One of the most impressive conservatories I have seen in the U.S. is at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA on the grounds of an estate owned by Pierre S. DuPont. It is located just north of Wilmington, DE and southwest of Philadelphia. The gardens are fabulous and have beautiful fountains, but there is also an indoor conservatory which is huge. The DuPont home is also open to the public as a museum though it is comparatively modest. The nearby estate of Winterthur also owned by the DuPont family is more impressive and has a very important collection of antique furniture and decorative arts.
