that's the next thing they should do.

Basically just lay new tracks over old disused lines , waste money on building complete new stations instead of renovating existing ones . And think of the dumbest name to call it , take a trip from Stratford to shorditch with out Leaving the Train Station at all .

+Daniel Eyre A lot of the lines already existed , Some in use Some had been dis used for ages , the Train from Stratford goes to Dalston kingsland which is kingsland road. The Train for shorditch runs from Dalson Lane the quite apart Enjoy the Local scenery on your commute

Get rid of those horrid tube stock seating arrangement and stick some decent looking seats.

It's for the most capacity. Often trains are busy during rush hour, and the longitudinal seating allows more people per carriage so that people can get on the first train that arrives and get to work on time
