Great information about a motor most of us never knew about. Simple clean power, yes wouldve been nice to see the original motor "unmolested" . But...it still exists, so lets be happy about that.

Those old narratives are so cool, especially with the background music. Reminds me of Jack Webb on Dragnet.

As the owner of a 245 Hemi 6 cyl , its interesting to learn of it's relationship with the ballstud hemi v8. Bear in mind though that the aussie engine was designed in America by Dodge .The hemi 6 is a great engine, but not as quiet and smooth running as a slant six

great video , thanks for sharing your info and thoughts abought the famous ball stud hemi . Some of your commentary and fact checking for some reason brought back to my memory a company called Stage V engineering which produced a hemi head that would bolt onto a wedge motor block . A friend of mine knew a guy who bought a set of these heads for on his 440 bracket car . The results of merely swapping on a set of these heads , even without a piston or cam change were dramatic to say the least !! Unable to find any info about Stage V engineering today and I was wondering how many of these heads have survived ??!!! Several iterations were attempted to bolt a set of hemi heads on a B or RB block . The most famous attempt was made by a drag racer from the state of Minnesota named John Hagen , who bolted a set on a low deck 400ci B motor for pro stock drag racing . Sadly John was killed , I believe in a racing accident and all of his work and efforts just seemed to disappear . Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on the ball stud hemi , what would have been or what could have been had men like John Hagen , Don Carlton , or maybe Bob Lambeck had the opportunity to really lean on one of these motors ??!!!

Would love a set of stage 5 heads. But sadly they stopped making them years ago.

This engine completes the circle for admitting their bad decisions from the mid - late 1950's ( regarding engineering decisions for the B - RB head design ). Bring back the hemi in 1964 and bring back the poly with this thing ( minus the rocker shaft ).

I always say the Australian 6 was not a hemi, it just had a bathtub chamber with canted valves. The A279 was closer to being a hemi because the valve set was rotated around the cylinder axis about halfway. The big combustion chamber with no squish would have been a problem for emissions certification in the future. The hardcore racers would have stuck with the 426 head. But it would have probably performed better than the RB wedge heads.

Yeah the 426 head had more potential forsure. But it would’ve way outperformed the rest of the big blocks.

Arruzza shouldn’t have fucked with it at all!

Fair, but Dick Landy fucked with it too

Australian Hemi? Come on. Put a 56 spitfire head on your bench and observe the valve layout. Look at a 318 Poly. This head design belonged on the LA340. That would have been a real Magnum.

Poly head was a rocker arm mounted vs the pedestal mount design.
