4:22 to anyone who is a programmer, that's why it's a problem to use signed integers when you dont need to. The integer could potentially store up to 65535 however since it was signed that means that half of that value is wasted and just takes up memory for no reason AND they run into that issue in the video. That's because when you make a signed integer it can store negatives (negative 32k to positive 32k) and since they have no reason to have negative values when counting the amount of maps there is litteraly no reason not to make it an unsigned integer because it would give it double space at no cost.. the only possible reason not to is because it might not look nice in code but that's stupid imo. For C# you could make an unsigned 16 bit integer this easily: "UInt16 num=0;" (opposed to "Int16 num=0;") and an unsigned 32 bit int is like this: "uint num=0;" or how I do it "UInt32 num=0;" (opposed to "int num=0;"). Thought this was worth commenting since I've never seen anyone adjust their code in such a way even though it is such an obvious and easy improvement that only takes 1 character usually.

Unsigned integers literally didn't exist in Java for a long time. Maps were first implemented in Java 6 or 7, and they started requiring JRE8 (which added unsigned) years later. Even the modern versions use signed longs (with correct negative handling) rather than uints.

The amount of time that must’ve taken-ain’t no way that only took 3 months, unless he’s counting by hours spent rather than days spent. Getting everything just right for ONE map can take a long time, I can’t imagine the time, energy, space, and rendering it would’ve taken to make *200* intricate designs with each pixel mattering.. It’s a perfect metaphor for the universe when ya think about it 😅

This video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/oGylmcWykpCxgs4.html) of BarrenDome shows him filling his hotbar with maps and creating and disposing of each one at a speed of roughly 8.5 maps per second. (10:13 - 11:12). Disregarding logistics for getting said maps into your inventory, this means it will take 503316480 seconds or 16 years to empty the map pool at this rate. While the bots may be speed up, the biggest problem is duping and storing the maps. The 4.3 billion maps needed to do this will take up the equivalent of 2.4 million shulker boxes in the meantime.

Just an extra bit of history. Maps in item frames used to not connect in vanilla. I remember using a mod to get wall maps without the item frame edges. They added that feature very soon after item frames came out. Edit: Checked the wiki. Item frames came out in 1.4.2 and the full-block wall map update was in 1.7.2, exactly a year apart. Oct 25, 2012 and 2013. I was wrong about it being soon after lol

@@dandanthedandan7558 Everyone understands the whole "anarchy" gimmick, but admins DO change shit about the server, so intentionally keeping something in a state where it works like shit just so a few people who love resetting maps can get their jollies off vs everyone who thinks map art is neat isn't really necessary. If lag machines were determined to be such a detriment to the server as a whole that they get patched out, I don't see why this is any different. If the admins never put their foot down for ANYTHING, the server would be unplayable.

Imagine like, 2B2T updates, and a bunch of map arts get made of trading cards with increasing rarities. A whole economy of trading cards on an Anarchy Server could be really cool IMO. It could even represent people or places or events in the server's history! Especially if Shulker Boxes were used as booster packs-- imagine someone giving you a booster pack of 2B2T Trading Cards and pulling a Legendary Popbob or something. That would be so cool!

Some of these are incredible. True works of art. Combining both ingenuity with creativity.

The fact that the largest map art ever is of a nebula is strangely touching. Goes to show that despite how divided and complex the world can be, humans can still find common ground in the sheer awe and wonder we feel when we explore the world around us.

I couldn’t imagine what it was like to be the first guy to reset every map on the server.

2b2t will always be stuck on the earlier versions of the game until there's a significant overhaul on the coding side of things to allow for improved performance. 1.13 and above are just way too performance heavy otherwise, especially for a terabyte large server. It's a big F moment.

i think when calligraphy tables were added they made it so that you could "lock" a map: what displayed on the map couldn't be changed, even if the actual blocks that it captured change. that, along with banners allowing you to label locations on maps give even more benefit to map artists and even other players that just use maps when 2b2t updates.

Now that 2b2t has updated to 1.19 which has a 4,294,967,296 map limit. I did a quick calculation and found that it would be a fool's errand for any map art griefer or troll to cause a quick map reset. If we assume a worst scenario of accounts being able to bot out the old 16-bit limit (65,536) in 24 hours running 24/7, then with the new limit it would still take 180 years to exhaust all the maps. And if they somehow manage to bot the maps at 65.5K/hr, it would take about 7.5 years (assuming Hause doesn't notice that the server is getting mass DDoS'd by this and he doesn't crack down with a few seconds of cooldown or something). It gets better if Mojang ever decided to up the map limit to the 64-bit limit in the future, which would make it astronomically impossible to do.

Yeah fr lmfao, 18 quintillion maps, if there is no 5 sec - 30 sec cooldown on each map used, running at the most optimal 65.5k maps an hour, it would still take like ~32 billion years for a single person to break the 64 bit limit ON TOP OF THAT; If 250 bot accounts were going at that 65.5k rate, it would still take 128,000,000 years!!!

This caught me up on a lot of map development.

I dont know why but seeing detail like this in a game like minecraft feels wrong

it is amazing how people can make a simple map turn into a big painting.

@@erich_ika its making rules through plugins and patches, saying what you can and can't do, doesn't matter if it isn't rules text, you litterally cannot do it, therefore either its not an anarchy server, or litterally every server is anarchy, ie you got banned since the admin has "no rules", im not saying you should run mojangs vanila server, just that some server changes are more intrusive than others, and 2b's are some of the most intrusive, crystal pvp isn't exactly vanila, so like, i think hause just likes to pick and choose what he wants on his server as a ruler, which is his right, its his server, he can do whatever he wants with it, anyone who says otherwise is an entitled joke, but you really can't say its anarchy with a straight face, remember anarchy isn't no rules, its no rulers
