I like how the history of this, and other abilities in general goes like... Classic: Unique, with odd/dumb stats. BC: Cleaned up a bit, but keeps the flavor, maybe adds something new. Wrath: Fine tunes it, though it costs a little flavor. Cata: Nerfed Pandaland: Nerfed WoD: Nerfed again or Removed Legion: Removed if it somehow survived WoD
I have to say, this is one of my most favorite videos, it's just so fun to know these facts, keep it up :)
Cant wait for classic so I can finally see the frost armor animation again! God I miss it

Its kinda hard to focus in on what your talking about when you have 2 different sets of music playing in the background.

Omfg I love going between your Yugioh channel TheDuelLogs and this channel and listening to your satisfying voice.
that's a good idea do a video about the poster boys of as many stats as possible and explain why
something you forgot to mention which was pretty big at the time, the wrath version of molten armour, and the set bonus from TOC interaction combined with 'snapshot' effects caused molten armour to be the only actual choice for raiding from TOC>ICC/RS. to explain: when you cast molten armour you gained critical strike rating based on a % of your 'spirit' stat (as you mentioned), this was also made better by being a 'human' due to the racial passive 'the human spirit' which gave you a small 'spirit rating' value, the old 2p bonus for mages from khadgar's regalia (TOC set), was that it have you more of your spirit value as critical strike rating, and thanks to snapshotting, it meant once you cast the molten armour under these circumstances the buff stayed on you in the enhanced state even after you equipped your 'proper' raid gear (or until you died which as they were temp buffs back then not passives), this meant that you could gather up a load of high quality 'spirit' gear equip it all in a macro alongside the 2p set, cast your molten armour buff, equip your normal gear with another macro and go into combat significantly better than other mages around you who weren't using this technique.

I know. I remember when that patch went live and all of a sudden my Shadow Priest was unable to fall below 98% mana even during non-stop casting my rotation. It was just plain ridiculus!! The constant _make-the-game-easier-so-the-whiners-cannot-lose_ is what made me drop the game years ago. I tried a private server when I heard Classic was coming (to see if it was just mental nostalgia or not) and I am *SO* going to play it. It didn't need my sense of nostalgia to keep me in, I loved the challenges and the feeling of finally getting that piece you spent weeks chasing was divine.

What Blizzard doesn't realize is that, yes, running out of mana wasn't fun in and of itself, but having to work your way around that problem was the fun part. I don't even understand why non-healer magic users even have mana bars at this point..
From 13:25 I can't hear anything other than the music it's sounds so wierd
Stance Dance Dance...Cant stop the feeling!
Multistrike technically first was introduced in Mists of Pandaria on some of the trinkets from Siege of Orgrimmar. Though it wasn't called multistrike at the time.
Can you make list of quests (or achievements), which had so ridiculous requirements only low percentage of players completed them.
What xpac is the recording from 10:15 at? And is it a private server? I see you have eternal flame which is one of my favorite spells of all time.
i could listen to you say "stance dancing" all day.
You touched on mana issues in the beginning, and that made me think: Why did Blizzard trivialize the mana usage for casters? They added so many different energy bars in mists, wod and legion, which clearly shows that they care for each spec to play differently, yet they themselves completely removed any troubles casters had with their resources, which could have been a fun thing to design abilities around. Shadow priests were really cool with their independent theme going on, giving mana to others and such.
I miss old wow :
As far as I know, low level spells were used actively in raids to keep aggro low and manage mana better.
why would you type D-buff instead of debuff?
I miss multistrike.. it was like a mini-crit that added a cute, tiny version of your spell
I remember getting up to 8 or 9 % crit off molten armour before the cataclysm change. I was not a fan because I liked stacking spirit on my mage
I barely heard anything after the description of Mage Armour in D&D... 3 years playing several hours a week with a wizard in the party, and *this* is how I learn its range is touch, not self...
Funny thing I think Ice Barrier and power word Shield are the oldest player animations in the game still in use. both made in vanilla and not updated yet. I hope this comment ages terribly.
7:21 *jaw drops, gets hearth attack*
can you do death knight changes one day, very misunderstood. Went from being skillful play to 3 button glass cannons
to correct you in one thing, paladin Wings are undispelable since MoP not Legion :) anyway, great video :)
I remember the “uncrushable” pursuit.
Slight correction needed. In WotLK each and every mage would use and glyph molten armour. Every mage, no matter the spec. Molten armour and glyph. Non-negotiable. That buff granted up to 15% crit with decent gear and pve arcane mages used offset heal stuff with haste and spirit anyway. Even with less gear molten armour would yield ~10% crit.
Do a history of stats video!
Please make a video about how the feral druid evolved :)
If Blizzard didn't want Warriors to "stance dance" then why was Tactical Mastery available from the get-go?
I feel like during the ink drop part of the video it was inspired by dead space 2
Avenging Wrath become undispeleable in MoP :p
good informative video, but the MAIN reason for them to getting rid of multiple ranks was hinted on in the video, the use of lower rank versions in place of their higher rank versions. mostly healing spells tho. a paladin in vanilla once they had their spell power high enough would take the lower, faster casting ranks of Flash of Light in lieu of the full power versions, it would offer them a higher HPS, lower mana cost, more consistent healing even tho it was smaller per cast. hitting a member of a group/raid with 300 every 1.6 was better than hitting them with 360 every 2.0 seconds. also when "topping off" their target it was less wasted mana. this wasn't just a paladin thing, that was just an example. this made longer fights easier to manage their mana. some players would just keep both low and higher ranks on their bar and cast depending on circumstances.
I feel like I might be wrong but weren't glyphs added in cataclysm? You keep mentioning them during the bc and wrath eras and I'm genuinely confused.

RIP Stance dance... As Cata (pve) Arms warrior(,without stance macros) i miss the stance dancing so hard... it was sooo fun to do, pressing that ridiculous amount of buttons in a short time for this barely amount of increased damage...
Make a video about Warrior charges
A raid boss had 5.6 percent chance to crit, not 6.. 5 base + 0.2 for every level above yours.
What about lifebloom. It did see a lot of changes too.
Imtellect 22:17 lol the irony
Why are some clips laggier than others?
Quoting DnD5e Mage Armor for a historical view? well... vanilla wow it would be more of dnd3e with +4 Armor class which was (at the beginning) equivalent with the chainmail, which was awesome.
Dude how the hell auto looting works in wow. I saw your comment on farming frogs that you understand. Can you please explain that to me ?
Something something the frost boss in Ulduar.
22:10 misspelled intellect as imtellect
Isn't Frost/Ice the same thing?
I remember acidentally using a rank 1 spell instead of rank 5 good ol time
I think Holy Paladins would give Fire Mages a run for their money on crit. TBC Survival Hunters as well (they give the whole raid AP boosts when they crit).

What's up with the music in this. it sounds like you have 2 different tracks playing. i thought my game sound was on while watching it.
I think possibly the only class who loves crits anywhere near as much as Fire Mage does is Havoc DH.
I disagree with your idea that spirit was a useless stat for casters and useful stat for healers. For one, spirit was useless for Shamans and Paladins until Cataclysm. Up until then, those classes needed to use MP/5. For another, you mentioned it yourself that mana was important to casters back then. No mana, no damage. If you had the ability to convert spirit into mana, then spirit became useful. Because if you didn't have mana, you were wanding or waiting to regen mana...through spirit. Now, it isn't necessarily the MOST useful stat, but it wasn't useless. Now if you look at Intellect, you talk about how useful Intellect is, because Intellect gives crit and spell power in addition to mana. Pre-Cataclysm, Intellect only gave Spell Power if you had a talent for it. And the critical strike chance you got from it was just over 1/4 what you would get from Critical Strike rating. --So a point of intellect would give an Arcane Mage 0.15 spell power and 0.006% crit. A point of Critical Strike rating would give 0.021% crit chance. --Put another way, it would take 100 Intellect to get the same SP and Critical Strike chance as getting 15 SP and 28 critical strike rating. If you look at those numbers, Intellect was a very inefficient way to get DPS increases from output. But it was great for DPS because it gave you mana. And more mana means more spell casts. Just like with spirit. This is also one reason why Warlocks were so powerful in PvP. They could convert health into mana, so they would just stack stamina and be nigh-unkillable tanks. Stamina was a DPS stat for them, in small part because of talents that would give them SP based on stamina, but in large part because Life Tap allowed them to stack stamina without hurting their mana pool.
I miss spell ranks... Rank 1 Arcane Explosion and Blizzard to pop out stealthed rogues/druids, R1 Frostbolt for slows, etc...

I don´t know.. why do classes even have mana if they can´t run out of it?
@Solon642
5 жыл бұрын
Many classes have healing spells that they can use even when in dps spec. The idea was that dpsing wouldn't drain your Mana bar, but when things got hairy, dps could use their healing spells, from offspec, to help keep everyone alive, but they couldn't do this forever since their Mana bars were small and drained after only a few heals. Of course, in practice, dps NEVER did this, since "wasting" GCDs on healing hurt their dps numbers. The only dps you'd ever see doing this were mainspec healers who knew how dicey healing could be in rough situations and wanted to help out their healers. Back in vanilla, this happened a lot more, since healers were not really designed to keep everyone at 100% health all the time. That was kind of their idea with the cataclysm changes to healer power levels: incentivize EVERY player in the raid to watch their own health bars and not stand in fire. Unfortunately, they were coming off of months and months of Wrath, where healers had NEVER been more powerful, and dps simply could ignore essentially every boss mechanic. Heck, I played a disc priest, and at the end of Wrath, disc priests could solo heal 10-man ICC. Then, Cata came, healers got absolutely gutted, but dps never recovered from the "shut up and heal me, scrub" mindset.

Thanks for explanation, i used to play a LOT on tbc wotlk. Now i switched to legion and this was something i didn´t quite understand. I was used to carry food /drinks with me to raids cause you had to recover before bosses, and it wasn´t worth wasting healers mana. Nowdays, unless you play arcane mage, it´s like impossible to run oom and even more for healers. It was interesting mechanic overall, healers needed to be more careful, and even in pvp, in order to kill like disco / holy pala, you just needed to make him oom or he would have healed forever :D Good old times, but i can see why they changed it... Once more, thanks for good explanation, i haven´t played anything inbetween wotlk and legion, so i was curious.
@Solon642

@@RealLeskot ha. That reminds me of the good old days when priests still had Mana Burn. My God, they removed Mana Burn and I swear the screaming from priests could be heard from outer space. I mean, I get it, Mana Burn was toxic as hell in arena: priest would spam it until the other healer was oom and then the battle was over. Even if it got locked, it was a shadow spell, so the priest just spammed healing until the lock was up and then back to Mana Burn spam. It was extra fun when both healers were priests, then it was a duel between which priest could burn the other one first. Like you said, good old times.

Fuck LK -> MoP mage armor. The shit was so OP and mages touted on how much it wasnt game breaking. Not only dot duration was reduced, but it also reduced magic CC by x%. Fear, clone, scream, frost shock, ice nova, coil, traps, even poisons and chains. Damn im still salty about it.

Dan agreed, wrapping ur body freezes your body and is a good way of cooling down, finns do this every winter. They sit in their saunas to heat up, then they jump into the ice cold water or the snow to cool down. Same thing should happen with frost/ice armor.

Unless the mage lowers his core temperature or changes the temperature he's acclimated to in order to wear ice armor. Just like how when I was a kid I had no problem in 25 degree (F) weather because I'm from a cold place but can't handle heat over 80.
