The History of Surgery: A Bloody (And Painful) Timeline

Ever wondered about the history of surgery and how it developed into today’s modern practices? When we picture a surgical scene-sterile room, bright lights and clean surgical instruments-patients know they’ll be safe. Although, long ago, this was not always the case.
Join Rasmussen College in this “History of Surgery” as we explore surgical techniques beginning in humanity’s earliest days (and when barbers didn’t only chop off hair…) all the way to modern and safe surgical practices of healthcare today. Learning about the history of surgery might even inspire you to look into pursuing a degree in the healthcare field!

The old Indian man, Sushruta didn't stitched back nose, he created a nose by removing a piece of skin from forehead and carefully putting it in place of old nose. Yes, stitches were there but there is a difference. Patients were supposed to do multiple follow-ups, so that the nose is made perfectly like a real nose. He also advised all instruments used in surgery to be boiled in water before using to clean them. So, we can call it unhygienic by today's standard but it was better than other part of world where same instruments were used again and again without cleaning them thoroughly. He also created some 120 surgical instruments.
