A very good friend recommended this book to me when I was giving a presentation on honey bees. There certainly must be a reason that some of us seek the woods (older the better) and find depth in the company of trees. I'm sad to say that I haven't read the book yet, though it is right here on my coffee table. Now, I will delve into this fascinating subject that can only enhance the time I will spend among trees new and old. So glad to see and hear Peter Wohlleben, reminds me a tad of the "Sonic Bloom" that so many have learned about, regarding the frequencies of birds, insects, plant harmonics and yes, trees. One could easily be lost in this understanding. Thumbs UP for this video!

It's very intriguing, I love what you said about it being a reason for us to seek trees. It's true. I had always been drawn to the woods, for me right now I have the intention of being more in nature as nature calls me to appreciate it more. I think nature is so underrated and underappreciated, not as a resource, but as an abundant network of knowledge. I feel that the more we know about nature, the more we can relate to it. I really love how Peter Wohleben makes it so relative to our own human experience as a specie that has some complexies, it also reminds me that we aren't the only living thing that is complex. The entire network of living eco-systems in all of life is uniquely exta-ordinary. I love learning about it.

Oh also, I just finished a novel, so now I had the chance to read it! I hope you find the time to read it while sitting under a tree and appreciating it releasing it while you admire the tree and it admires you.

Herr Wohlleben,I visited a stand of giant redwoods in Oregon, USA a few years ago. I spent about an hour there, just standing and listening. I felt 10 years or more of my age fall away from me. ( I felt less pain and more vigorous) This has never happened before that day, or since. I just wanted to share the experience with you.Sincerely, Johnny Coleman

Lovely. Magical. And not unusual among trees, esp. the ancients. I feel restored by them, to varying degrees, but without fail. If nothing else, my heart opens, and that's no small thing in our digital, high-tech, industrialized societies. Which has contributed to removing humans from the natural world, thus allowing us to foul our planet's life support system.

Yes, this is awesome. Having read The hidden Life of Trees by Peter when I borrowed it from the local library, when I was given a book token as a gift, I treated myself to The Illustrated Edition... Wow. Loads of really interesting sections from the original book, and the pictures are so beautiful... Especially useful if the weather or whatever prevents you from spending as much time with trees as you'd like to - even if you're not feeling like reading about trees the pictures will enhance your feelings of well-being and connection with nature. There is also a similar but different book by Diana Beresford-Kroeger, called To Speak for the Trees, which had already convinced me that trees are people too. But, overall, the best tree book by far I've ever seen is The Illustrated Edition Hidden Life of Trees. Treat yourself or a tree lover you love.

Shamans can speak to wildlife and tree's, before you make stupid comments maybe research more about the subject or meet someone who actually knows this to be true with experience, you think life is all just physical, wake up, pathetic sheeple.

I have just finished reading Peter's book. I myself prefer scientific writing but Peter is doing a fine job of telling non-scientists about the miracles of evolution called trees. I now understand better why I am so fascinated by trees and forests. Hope the message goes thru and we will begin treating our trees better.

Amazing isn't it. Anyone with a modicum of awareness wouldn't fall into the trap of dismissing something out of hand, just think of poor Lord Kelvin. This preeminent British scientist pronounced there's nothing new to discover in physics over 100 years ago. He also said planes and radios are impossible and was adamant Xrays were a hoax.

Warum nicht? Why not? To believe this new information to be impossible sounds like the nay-sayers, accomplished, educated and all, negating it was possible that the Earth was round not flat and circled around the Sun. Galileo Galilei risked his life discovering and writing about this...

I love the book he’s written but I don’t agree that eating a plant is the same as eating a sentient animal or he would be eating humans too. I guess he’s not a cannibal. I wouldn’t kill a tree for wood unless it was absolutely urgent and necessary. Trees provide shelter and food for animals and humans. Old technology suggests we couldn’t live without trees. New technology suggests we can. Eating green leaves and fruit from an organic plant or tree doesn’t kill the tree and is full of electrons minerals enzymes and nutrients.

  • @margapopful

intensive farms are a cause of deforestation. Comparing the pain of an animal to a plant is pure madness. If you detach a leaf, the tree does not die, it only senses that something in its system doesn't work. If you take a paw off a pig, it suffers as much as a man. Animal's holocaust must end. Watch the film Cowspiracy. Furthermore, bringing the animals back to their natural number, not the quantity of animals that exist for food, guarantees a balance of hilly terrain, atmospheric gases and many other benefits. National geographic said that we have 12 years to reduce gas emissions and eat meat is a principle problem, stop eating it. Go vegan, now! #vegan #enviroment
