Thankfully I am one of the lucky ones! Almost 4 years since I took my soul, mind and body back from the devil named Heroin... So very sorry for your loss 😢 I was born addicted to methadone and both my parents were heroin addicts so I have struggled with addiction all my life! It's terrible and some people have no idea how serious this disease is! Thank you for sharing your story! His death is terrible but it won't be for nothing bc if you save even one person then he would be proud of you for sharing his struggle and your families story! 😢😢😢😢

This comment section should be ashamed of itself. Y'all wanna castigate a white family for being devastated over their loss, while simultaneously bemoaning your own losses. Pathetic and hypocritical. We're all people, and it's incredibly sad when any of us are lost to something as frivolous as drugs... Especially if we're young and feeling invincible. Black or white doesn't matter - this family is just representative of the devastation felt across our country when we lose someone precious to such a preventable catastrophe.

A parent should NEVER have to bury their child...regardless of your colour. Not from Drugs. Not from street crime. Not from gun violence. Not from being shot or strangled by a bad cop , or a vigilante. Not from being incarcerated for Cannabis possession or some other minor charge. It's tragic enough when a child succumbs to a fatal illness, but when they are lost to societal ills that should be fixable, it is just such a waste. You never recover from the loss of a child - it's like a chronic illness - at best you just learn to manage life with it, but it's always right there. I lost my Nephew to a fentanyl overdose in 2015. As a child he was almost a blond version of this young man. Heartbreaking waste !

The best way to fight heroin addiction is to take the initiative to do our best no matter the cost in anyway possible . There are people who will say, that will only make a small dent in this problem . But a small dent here and a small dent there is better than waiting, to help people after they are addicted . Where ever we find a route for heroin to enter our country make a barrier yes a solid wall and if its a waterway gate it off 6ft below and above. Some may think this is absurd , but is the many people, adults ,teens, newborns, toddlers All these are suffering all because politicians dont want other countries saying we are inhumane , for putting up walls that keep people out. But isnt it inhumane to let heroin freely pour in and destroy lives . There are those who will say no one forces anyone to do heroin . Or they will say theres enough information on how bad heroin is. and everyone knows heroin destroys lives so if they are stupid enough to take it its on them. WRONG the unborn doesn't know and grieving families who have to watch a life filled with so much promise , die at 14 - 15 on up ,what about the child who cant get mommy or daddy to wake up. please make some noise for these ones.

People who overdose on heroin, committed suicide. Its not accidental. They knew the consequences of the dangers of the drug, unless their family never told them when they were younger, not to use drugs to begin with. Sorry to say, but its the truth.

Yes, these parents are friends always say the same thing, such a good, talented and smart kid. Picture perfect, but to stupid to stay away from drugs. These parents often have their heads in the clouds, because they want to believe that their kids could never do such a thing, heroin is inner city problem (and who lives in the inner city, your so called minorities). I don't blame them but it's this kind of attitudes that is contributing to their kids deaths.

Tracey Hamilton my son passed from an overdose 7/4/18 and I can tell you that I did not have my “head in the clouds” and who are you to judge. My son was In The gifted program, an Eagle Scout, lifeguard and an all around good kid who was loved and had plenty of friends. I was also a stay at home parent in a two family religious based household. He went to college (away)and someone gave him Xanax. So tell me, how am I supposed to know that? By the time he came home from school he was addicted to Xanax and a short jump to heroin and death through fentanyl. These drugs are so powerful sometimes kids make one mistake and the drug takes over their mind. Try getting someone addicted to heroin to stop. It’s incredibly difficult and almost virtually impossible. Don’t judge until you have dealt with this monster yourself. Then you would see why the parents affected are SCREAMING AT THE TOP Of THEIR LUNGS To try and warn parents that some kids are using prescription drugs leading them to street drugs.

How about some sympathy for the families who are harmed by these junkies who CHOOSE to abuse drugs? The people who befriend them who are lied to, stolen from and sacrifice time and money to help them, only to have them relapse within days of leaving rehab?
