If you played Star Wars Battlefront 1, if you select Yavin 4, on the loading screen when it zooms the planet's sky view, you can see the map of Sao Paulo.

Geonisis being in its own category is kinda funny because in 2017 battlefront 2, on the geonosis map, there’s a terminal with a map of part of the planet on it and it just straight up has the Great Lakes on it with no attempt to hide it

I think Polis Massa is a hidden map, but not of Earth. I'm fairly certain it is a map or picture of Ganymede wrapped around the asteroid's mesh. Edit: Yavin (the planet, not the moon) appears to be a map of Mars around the area of Valles Marineris.

I think Felucia might be a picture of mold, it'd fit the planet's theme. The "lakes" just being the blue mold from the picture.
nothing provides me more joy than realizing I wasn't schizophrenic for seeing India as an island in my Battlefront 2

Where?
In the case of Tatooine I think it's a satellite photo of the Libyan desert, I don't know what you mean by a lake because I can't see it in the texture, but the mountain in the north seem to me to be the mountainous area south west of the cities of Sawknah and Waddan in Libya, rotated 90º.

Fun fact about Geonosis, in the EA battlefront 2, you can find a map of the great lakes on a screen in the trippa hive map.
Polis Massa does have a hidden "map;" it's just a really scrunched picture of Ganymede, one of Jupiter's moons.
Galactic Conquest is neat to me because as a kid I had no idea what I was doing and didn't appreciate the added challenges and customization to gameplay. But a few years ago when I bought OG Battlefront II backwards compatible for the Xbox One, I got totally enthralled in it. I also didn't know that each faction had a neat cutscene when you won with them
Star Wars Battlefront 1 probably has some hidden maps as well. In the loading screen before each battle it zooms in on an area of the planet, and in the historical campaign you also get to see a rotating model of the planet before each battle.

Something very similar to this, a street map of Chicago was used in season 4 of Rebels for a birds-eye view of Lothal's capital.
As someone who played a lot of BF2 when younger, I never noticed this. Neat!
Mad respect to a fellow Bionicle fan.

This was a great video and very enjoyable. More obscure map findings and content like this please!
I was never a Bionicle kid growing up but I had a friend who was and those games were awesome.
This is intresting, I often played this game and never noticed😮😁 further I like watching planets spin around, it's calming.
Let's gooo, i too love Battlefront 2 and i grew up with the PSP version glad to see someone giving some love to this awesome game
This is just an incredibly neat video presentation, whoever worked on these planet visuals for the game would probably love to see such an attention to detail someone like you has here.
This is neat! I feel like I remember noticing SOME of these as a kid but never thought enough to look into it more. Neat stuff man!
Mad props to you!
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one! I didn't know this about the planets, and I've played this game way too many hours. Although some planets looked a little different to what I remember, maybe Im combining different looks from different games. Cool video!

I always noticed these! I thought it was awesome that they hid real map features on the planets.
Would love to see you puzzle over the first battlefront. It has much easier to see maps in the loading screens for the skirmish
Unrelated to this game, but in Jedi Outcast you can find Earth on one of the skyboxes. You can't see it in a legit playthrough because you're travelling in hyperspace, but if you're using a cheat code to clip through that, it's there.
The crossover I never knew I needed! 😍
Never would have know and I love this info! I crushed this game when I was younger! I played galactic conquest with my brother & I would play this for hours when I was younger just on my own I enjoyed it so much.
I love this video, great topic
Battlefront definitely isn't the only game to do this kind of thing. One of the main planets (I forget which one) in X3: Reunion (2005) has all of the coastline of India & SE Asia, which then blends into Mexico (starting at Baha California), Central America and the US Gulf coast; the Black Sea is also plopped into the middle of the continent. I've also seen similar things elsewhere too, like the (PAL?) Star Trek: Voyager DVD box set has Voyager orbiting a planet on the box, but the planet is just Earth flipped horizontally (you can clearly see the eastern Mediterranean). I think the DS9 and TNG box sets do the same sort of thing but not on the outer box.
Taking bits of the great lakes for that quick mock up made this Michigander happy :3
11:07 I think that might possibly be Wake Island. I’m not sure of it though, kinda hard to tell with the clouds blending in with the color of the coastline.

10:59 that looks like it could be a segment of the mid Atlantic Ridge
Me, who lives near the mouth of the Potomac river: Yay, I'm on Naboo? Meesa not sure how to feel about that.
6:48 - 6:51 "We won't go quietly, the Empire can count on that." - _Unknown soldier of the Alliance to Restore the Republic_ And at 7:50, I can see my house from that here!

lol true
I couldn't begin to speculate on where it is, but looking at Kamino it looks to me like it's based on real coastlines but with the land colored blue. The darker bits could be land, the lighter bits water, and the atolls being coastlines. Just the outline of the atoll reminds me of the coast of South America flipped upside down.
dude just went full geobolt on a game. great work!
8:32 In the ocean to the northern pole there is an Island looking a bit like Jan Mayen
The world map in all the Ace Combat games is just the map of Earth with all the bits rearranged in sneaky ways.
7:36 I SWEAR i've seen that tiny lake
you should do battlefront 1, it shows a much clearer zoomed in coastline map type thing on the loading screens
This guy is good at geography, no doubt
The first person I know who willingly advertises the fact that he played Bionicle Heroes
Im pretty sure Tatooine and Mygetto are just Pluto, Felucia is Venus and Geonosis is Mars with parts of Saturn's rings. Also the gas giant Endor orbits is just Neptune.
I know you would be as excited as .e to discover that in a space game I played while ago there's collage of real maps too. X3 Terran Conflict. Played that game very very long time ago. And decided to play it again like last year. I've noticed something I have never noticed before... some planets in the background have just real map places mixed up in a weird collage. Was real fun piecing it together though.
I think the craziest thing is that they didn't just use the maps for the filming locations... Or copy the textures from the movies... Actually I feel like they kind of did that...at least for some of them...I've definitely seen other star wars games use those same textures for planets...
Cool Star Wars video
I've played this game frequently since the day it was released in 2005. I never noticed this stuff before, and now I'll never look at this game the same way again.
Great vid
This video was actually bonkers.
Wait until you see the hidden maps in Battlefront 1
This reminds me of how they put Masterchief landing on Fort Meyers at the end of the first level in Halo CE and Basis was a white colored Mars. Since then every Halo game has had a fun geography hunt. The Yavin gas giant looks like a texture of Mars at poles and Polis Massa is Ganymede.
It would be pretty easy to do this if you freeze frame the BF1 loading maps where they zoom in on specific locations
great vid
You'd have a very fun time with the map of Strangereal, from the Ace Combat games.
Yavin IV being the middle east seems really funny to me, probably due to how George Lucas works...
On a similar note, a few planets in the third Ratchet & Clank game have Scandinavia on them for some reason.
Nice to see you played Bionicle games!
Battlefront 1 classic Naboo loading zoom also has a small area that looks like Italy and Greece.
Note about Kashyyyk. It actually *is* shown in the 501'st campaign, and it is just a map of Earth but a little greener.
I loved this video! Maybe try the same with the original Battlefront, with the loading images for each map.
You should extract the textures from BF1 and BF2 to do this easier
saw the thumbnail and actually laughed out loud gisnfjns
We had a similar game collection! I loved the Bionicle games esp Heroes and ofc Battefront 1/2. I was mostly a pc gamer as a kid and didn’t play many shooters besides Star Wars until much later
Holy shit how'd I miss this
A surprise to be sure but a welcome one.
There’s a way to zoom into the planets without your capital ship being there - could help you get a better picture

Dagobah kind of looks like it has Baikal lake in the north.
I think Im more shocked that there was an xbox version with extra planets in galatic conquest.
You should do another vid like this but with battlefront 1’s loading screens
10:49 you can find off of the west of Hawaii on google maps I think
Take a look at the maps of the loading screens for Battlefront 1 of the classic edition. They are more zoomed in and not planet size, but I think you would recognize a few of them.
I wonder how well professional Geo-locators would do with figuring out what land is from earth
Other media in Star Wars has used Mars for Tatooine and Dxun too; iirc in one of the movies Tatooine is just a colorgraded photo of Mars, and KOTOR2's depiction of Dxun is a heavily re-colored Mars
Civ rev was unironically goated
Ewok Casinos LETS GOOOOO!
You should do this with star trek too. One of the planets from star trek enterprise was literally just a blown up picture of the island of lesbos, and one from voyager had the island of borneo on it.
EmperorTigestar Please make a video on Hussite warriors. Nobody makes them yet. And I really want to look at the scale of these events.

10:57 - Am I going crazy or is that the Chilean coastline?
I used to play SW Battlefront 2 also, and I grew up with the SW both the original and prequel trilogy.
99% sure Mygeeto & Tatooine are tilted and zoomed pictures of Lake Eyre (Kati Thanda) & Lake Eyre South (I recognized the shapes as a South Australian). They're largely salt lakes, and may have changed shape slightly due to climate change and flooding since 2005. It would make sense they used a dry lake for two desert planets.
Mustafar might be a modified image of Jupiter. Note how that one formation that rotates into view from under the ship looks like the big ret spot.
8:49 I can't believe the Empire were gonna blow up the Persian Gulf.
