In 1964 my parents took my brother and I from one end of Rt66 to the other end of Rt66. We camped all the way in tents. It was August in a station wagon with no air conditioning. At the time I didn't appreciate the trip.. but now as an elderly man I appreciate it. I remember the heat and all the diners. My father made my brother and I empty our pockets at the Petrified Forest to confirm we did not take samples. We didn't.

Mine drug us kids from coast to coast and back again in 1956. I was a reliably car sick kid stuck in the back seat with a pinching, slapping, ambushing older sister. My parents must have been nuts. Yet another example of the lengths my father would go to in an effort to please my thankless brute of a mother. Fun times.

The Smith Mansion is a testament to one man's industry n vision coming to fruition for his family during the era I grew up in. It is a WONDERFUL 👍 house that should STILL be in the Smith Family!!!

This Miami Water Stadium with the power boat races reminds me of the Detroit River Power Boat 🚢 Races my Dad went to n took us to many times in the 1960's n 1970's that were an iconic happening throughout that era. We still have slides of these Detroit River Speed Boat Races in our family club collection!!

The Dolores Water Park was a FIRST in its time, which was also my era of growing up, when MANY "firsts" were being developed and it is TOTALLY AWESOME DELUXE that someone is repurposing it, restoring it to a futurized venue yet keeping the homage to Make Dolores n the man that made it for ALL to enjoy!!!

I remember passing this place on our way to Las Vegas, and So. Utah, back in the 1960's and '70's. It must have been a nice place to cool off on a hot summer day. I was sorry to see it fall into the current state after all the upgrades had been done.

I read all there is about Route 66 and have driven it many times. I've never heard or read anything about this location, or what it was for. You never read anything about it in the many 'gee, Route 66 was fun' books or videos. They tend to overlook reality, which might distract the business they're trying to drum up. Even here the comments mostly choose to ignore this place and talk about the drive as some sort of adventure. Lots of black folks moved west on Route 66 yet their story is totally ignored. Thanks for pointing this historic place out. Maybe someone will actually incorporate it into a book or video about Route 66. Or, if any info is out there that I missed, maybe refer people to it.

18:02 this man reminds me of my son. He goes around my land building structures out of the wood around my land. Then he goes around the town near me trying to find discarded wood or metal that the construction people threw away and put it on the buildings he built. My chicken house is built with the only cost was the screws he put in. Later he would be able to unscrew the screws to take it down if needed to so he can later reuse the wood for other projects.

Saw the Smith house in June of '99. We asked "locals" in Cody, WY about it. They all said the same thing, that "the builder, named Smith fell to his death in '92 & nothing had been done to the house since. He was known as the local loner- crackpot.

Nobody in Miami has forgotten the water sports arena. It lies rotting away much to the dismay of the local citizenry. Nobody can figure out what to do with it either. Also 41:31 Miami avoid a direct hit??? Excuse me? Sir we got pummeled! I'm an Andrew survivor. Lost my house, Andrew was a giant reset button for my family, and many families down here. It was our Hurricane Katrina.

I don't understand it either. I was raised in the military overseas and we were all just Americans. Just human. We helped and looked out for each other. If I don't like a person it is because of what was inside them not outside. I really didn't learn about racism until I came back to the states as an adult.

This an edited and essentially stolen History Channel product. The narrator is a dead giveaway. It's hard to say it's stolen because it's just sloppily assembled trash. HC doesn't do thier homework but it doesn't mean they deserve to have it stolen.
