LEGO Star Wars is one of the most expansive and interesting themes, and is also a large reason to why the company is so successful today. I did a deep dive into the LEGO Star Wars history and here is everything I found.

I think the most shocking thing is that LEGO has been using the same battle droid mold for 20+ years.

@@0scNeu Yes it works, but a simple jointed arm would improve the battle droid figures tremendously, and yet they still remain unchanged to this day. As far as commando droids, I'm going to have to disagree. Commando droids are known for being agile, quick assassins and in my opinion the stiffness of the LEGO models really doesn't work for such a droid.

watching this not because I think I’ll learn anything new - but for Hollys personality and editing
So it took me three days to finish this cause life got in the way but this was such a fun video! What a nostalgia trip. I'm a '92 kid so I was the perfect age for that first Lego Star Wars wave. Still remember my sister getting that first Luke's landspeeder and me getting the Vulture droid. Wish i still had them 😭 cant wait for Part 2!
This is a brilliant idea for a series, Holly! I'm excited to learn even more about Lego Star Wars from you!
I love deep dive/video essay type videos. I’M VERY EXCITED.

Love the little drawing of Jar Jar on the E1 timeline card
Enjoyed this trip down memory lane. The Technic sets were indeed very awkward, but I loved (and still have) the Destroyer Droid, which actually folds up into a wheel so it can roll away. I sold my Jango Slave 1 last year for a lot more than I paid for it. Jango's was much bigger and better than the original Boba Slave 1 (which I still have), but it had a tendency to implode if you picked it up in the wrong spot.
I feel like greedo is an important 2004 event. only greedo with printed arms to date, used mostly discontinued colors, and was the first mos eisley cantina set introducing the dewback.
It was very nostalgic hearing you go over all these years. I'm surprised you didn't find mention more for 2004. It gave us the first Falcon with a plated top and the arm printed Greedo.
Love this video lucky enough to have some of these sets. Awesome to hear you talk about this time period in lego.
2004 was notable for sets like the Millennium Falcon, the UCS Y-Wing, Yoda's Hut, and the Mos Eisley Cantina.
My favorite lego Star Wars era is 2007-2014 Mainly for the figs
The crazy thing to me is that this video of my favourite Lego theme starts from 1999-2006 (the year I was born)
The professionality on this channel is through the roof. Another great one, Holly! 👏😊

Holly is the best Lego teacher.
I love this series! Keep it up Holly! Great job! When the series is complete, can you upload it all in one video?
You know it’s gonna be a good deep dive video when it has to be split up in three parts
Since I'm 50, I remember when I rediscovered Star Wars in my early twenties at a Walden book store in 1992. The RPG Death Star Technical Companion. I was amazed at the depth of material for it. Then there were Trading Card shows at my local mall. The Dark Horse comics were out and some of the new molds for the muscular action figures on store shelves. So... I think there was a major Star Wars presence in the marketplace well before the Phantom Menace and I'm sure some marketing information was presenting this as an "adversarial force" in the marketplace, thus why LEGO started to struggle, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was also a competitor. I think LEGO made the long term choice of going with a rich source of material from LFL. Awesome to see you doing a deep dive on your memories of an incredible era. Still would like to see some LEGO X-Files sets.😂👽🎬🦇
He's called Jedi Bob because that's what he is called in the Lego Star Wars Dictionary book
Congratulations on the sponsorship! This is about when my dark ages started so this was pretty interesting! Definitely a very important time in LEGO history!
Before Lando was the first Black minifigure head, Jar-Jar was the first ever unique head mold.
With your collection being so large, I actually didn't know you begun collecting Star Wars in 2020. I started in mid-late 2019 which was when I moved to Australia. Still missing a whole lot of minifigures :( Very comprehensive video, looking forward to part 2. Just realised my notifications weren't on so I turned them on
AWESOME SERIES. I'm absolutely loving it
It was the hype for the first Starwars UCS sets that brought me back into Lego as an adult. The UCS Tie Interceptor was the first Lego Starwars set I ever bought. 🛸
You contradicted yourself saying that prior to SW Lego was family friendly and stayed away from violence, this right after you mentioned it's previous themes like Castle, Pirates, Space, Vikings and Western. They had canons, guns, bows, spears and even their catalogs depicted fighting scenes between the various factions.
Holly in her Mikes Mic era
Can't wait for part 2.
This was a great video. Really well researched and it’s a sort of walk down memory lane even though I was a literal toddler when the first sets came out 🤣
Yes, this is amazing. Holly you’ve done it again
The problem with bringing back "Jedi Bob" isn't really that LEGO doesn't want to do it, it's more that ALL of the LEGO Star Wars sets and minifigures have to be approved by Disney/LucasFilm and try to explain to them that there's a minifigure on a set that's just a meme...

One thing you didn’t mention about lego Star wars beginning, it was the company ceo who decided to allow the theme to happen. A lot of the higher ups at lego hated the idea of making a license theme and thought they should still continue to make only original ideas. Legos money troubles at the time and the fact Star Wars is more a good vs evil fantasy story than a modern warfare story which lego will never do is what made the theme happen

I read about that in the book Brick by Brick. I was very entertained by that particular story, especially when one guy said, “Over my dead body will LEGO ever work with Star Wars!” (Or something like that; I don’t remember the exact quote.)

LEGO only made 1 Transformers set though. If they make more Transformers sets, I hope they cost less money than Optimus Prime.
At Star Wars Celebration I Denver 1999, Lego was not allowed to sell any Star Wars set that contained guns at the convention.

I would also recommend checking out NickonPlanentRipple's lego rewind episode on the subject.
I got Cloud City from my local K Mart at Brandon Park back in the day.
11:05 the Destroyer Droid (8002) from that line was great though, and its mechanism kind of worked well.
Great video! I have the UCS Death Star it‘s actually from 2005 and omg it is such an awesome build but it is partly very fragile. I was fixing the superlaser while watching your video and it‘s a pain to reattach the laser beams. And I rotated it wrong so the „shadow“ isn‘t like it shows on the box but I will maybe change it in the future because it is so hard to change it.
Well said Holly.👍👍👍
I got to be part of the clone wars clone themed building event in 2009 at the star wars exhibition at the powerhouse museum in Sydney, I don't remember if there was a box or not

Hello there
Nah 2004 had the millenium falcon, it was the first set with flesh colored figs
Lando from cloud city was also the first African American figure:)

Holly we was wanting and trying to make out legos into Star Wars ships back in the 80s and they would sell poly bags with parts so that way you t was possible to make a x-wing and tie fighter it took along time to get that much Lego as most kids didn’t have a lot of Lego in blue a rich rich kid or at Xmas time that was the only time a kid got a set as a matter of fact them old poly bags or small box sets that cost like 2.50$-4.50$ back in 80-86 are worth 500-1300$ now they was mostly blue red or white trucks or cars ad once you got enough of them you could put together a half ass xwing and all kids would always say to each other why don’t that make a Star Wars Lego set I was forgotten about after while site Lego could make make anything but Star ships didn’t look cool only space was as close we could get and it was corny once I heard at 24 that Lego was making Star Wars sets I was like damn after all these years they finally did it now we need to wait till they make parts better for it which they said they’re as going to
Lego star wars prequal movie had released in cinemas.
Greetings from 2024 we are getting more Jedi Bob
6:21 The Phantom Menace wasn't really hated back when it first came out. People actually liked it. It got good reviews and fans liked it too, especially kids. It's only since then that people turned on it and the haters became more vocal with the internet becoming a bigger thing and they act like they always hated it but that's definitely not true Also they made a Technic Pit Droid which I think was the best one because the functions were very similar to the movie with its arms and legs coming out
Another great video, nice work. Your preparation is top notch. However, you should know, every time somebody says the prequels are their favorite an Ewok dies. Just kidding, you do you :)
The reason hei s called jedi bob is because someone asked lego customer service what is his name and they said his name was jedi bob

"Only the best is good enough"? I wish the Lego Star Wars team had that attitude! 😅 There've been so many inaccuracies and mistakes with Lego Star Wars recently.
The worst part of the star wars theme is that it brought to lego all the toxic phenomenons of american fandom: adult collectors, hoarding unboxed sets to sell later, "investing" in lego, etc.
