Daffys history seems to really correlate with his character, his excited and wild nature was his younger and starting up years, and was at that point the star of most shows with great popularity as the main loony toon. Then suddenly bugs showed up and started to take away alot of his glory and he became the star of loony toons. Turning Daffy jealous and cynical reflecting that he was no longer the big star anymore.

I agree. I believe his fans sympathize with him as Bugs stole the spotlight from Daffy. Daffy just wants the love of the audience back....

Daffy is honestly my favorite looney tunes character ever, his shorts always cracked me up. Tbh I'm a little upset he strayed away from being looney, sometimes him playing second fiddle made me feel sorry for the guy 😐 at least he's got his crazy side back in wabbit

It goes either way to be honest. Bugs always is gonna get the better of Daffy in the cartoons together, because that's just how their personas clash. But just going by how entertaining they are and how good their films are, it definitely can go either way. Cuz even tho Bugs is the icon of WB, both him and Daffy really are completely equal in terms of how iconic they are. Personally, I do enjoy Daffy toons more than Bugs' (tho I obviously love both). Mostly because Daffy has so much more versatility. Like you can get the egotistical, self absorbed, glory seeking version of Daffy, the asshole who is too inept to realize how inept he is version of Daffy, or (my personal favorite) the totally off the wall daffy as fuck version of...well DAFFY, hence the name. All the different kinds of Daffys available make so much more of a variety of toons we got. Whereas with Bugs, he put out a constant stream of iconic toons but they were all the same basic format because there is only one style of Bugs. Only one persona. Its almost like how, briefly, Donald Duck's solo cartoons were better than Mickey's. Because Donald's personality allowed for him to be a protagonist or antagonist. Like, with Mickey, hes always gonna be the "Jerry" of the "Tom and Jerry" type dynamic that most classic cartoon shorts utilized. But Donald's persona allowed for him to be either the "Tom" or the "Jerry" or even both, depending on what the script called for. (Yes, im aware T&J are far younger than Mickey, Donald, Bugs, and Daffy but this analogy illustrates the point best). But even so, Mickey still totally eclipses Donald in terms of icon status, whereas Bugs and Daffy really are total equals despite Bugs being the corporate mascot the same way Mickey is. Cuz with Mickey, hes the mascot because he was the original, the one that catapulted his parent company, and is by far the most popular of his colleagues. The same can be said for both Bugs and Daffy, but Bugs gets to be the mascot because hes always the good guy, the winner, the charming one, where as Daffy was often the bad guy, the jerk, the one desperately trying to get what Bugs naturally got. That's as best I can describe it. Basically, only the Jerry can be the mascot, and when it comes to Bugs and Daffy, Bugs is always seen as the Jerry while Daffy is always seen as the Tom. Ok shit, this reply flew off the rails FAST. Sorry.

The Daffy on The Looney Tunes Show was a mix of the two versions.

Daffy is not always a hero. He’s usually not an outright villain but sometimes his selfishness can lead him to play the role of an outright evil character. He is more accurately labelled as an anti-hero and at times can even become a leading villain. That said, as with most of his fellow Looney Tunes, how mean he is depends on the era. He is an on-and-off best friend of Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig.

Nice to see such a comprehensive, unbiased review of Daffy Duck's appearances! I'm personally a big fan of some his early stuff, but I by no means at all hate most of his later appearances as well (Duck Amuck especially is possibly my favourite Looney Tunes episode). Thanks, ElectricDragon, from a big fan of the little black duck! :D

This guy right here, Daffy Duck, is my favorite Looney Tunes character.

My favorite string of Daffy cartoons come from Robert Mckimson and Chuck Jones (pre-Hunting trilogy). Daffy in those shorts was the perfect compromise between Avery’s/Clampett’s screwy take and Jones’s/Freleng’s more selfish take. He was eccentric and loud-mouthed with a slightly greedy streak, while still maintaining a hyperactive personification, but not to the extent of Avery or Clampett. That’s the Daffy I know and love.

*MISSING BIT OF INFORMATION* He would also appear in new cartoons like 1990's "Box Office Bunny", 1991's "Blooper Bunny", 1992's "Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers", 1995's "Carrotblanca" and 1996's "Superior Duck". He would also get his own girlfriends like Melissa Duck in the old cartoons like "The Scarlett Pumpernickel" and "The Duxorcist" and Tina Russo in "The Looney Tunes Show". This is not even mentioning how many voice actors went to do his voice after Mel Blanc like Jeff Bergman, Greg Burson, Jeff Bennett, Frank Gorshin, Dee Bradley Baker, Billy West and most prominently the late great Joe Alaskey.

The Daffy Doc And Drip Along Daffy are my favourites.

But fortunately they turned him back to the crazy and screwball duck we all know and love

Favorite Daffy's shorts are Duck Amuck, The Great Piggy Bank Robbery, Robin Hood Daffy, Baby Bottleneck, Rabbit Seasoning, and Duck Dodgers. Most of them being directed by my favorite Looney Tunes directors: Chuck Jones and Bob Clampett.

He may be Greedy.... *BUT HE WORKS FOR THAT GREED, DAMN IT!*

Bugs is better, but I think Daffy happens to appear in better films, such as "Duck Amuck", "You Oughtta Be in Pictures", "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century", "Deduce, You Say!", "Robin Hood Daffy", etc.

Honestly, I never found Bugs Bunny funny at all until ironically the version everybody hates, the 2011 looney tunes show version(and you can imagine my disappointment when Wabbit came) for me, I've always preferred Daffy Duck, specifically anything after his insane days, to bugs bunny. I wish he was the mascot instead.

We're almost at the tail end of Animation Lookback of the Looney Tunes.

No acknowledgement of the fact that, when Warner Bros, started producing new theatrical shorts in the late-1980s, Daffy Duck starred in the first two (and also co-starred in the third)?

happy 90th anniversary looney tunes!!! :3 always liked the shorts were he had the spotlight,also liked how the duck was handled in back in action(were along with being a nice showing of his history correlating to his character he finally got acknowledgement saving bugs and the world.) & duck dodgers(looking back on that show the martian queen's love to daffy in hindsight is a bit of a precursor to boa hancock's love towards luffy in one piece except she took being denied better.:3) and am happy to see him come back in space jam 2.

Yes indeed. Double D and Daffy do have the same voice actor. Though personally, my favorite Sam Vincent role would be a tie between Krypto the Super Dog and Stegs from Extreme Dinosaurs.

I can't find my favorite episode. A kid gets Daffy (as a baby) for Easter. Daffy grows up to be a loud-mouthed hard-partying slob, eating everybody's food at the dinner table. Finally fed up, the father puts Daffy in the freezer to have for Thanksgiving. Day before Thanksgiving, the father opens the freezer and Daffy jumps out covered in ice and says "What a trip! Blizzard all the way! But I had to get the serum through!"

Daffy has always been my favorite since I was a kid because he would always make me crack up; and plus I think he's more realistic than Bugs. Being a greedy slob and demanding fame is something most people can relate to. Bugs is more like an internet troll, I think. With Daffy, after watching him in Bah Humduck, I like the fact that they worked on his past. (I know the film was a parody of Christmas Carol) It's good to work more on the character's development as the years go by with Looney Tunes. I think they only did that on Daffy, I don't know. But, yeah, he's always been my favorite.

Sometimes I feel like he could be compared to Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh! and Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z since they're jealous rivals to Yugi and Goku respectively.

lol, thought the same thing too. Another one that comes to mind is Mario vs. Wario, Sonic vs. Shadow, Jem vs. Pizazz, Naruto vs. Sasuke, Ash vs. Gary Oak, Scrooge McDuck vs. Flintheart Glomgold (except Glomgold is a straight-up villain most of the time). There's probably a bunch of other good examples out there I missed, but yeah, those ones come to mind 😋

I always preferred Daffy to Bugs, Ultimate Warrior to Hulk Hogan, Donatello to Leonardo, Wil E Coyte to Roadrunner, and hated the 90's Chicago Bulls. It's just how I was..

Space Jam IMO did this pretty well, balancing Daffy's zanier and egocentric moments with getting pegged down a bit when traveling with Bugs.

As a kid i always feel bad for Daffy and i didn't like smooth face of Bugs Bunny. Which is why i like the short with Him and Elmer in future house where Daffy win.

Whatever I like about the Looney Tunes, I will say Daffy Duck is my #1 favorite. Believe it or not, I actually feel pity for Daffy. I actually like seeing animation projects where he wins. In fact, this is a major relief considering how rarely he ever wins. Also, there were times when I was a child when I saw myself as Daffy. So today, I still feel some emotions for Daffy. I suppose my top favorite animation projects starring Daffy include Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur, Tom Turk and Daffy, Dripalong Daffy, The Great Piggy Bank Robbery, Duck Dodgers, and especially Duck Amuck. The only animation project where I would have problems with Daffy is actually in the 2011 television project. I hate to say it, but seeing him act like a big fat meanie and act so stupid actually made me uncomfortable. But when it comes to the Golden Age, Daffy Duck is most certainly my favorite Looney Tune.
