My father and mother would bring us kids in the 1960s when I was around 5 years old. We would always have a wonderful time. There were many Black people enjoying our world...peaceful without feeling different from anyone else. The last time I visited City Beach was the last year (1982) before it closed in preparation for it's new name East Beach; it was barren on that day.

I'm from Norfolk myself I was born in 77 but I remember City Beach and it was so fun. My grandmother has been in the same house since 1947. Her and my grandfather moved there when she was 21. 13 kids about fifty grandchildren. 35 great grands idk how many 2XGreat and 3Xgreat but you get it. She's still there 96 years old. I always wanted find out if her house could be like a historical landmark. And our family. My grandfather had a church right there I'm pretty sure if you're from Norfolk do you know my family. But if anybody can reach out so I can do a documentary on my grandmother 96 years old campostella Virginia imagine how much she has seen I just don't have the machine behind me right now but I always wanted to do it

Hampton had a black beach called Bayshore. When I was a little kid I remember walking down the beach with my great grandmother who lived on Seaboard Avenue in Buckroe and we got to a big wooden breakwater and I was going to climb across and she said: "You can't go over there." I said "why?" and she said "that beach is for colored people and you are white."
