The History of Pinball Part 3: The Golden Age of Pinball
Комедия
In this video, we go through pinball's biggest, most iconic boom in the late 80's/early 90's to Pinball 2000. In this time, we see some of the most beloved pinball machines get made with a amazing amount of new features and gimmicks.
Special video credits go to the following. If you wanna see more detailed videos/gameplay for individual tables, I highly recommend checking these guys out.

Actually, Banzai Run had the first diamond plated playfield. But it was experimental at that phase, so only a few machines were released with DP playfields. Terminator 2 was the first machine where ALL the playfields manufactured were diamond plated. It's essentially the same polyurethane clearcoat used on cars, and they did away with that label after Fish Tales.

I played a lot of pinball qround 85-95. It was interesting to learn the history behind the game. Very good video. I wish this guy had the money to make a documentary with interviews.
I just got an Addams Family 4K table from At Games this weekend. I absolutely love it! But Attack From Mars is my favorite table and you better believe I installed it on my Addams table!
8:23 is wild because it's two generic as hell pintables and then Circus is the most unique, ahead of its time and best form factor that's ever been attempted
“Pin*Bot may or may not have been the first machine with a Wizard mode.” Black Hole multiball: Am I a joke to you?
Love it. What an achievement. Outstanding job. I couldn't wait for the final chapter to tell you that you've made something you can really be proud of.

I like a couple of Sega's machines. Apollo 13 is silly with its 13 ball multiball, and Twister is pretty fun. I also spent quite a lot of time with X-Files and Starship Troopers. They're not on the same level as Addams Family but I have fond memories of them, and boot them up in Visual Pinball every now and then.

"Or little video modes that are never fun" You made me think about that, and you're right.
I've only seen three arcades that had Super Mario Bros. and found it to be very easy and was able to play for hours on the 3 credit buy-in due to the enormous number of free games awarded.
Great Series, I've thoroughly enjoyed them. But, Williams "Joust" is crazy fun, like funner than most other pinball machines level fun, if you have someone decent to play against. Also, Even with the "balls in her mouth" gimmick, "The machine: Bride of PinBot" is one of the funnest pinball machines ever made, the rotating head is an addictive feature and makes it a worthy sequel to the original iconically addictive "PinBot"

American Gladiators didn't bomb, I remember the late 80s and early 90s, American Gladiators was iconic, to the point that references to it became a trope. American Gladiators was so epic USA network could ride it's coattails for nearly a decade, and Nerf created a tennis ball gun
Can't believe you foreshadowed the Scooby-Doo pinball machine

Pinball 2000. I was so lucky that i got to play both tables a few years ago and man would it have been amazing to see the concept picked up by someone else. Thanks! I don't wanna spoil too much, but multimorphic has a lot of Pinball 2000 energy, they make cool stuff :) There were plenty of tables that I left out just because they weren't quite notable enough. Diner is one that I would've loved to highlight, but there just wasn't enough to say about it. Great game tho
This was awesome. Enjoyed this more that I can say.
This series has been a dream to watch. We share the same feelings about Voltaire: favorite pin, never gonna buy it! ✌️ Flying to Vegas for my bday (alone) JUST to get two full days (ALONE) at the PHoF Museum. Don’t laugh-you KNOW YOU’d do it, too, if the wife letchya. 👀😅🤷♂️ Last time I did this (at the old location) it was a bad week for ol’ Tim; loads of the top machines weren’t working. It was my intro to JJP (Oz) & one a the BATS was busted. 😣 I thought, 💭 _It JUST came out! JJP better get it together!_ (🤔 I’m not yet convinced to invest in one.) 🤷♂️
What fun great videos these are. Very nice sir. Very concise and informative.
Another great episode! Really entertaining way to share the history of pinball and the ups and downs of the companies and individuals that built the machines. Looking forward to episode 4 and beyond!
I just found out about this video series, and I'm loving them. Great stuff. BTW, No Fear is based on a clothing brand of the same name. I know, I didn't know for awhile either.

Funhouse was ok, and Whilrwind was funny with the fan on top, and plenty of others were so good...but you hit the nail onf the head, as The Addams Family pinball machine was in fact great for a reason...I sunk plenty of quarters into that as a kid, a teen and an adult in bars. IT was just that cool and iconic. Twilight Zone might be in 3rd/ Bronze or 2nd/sivler spot depending on ones feeligns about it, but it was cool too. BUt to me, second to the Addams Family one was the Star Trek TNG pinball machine from 1993...that one was PERFECT for trekky fans and it had some cool features on screen and on the table. Surprised you didnt have that on here tbh. I remember some of the ones you did show and others. PINball rocks! ^

Sorry, had to comment again. Love this series. Pat Lawlor is the GOAT, Whirlwind is probably my "if I could have one table in my living room" table pick, not least of which because of the great sound effects and the fact that it doubles as a floor fan. Honestly that whole stretch of Bally and Williams tables from Cyclone/Banzai Run in 1988 to about The Addams Family in 1992 is the high water mark for pinball IMHO, having modern style ramp shots and great table flow while not interrupting the game with a lot of different play and video modes constantly directing your attention to the backbox. Which is not to say that some later tables like Cirqus Voltaire aren't amazing in their own right, of course.

Now the 'trend' seems to be digital pinball machines with no balls, just a giant monitor for the table.
There are so many pinball machines that need an acurate digital transition so everyone can experience them. But I guess too many digital licenses are afloat and many games to play gonna be stuck inthis license war. Had most Williams tables on my phone and one day - update - boom! - many were gone, including my favorite old school classic Fireball. Damn!

Good job on the #3 in the series. Just as good as the previous ones and it's my favorite era of pinball. Wow, just looking at those dates it's insane how cramed the 90s was with pinball compared to what came after. Also, thanks for finally showing that joust I talked about last video. :D Lastly, I always thought the issue with Pinball 2000 was that Revenge from Mars did well but Star Wars Episode 1 did not perform well. But yeah maybe it was more they were expecting it be a huge smash hit and when reaction to episode 1 was just.. meh.. that was it.

Thanks! Its my favorite era too. I think the problem with pinball 2k was that wms had already pretty much given up on pinball and were just looking for any excuse to shut it down. Pinball 2k was williams' last ditch effort to make something that would sell big time and it just didnt work out.

Love your pinball documentary’s. I’ve watched history of pinball videos so many times but yours are more entertaining, yet also deeper and more informative. From my understanding part 4 will go like this…. Stern Pinball keeps pinball on life support for the next decade or so by making games that are neither terrible nor great. Then in the early 2010’s something miraculous happens and less than a handful of “boutique” companies show up. These companies don’t care about selling to arcades, or bars, or vendors. They are small groups of pinball and retro nerds who make games for small groups of pinball/retro nerds to take to shows so that other pinball/retro nerds can line up and wait for hours to play 1 game. The last time I went to a show those games were “The Wizard of Oz” and “The Big Lebowski” Nowadays I haven’t been to a Pinball Convention in years but I do go to a retro niche arcade that is in the area and these games seem pretty prevalent now. They all seem to be Rock and Roll based with the games being called “Metallica”, AC/DC, and “Guns and Roses”. The big innovation seems to be that they are super loud, and half the back glass is a TV screen. Guess I gotta wait till part 4 to see if what I think happened aligns with your documentary.
