The Historical Stelae of Nahr el-Kalb (the Dog River) - Lebanon

One of the best known rivers in Lebanon is Nahr el-Kalb (Dog River). It is located between Beirut and Jounieh. The Romans called it the Lycus (Wolf) River. It runs for 31 km from a spring in Jeita near the Jeita Grotto (famous for their stalactites and stalagmites) to the Mediterranean Sea. Past Pharaohs, Kings, Generals and Conquerors have traditionally built monuments at its mouth, known as the Commemorative Stelae of Nahr
el-Kalb.
