The History of Robocop arcade documentary

Ойындар

The complete history of the entire Robocop franchise from the movies to the games and everything in between. I take a look at all of the Robocop games from the very first title released back in 1987 all the way through to Robocop versus the Terminator and finally Robocop Rogue city. We had an Robocop arcade machine in college. It’s one of those games where you can memorize your way to a 1cc. I haven’t played in 35 years, but watching this video I still remember all the little details - where you need to stand, when to jump, etc. Crazy how our brains work.

Interesting. The pattern imprint is a survival thing- your caveman brain knows when to throw the spear at the boar. The adrenaline and endorphins puts it in your muscle memory-hey you need to remember this to “survive”.

Oh my God I just finished the new game. What an absolute freaking blast. Someone needs to slap the game industry awake and show them that is how you make a game. Think about it this way a licensed product (Robocop) just may dethrone Call of Duty MW as the FPS to get for 2023. If you would have told me that last year I would have told you to take your meds.

This was the only coin-op (apart from Xain'd Sleena) that I could 1CC, although I didn't know what difficulty it was set to. The key was to get the shooting gallery right because it would extend your life bar if you got a perfect score, which was essential in the later stages. Another trick was to try and punch as many enemies as possible whenever you had the Cobra cannon so you had at least one shot left when facing the boss, which was enough to destroy it as soon as it appeared, and would save you a lot of energy.

Oh man am I a huge Robocop fan. The first time I watched Robocop I was 9 years old. This was in 1988 and my dad had it on VHS. He let me watch a ton of cool movies but Robocop was one he was pretty adamant about me not watched it...for some reason. At the time it was the single most violent film I had ever watched and I loved it! From that point forward I was a fan for life. The first time I saw the Robocop arcade cab I was blown away. It had incredible graphics, pitch perfect clear voices, and tons of Robocop inspired violence. I wanted so badly for it to release for the Sega Genesis in 1989 as it really fit Sega's image. Thank you for covering this. I can only assume this was done as a homage to the new game that recently released. Addendum- Have you had the opportunity to play Robocop: Rogue City yet? It is incredible and needs to be experienced by all Robocop fans. I myself just finished it not 5 minutes ago on my Xbox Series X and WOW! The graphics are insane, the sound sublime, the voice acting was perfect, and the gameplay is delectable. It is so good that it should be seen as the true sequel to Robocop 2. I cannot say enough good things about it...10 out of 10 and too Hell with whoever doesn't like it.

There was one at a 7-Eleven that I completed when I was in High School and one at the student center during college. I never played the NES version of Robocop but I did have Robocop Vs Terminator for Genesis. That was an cool game and played it a lot (along with the Mortal Kombat games). Too bad they never released the Gameboy advanced version, it looks really good and it would be popular on Switch. I asked for the new Robocop game Rogue City for Christmas, it looks good. Played Robocop in the arcade.every weekend while my family was doing the weekly shopping in the early 90s. It was one of those games that I thought it would come to the 16 bit consoles at the time but it never did sadly. Hurt hard when the Arcade was replaced with another arcade game and I haven't played it since then which is over 30 years ago.

If I remember correctly, the reason why they did that punching at the start of the arcade game is because Robocop is a police officer. So they wanted to show he was being provoked to using his gun. And not just start the game blasting everyone. There was a arcade of this game at a seaside town where we use to go vacation. There was a teenager there that could finish the game with just one quarter. Always amazed me and I usually watched him do an entire run.

It's funny the original arcade game has enemies on motorcycles and enemies with jetpacks. The second Robocop movie would feature a scene in which Robocop battled punks on motorcycles and the third film had him (not an enemy) using a jetpack. Intentional or not, they accurately predicted things that would be in the sequels.

A laser rifle? That's the Cobra Assault Cannon that the bad guys used at the end of the movie. I've never understood why the games are uneven at using Weller's voice for the sound samples. The arcade game has his voice for all the samples in the game itself, but someone else reading the prime directives at the start. The Spectrum version has clips of Weller reciting the prime directives, but not his voice in the game. The Amiga version doesn't use his voice at all. Speaking of the Amiga version, I liked it at the time, even though some of the levels didn't follow the arcade version that well. At one point, I had all the enemy placements memorized and could complete the game without cheating. I could usually get 100% in the shooting range.

I like tthe Amiga version back in the day when it came out. It's decent and did a pretty good job at replicating the arcades layout. It's crazy how the MS-DOS version is very close in terms of structure even more so than the Amiga. It's just too bad that everything else isn't as good. As far as the voices go I can only assume it's a licensing issue. At the very least they could've had someone try an American accent when reciting the lines

I wouldn’t say the 2014 film is awful. It’s just not anything like the original. It’s actually a good start for someone who hasn’t seen the original cause it shows you how corporate greed creates inferior or infuriating releases. Similar to the original concept of OCP creating the inferior ED 209 that just doesn’t work. It’s a good metaphor. Great video as always Pat

Some secrets in the original arcade game, there are 2 places in the game (may be more) that if you shoot the rifle your score will constantly runs up. You have to stand still after firing the shot, as soon as you move it stops. The only limitation is the time on the stage. One is on the junk card stage a little after getting the rifle(use your shots wisely) save it for where the extra health is, then go up the lift, shoot the rifle. The other is in the narcotics factory stage just before the wrecking ball boss. On stage 2 before the boss (van) there is a gate and 2 boxes. If you move right so that the boxes are barely still on screen you can then go back to them and punch them, you can keep punching them, getting a few hundred points each time. The limit is the stage time once again. Last one, the ED209 in OCP HQ if you time it right you can jump behind it (you will take a little damage) but once you are behind it, you can easily kill it as it won't turn around.
