That’s always been my problem with Suge Knight. Death row could have been one of the most successful record labels in history, not just hip-hop but in all music. Suge I was so focused on trying to be a gangsta that he actually made that his first priority which ended up getting 2Pac killed and making Dr. Dre leave. I get that they had a hard image but there are ways to uphold that without putting your artist in danger like he did. Can you imagine what would’ve happened if Suge would have left all of the street stuff behind after they got to park out of prison and Dr. Dre would’ve stayed on and he let Dr. Dre continue to be the creative force? He still would’ve been under jimmy Ivene which means he still would’ve gotten a hold of Eminem’s demo tape . Man if all that could’ve happened and we would still have 2Pac alive and on the same label as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, Eminem, Game, 50 cent and Kendrick. Now sure there might’ve been some events slightly change but it’s not completely out of the question to say there’s a chance that all of those artist would’ve gone on and sign to death row. I was a huge Deathrow fan back in the day and it was so heartbreaking to see what was a dynasty of a label just fall apart in 12 months. Anyone that knew anything about the music and knew that Dr. Dre leaving wasn’t a good thing so I was bummed about that and then when 2pac got killed you knew it was pretty much over. The Makaveli album came out after he died and a couple really good 2Pac albums came out over the next three or four years and then we had Snoop’s Tha Dogg Father come out and despite everything that happened that album still managed to go double platinum but after he went on tour for that album that was it he laughed and death row was never that label ever again after that.

Just a remainder, Eminem was the 6th best selling artist globally in 2020 according to the IFPI. He the most watched rapper on youtube and he is still getting huge views in this platform in 2021 and also, he is getting approximately 400M streams every month on spotify. And, haters say Em fell off.

And for years had an actual recurring dream that Dr. Dre signed me, and I was the first classical artist to ever be on his label, and 50, Em, Snoop and I were label mates and friends, it was so cool 😂🤣it was truly something that could only happen in your wildest dreams😂that dream was the greatest.

Awesome video, I am a huge fan of Aftermath, no not every album on the label has gone on too legendary status but I think it’s fair to say that about 90% of them have. I think Aftermath is the most consistent hip-hop label in hip-hop history. It will probably never have the glory days it had in the first half of the 2000s where they’re putting out two legendary albums a year it felt like but the music that is released on this label is always great. If you look at the history of hip-hop labels they usually start out huge with 1 to3 acts that dominate the billboards with some other smaller racks that do reasonably well and then they fizzle out.

@关羽 They were all great in their time but can you honestly say any of them are the home of multi platinum artist 20 years later after their creation? Aftermath is the only label that still has artist on their label 20 years after it started that will still produce a platinum album. Hey I have bought albums from those other labels before that I still love today but the fact of the matter is that most hip-hop labels all follow the same formula whether it’s Bad Boy, Rap-a-lot, No Limit, Shady, Death Row, etc, when they first start out it’s because they have some hot ax usually the top in the business. The next 4 to 6 years they have a really good run and you have one or two artists that are the top artist of the day and then you have 2 to 4 other artists that will also sell about half as good as the top artist but as year six or seven rolls around the top artist stop going platinum and start going gold, and the smaller artist won’t even go gold anymore and then pretty soon even if they are still around today they’re not making noise like they used to. Kendrick Lamar‘s last album on aftermath went triple platinum and I’m pretty sure his next album on the aftermath will at least go platinum. And before anyone says Kendrick Is sign to TDE, you are right but he is also sign to aftermath.

Holy shit, I just realize that during the aftermath dynasty that only three West Coast albums were released from 1999 through 2005. 2001, documentary, and the wash soundtrack. Yes, Kendrick is a West Coast artist but when he signed Kendrick, the dynasty was over, so kind of had all the glory to himself there which is cool, but through most of that dynasty most of the projects were by artist from Detroit or New York .

Malibu by Anderson Paak wasn’t released under Aftermath but came out when he signed with Dr Dre. Also another little fun fact despite having his other two albums that came after being released under Aftermath Anderson Paak’s albums were not released under Interscope, which you could say Anderson Paak becomes the first artist under Aftermath to not have his album be released by Interscope.

Dr. Dre created Aftermath Entertainment in 96’, so it was perfect timing as he begin finding talent for his label. He felt Suge was corrupted and out of control by his ego. He doesn’t need Suge at all in his life. He hasn’t talked to him since leaving Death Row. He had signed Rakim, Hittman, Truth Hurts, Dawn Robinson, Bishop Lamont, Gage, Eve, The Game, 50 Cent, Joell Ortiz, Busta Rhymes, RBX, King T, Raekwon, Stat Quo, Marsha Ambrosius, The Last Emperor, Jon Connor, Slim The Monster, The Firm, Justus. The only artists are still signed to his label is Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Anderson.Paak, and Silk Sonic and that’s it. Well, his label has been very successful and Dr. Dre has done well for himself.

Eminem has stayed with Aftermath for the longest period of time outta all of the artists that Dr. Dre has signed. I feel signing him is the best thing that has ever happened to him. They are actually really good friends in real life. Dr. Dre helped Eminem with his music career when nobody else wanted to listen to him. Dr. Dre stepped right in to get Eminem’s music out there for everybody to hear. Some people like his music and some people don’t. At least, Dre has appeared on all of Eminem’s albums. Eminem has done 10 albums with Aftermath. That’s an accomplishment. Eminem has worked with Puff Daddy, 2Pac, Biggie, The Outlawz, Rihanna, T.I., 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Nate Dogg, The Game and many more.
