The History of Fingerboard Stores | ASI Berlin, Slushcult, Dirty Monkeys, Vals and more!

Ойын-сауық

This video will tell you all about the history of fingerboard storefronts! In my mind, opening a brick-and-mortar store in my opinion is the single most important action a fingerboarder can do for the scene. There’s a lot of risk involved and yet these stores have made massive impressions in fingerboarding.
Note: I am missing a handful of stores (I figured it would happen lol) there is also Radical in Australia, Yellowood Store in Portugal
0:00 Introduction
0:54 Fingaspeak
2:16 Cattapult Broken Bones
3:20 Blackriver Store / ASI Berlin Store
4:19 The PoP Factory
4:49 Th!s
5:09 Yuck
5:32 Axe Ramps
6:00 USA FBL HQ
6:26 Goodvibes
7:10 6skates
7:45 Slushcult
8:46 Vals Fingershop
9:11 Dirty Monkeys
9:45 GuaiGuaiChai Workshop
10:15 Loompa Fingerboards
10:38 Finger Industries
11:08 Conclusion
In the earliest times, fingerboards could be purchased at either A) toy stores B) Large retailers C) Skateboard shops. Now, in this video we will feature stores that were established as fingerboard stores, but you will also see stores that have dual industries. In fact, we’ve seen stores that have been established as skateshops, design studios, and streetwear/fashion that now double as fingerboard stores and event spaces.
In 2004, something monumental occurred. We saw the first dedicated brick-and-mortar storefront open in Steyr, Austria. Fingaspeak hosted many contests, and ran a large, annual contest, Fingaspektakel, which was probably the second most renowned fingerboard competition outside of Fast Fingers at the time.
This highlights the influence that a brick-and-mortar fingerboard store can have on both a local community and at a global level. Unfortunately, the store ended up not working out and closed in 2009.
The first fingerboard store in Germany, Cattapult Broken Bones, opened in 2008 in Fürstenfeldbruck a town located in Bavaria about halfway between Munich and Augsburg. About 30 minutes away from Munchen HBF by train, it was easily accessible for the Munich fingerboard community.
Like the impact Fingaspeak had on the Steyr community, Cattapult changed the fingerboard scene. Nico Frank, Bene Muller, Daniel Zeise, Bene Muller, and Danny Friedrich. Munich locals such as Martin Winkler would hop on the train and head over on occasion. Downstairs was a retail store. Upstairs was an epic fingerboard setup, with multiple blackriver parks including a G5 and G6 Park and even a custom park built by the Cattapult crew.
